I just have to give a shout out to the nicest patrol officer I ever met; and I'm not just saying…read morethis because he let me go with a warning. Officer J.M. Diaz pulled me over for doing 94 mph in a 75 zone. I was 1 mph away from felony speeding. I confess, I already had three moving violations on my record -- over the past three years -- I drive a Porsche and take cross country trips and sometimes I like to test the car. The fastest I've driven? 126 on the road to the Monterey Jazz festival. But I digress. On this fateful day, December 6, to be exact, I saw Officer Diaz in the median just as I was decelerating from passing someone, and I could see I was over 90 mph. I watched in my rearview mirror and saw that, yes, he was pulling onto the road. There were a bunch of trucks blocking his access to the road, and I prayed that I could make it to the turn off and get off the road and hide in a gas station. That prayer went unanswered. Officer Diaz came to the passenger side door and asked, "Do you know the speed limit?" I gushed that I knew I hit 91 or 92, but it was only for about 10 seconds (a Porsche can take you from 85 to 100 in about 3 seconds, and back down again in 3 seconds more), and would he consider giving me a break. Well, you already know the end to this story. But Officer Diaz was pleasant (usually when I get pulled over the officers are mad, like I said something bad about their mother). He explained to me why the laws are the way they are, and why doing 90+ is a danger to self and others. Officer Diaz should be Captain or whatever. He should be training others. He should be in charge of everything.

There was live music, the architect spoke explaining the light and architecture at work for the special hour (12-1). It was beautiful and fascinating to witness. There was also a demonstration of the Washington Printing Press in the Rare Book Room with a special print that day created by library staff. There was also a limited tshirt that day at the Friends Bookstore with a print from the printing press designed by library staff. Every day here is a special day, but today was an extra special day. Staff is always ready to help, is friendly, and is very knowledgeable - whether it's Adult Services Staff, Youth Services Staff, Circulation Staff, or Municipal Security; everyone is here to help make your experience incredible. There's a first floor with an art gallery, the children's area, the adult fiction area, the checkout area, the accounts desk, the security desk, and the auditorium. The second floor has the computer, printing, faxing, copying, and scanning area, the business area, the arizona room, workforce area, and college depot. I loved the informative display cases on the second floor which held information on filming western movies in Arizona, about Burton Barr - their namesake, and about the architecture of the building. This was a very nice, informative touch. The third floor is administration and is not open to the public. This is where the magic of Phoenix Public Library is planned. This is where the PPL team orders and processes PPL materials, where staff plans programs, marketing, and more! The fourth floor is the teen room, the makerspace, and where the youth services staff plans programs. The fifth floor is the largest reading room in the nation, yes, larger than NYC Central Public Library's reading room! It's an impressive floor and my favorite with those beautiful North, and South views of Phoenix. This floor holds the adult non-fiction collection, and reference collection. Each floor has restrooms, look for signs. Can't find it? Ask the friendly staff at any service desk. Enjoy your visit at an architectural gem, a Phoenix Point of Pride, and at one of the best library's in the nation.

I'm not familiar with the area but in getting in after the security check/metal detectors, you simply go left where all the other people are sitting (like they were waiting for their flights to depart) because it looks exactly like an airport. Once you enter the room, you'll have to sign in on their portable computer thingy, ah kiosk is what I was looking for, with your Jury ID # and last name. There will be people/workers to help you in the process. The rest is just the waiting game. I was here 15 mins before 9am and then didn't announce anything till 30mins after. You will be shown a video of what to expect and where everything is (cafe, restroom) which I totally forgot where those two are. And then one of them will call you by a number 1-60 and by your last name and first initial of first name, then you will head to the back of the room where an assistant will hand you a paper with your number and QR code which you'll scan to fill out the questionaire. If you don't have a tablet they will provide you one. If you don't remember the number, like I totally did, then say your last name because it should match with it. Then you wait some more. Was told that by 1:30pm that they will decide whether some of us go to the courtroom while the other goes home, based on what you said on the questionaire. There are no wrong or right answers but def they were some questions repeated a couple times just worded differently The people here are super nice and helpful and if you're like me with anxiety of going to unfamiliar places, don't be afraid to ask :) Why 4 stars? Because I don't want to be here. Lol but the place is clean and spacious. Uber was $64 plus tip all the way from QC to Downtown Phx. And in going back- Uber was $70. Love it. Sarcastically speaking. Hope yours will be a good case if you were one of the chosen 10 I got to go home.. waited 5 hours for my name to not be called

