We have never hired a handy man to do these types of furniture since I actually quite enjoy doing it. Because it was just him, I thought maybe he'd take 2-3 hours if he as super fast but he did the whole thing in under 1 hour!!! I couldn't believe when he told me it was done! He visited my mother's home (she's in her 70s) and verbally threw out a few numbers, but never provided a proper written quote outlining full scope and total cost. Without our approval, he went ahead and purchased tile and then attempted to charge us for it, saying he wouldn't proceed with the job unless we paid--despite there being no agreed-upon quote. When I asked for a detailed quote, what I received was incomplete and filled with exclusions ("this does not include X, X will be extra"), making it impossible to understand the true cost of the project. When I followed up and asked for a clear, all-inclusive quote so we could properly evaluate the work and protect my mother from unexpected costs, he insisted that what he sent was sufficient--which it absolutely was not. When I pressed for clarity, he became dismissive, said this was "too much work," refused to provide proper documentation, and hung up on me. In my opinion, this was highly unprofessional and concerning behavior. A reputable contractor should be transparent, provide a clear scope of work, and respect clients--especially seniors who may be more vulnerable to unclear pricing. I would not feel comfortable recommending this contractor to anyone.

Legacy House Renovations is different. When I contacted them by phone, the person who answered was quick to ask very pertinent questions regarding my job and suggested that he drop by that evening, after he was done at another job. When he arrived we discussed what I wanted done. Basically I wanted to finish off an area under my bedroom which was originally supposed to be another room. I decided to keep the area open to use as a sort of covered patio instead, and so I just needed someone to install insulation & soffits on the ceiling as well as siding on two walls. I also wanted to close in what originally were to be closets and turn them into garden/tool storage sheds. Rafael took notes as we talked and made some suggestions of his own. The next day I received a detailed estimate via email. After agreeing on the scope of work we made an appointment for the following week. Rafael showed up on time each day and finished the job on time and budget. He even did some extra work without charge, such as reinforcing a support beam that a previous contractor put in. It didn't take very long to do it but it showed me that he has pride in his work and wants the job done right even if he didn't initially start it. My wife and I are very happy with the work that was done on our house and we know who we will call the next time we need work done, big or small.