Heritage Square is home to some preserved 19th and 20th century homes, museums and restaurants. There is a large garage nearby for parking and ASU has a small campus next door. The Arizona Science Center is the building that stands out the most here at Historic Heritage Square. I have gone to it a couple of times and have enjoyed my time there. Arizona's most iconic restaurant Pizzeria Bianco by James Beard Award-winner Chris Bianco is also here. It can be a very long wait to get a table and has been visited by many celebrates like Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Fallon over the years. I will review both at the same time along with the surrounding area. First, U.S. Post Office itself also known as the "Federal Building-U.S. Post Office" was built in the 1930s and was intentionally designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. I find all of the staff who have helped me at the post office portion of the building on the first floor have been very friendly and helpful though there is often a queue during the day. The line usually goes fast, and the post office area is kept rather clean. When Arizona State University opened the Downtown Phoenix Campus in 2006, ASU took over the upper floor, basement level, and part of the first floor. ASU has the Student Center @ the Post Office on the first floor and then additional offices and conference rooms on all three levels. I have spent a lot of time on the upper floor where the Dean of Students office is as well as offices for Counseling Services, Student Connection & Community, Student Accessibility & Inclusive Learning Services, TRIO programs, ASU Police, Human Resources, and Career Services. On the first floor is the Student Center @ the Post Office (including the Undergraduate Student Government offices for and Changemaker Central) along with Facilities Management. On the basement is a space for ASU clubs and organizations, the Program & Activities Board offices, classrooms, and additional ASU academic services and offices. While the building is open from 8 AM to 9 PM on weekdays when classes are in session and 8 AM to 5 PM during breaks including the Summer. ASU offices are closed during weekends and university holidays. The only negative to the U.S. Post Office building is the challenge with security as there seem to have been a number of situations nearby right outside the north side of the building or even in the Civic Space Park on the south side of the building. Otherwise, the safety within the building is just fine, and the students, faculty, and staff at ASU still frequent the building. With a long history already between the post office itself and now ASU being there, I look forward to seeing what comes up next in the historic building!

I've done jury duty in San Diego and now in Phoenix. This is the first time I had to report in as opposed to my group number not having to show up and being excused. The worst part for me is driving downtown but my hubby drove me so that was good. On the jury summons they show you where to park and they validate the parking so it is free for you. The jury room where you wait is actually a good size room with somewhat comfortable chairs. Tip - there is a row of chairs on the side of the room that have the outlets for plugging in your electronics. There are other places available to plug in, but these are convenient. Only bad thing is those seats get claimed fast so show up early! The court system really tries to make the experience very favorable and not too much of a hardship. There is a kitchen area where coffee is made and you can make tea. There are vending machines for water and soft drinks plus a fountain you can get purified water from free of cost (no charge for coffee or tea either). There's a microwave and a fridge if you need to heat up something for lunch if you are there. Bathrooms are located in the jury lounge too. You have the freedom to get up and go outside while you are waiting as long as it is limited to 15 minutes and you sign out and then cross your name off when you get back in. All in all not a bad experience! There were only 2 cases the day I had to appear and both cases were settled without going to trial so we were all excused by about 10:15 a.m. They say I won't be called for at least 18 months before having to report again for jury duty, but I wouldn't mind if it was sooner. Staff is very friendly and helpful! Nice touch to have the judge come in and thank us for our service and explain the process to us.
