I love this small coffee shop for their fresh coffee. I buy their coffee beans whenever I'm nearby to enjoy at home every morning. My favorite is Sumatra, I'm a dark coffee lover. The parking is pretty bad around Snohomish downtown and it's not just weekend or dinner time, it's really hard to find parking all times. I wish the city creates public parking spaces in walking distance. The mocha I got this morning was a little too sweet and caramely. Still temperature hot and strong coffee that I like. read more

The food options were decent and the coffee was also ok but didn't drink it all. Service was nice. Walked in at 4:56 to order coffee and thought they closed at 6. Waited a few minutes in line. Once we walked up the cashier asked Al, "is the espresso machine washed yet since we close in one minute". The cashier was rude with the tone so I decided against purchasing the coffee. Seemed like an employee who would make the coffee bad just because they have to make coffee at the end of their shift(even though the man outside was still working on their door). I enjoy checking out indie cafes. Proper Joe Coffeehouse was a pleasant find after wandering along First Avenue in historic downtown Snohomish (4/5/25). Nice interior, interesting variety of merch including coffee roasts to peruse, decent assortment of baked goods, various seating arrangements and definitely from the postings, periodicals, and warm service onsite - you get to experience a strong community vibe. super cute & small place ! very much so a local spot: but a MUST stop by ! the baristas are very kind, the atmosphere is very cozy with lots of window seating with books & recliners & chairs. vary cost efficient - not overly priced - even when wanting to substitute milks or add ons into your drink. they have a small pastry case as well with fresh treats, various basic drink options, & even sell things like handmade earrings & other trinkets, along with tea brews & chocolate espressos beans ! for added condiments, they also had a small station to add chocolate, sugar, cinnamon, which i found was a cute personal touch ! i totally recommend the vanilla latte with oatmilk, & making it sweet ! it was SO good i was talking about it for days haha ! read more

Love this coffeehouse. They make true espresso drinks! I had an espresso macchiato and a blueberry scone. Both were perfect. There were so many dogs that came through the shop too I was in heaven haha! You can tell they are very involved in the community; many regulars came by to say hi and the barista (I'm guessing owner as well) sent someone off to donate muffins to a nearby shop. Popped in for a handcrafted latte prior to strolling the charming shops of First Street. I was greeted warmly and my hazelnut irish cream latte was just the perfect cup of joe I was looking for, complete with beautiful froth design on the top. This cute little unassuming store is quite small on the outside but definitely worth a stop over. There's only one barista to take all orders and make the drinks so be patient. The person that helped was super friendly and didn't crack under pressure even though a line was building and drink orders were piling up. During our wait there's a lot of cool little things to look at and you have a feeling of complete..it will get done when it gets done attitude. They have a glass case of baked goods but the real star of this place are the drinks! The iced coffee and the iced teas are absolutely flavorful and delicious. They are not watered down and put big box coffee shops to shame. There's no comparison between the care and uniqueness of a small local business to a huge conglomerate. The baristas will be the demise of this place. From the other current Yelp reviews written within the past 6 months, I'm clearly not the only one who feels this way. Our incident is too long and convoluted to describe here, but suffice it to say the attitude from the baristas ranged from irritated indifference to legit hostility. Where is the owner? They would be well-advised to invest in a new team of employees, or at the very least, some training on how to interface with the public. When I described our scenario to a few friends, they each had their own stories, and had already been avoiding this place precisely based on the bizarre, tense interactions they had there with the staff. read more

We have made our own espresso at home for decades using a manual machine & grinder and buying our beans from one source to keep consistency thus finding any shop that can make a basic cappuccino that resembles Italy has been impossible until recently. Walking into Proper Joe Coffeehouse and taking a looksie at the menu and baked goods display, we knew that we'd found another gem! My wife ordered one of her favorites - a White Mocha (she loves her white chocolate) - and I had a Black Currant Tea. She loved her drink, saying that it was the perfect blend of coffee and sweetness -- not overly sweet like some places make it. My tea was super delicious, but I would've liked to have had more leaves in it . . . but that's just me, I love my tea super strong (some might even say, overly strong). We also order a Coffee Cake Muffin that was out of this world. Like we agreed with the owner, there is a distinct lack of coffee cake in coffee houses...but not here. It's a staple at Proper Joe. And that's one of the things that makes this place so great! Their other baked goods looked amazing too --- fritters, cakes, cinnamon rolls, scones, etc. Next time we're there (and there will certainly be a next time), I'm going for one of their scones. I frequent Snohomish for work and drive by Proper Joe all the time. I finally had a moment to check it out! Parking is typical downtown Snohomish. Sometimes alright, sometimes not alright. Depending on the day, season, weather, many contributing factors :) The exterior is a really lovely brick with a welcoming sign. I wasn't sure what to expect as I entered.. The interior was honestly smaller than I had imagined, HOWEVER, don't let that mean anything because it is so cozy and comforting! The vibes are definitely right! As I mentioned, seating is minimal but it felt like you were walking into someone's home, where everyone knew each other and were just happy to converse and enjoy company. I ordered a regular latte and mmmm was it delicious. Hot, velvety, nice espresso taste. Overall I am really happy to have stopped in and definitely will again the next time I have the opportunity! read more

Very unfortunate that I am forced to write this today. Im a big fan and supporter of all Snohomish businesses and never write bad reviews, but this was bad enough to have to share. I work across the street from this coffee shop and my family and I have been coming here for years since it first opened. Their coffee is great and it's one of the only places to sit down for coffee in the area. I am unfortunately forced to write a bad review for them today given a situation with their owner/manager who kicked me out of the shop for needing to hold a zoom meeting in their coffee shop. I was already running late to a meeting while I'm between running around between home and my other business here in snohomish. I always grab my coffee before I sit ideally, as I typically have a few minutes, but since I was already running late to a meeting today, I couldn't order my coffee right away and absolutely planned to as soon as I was off. There were a lot of people in there before I even sat down for the meeting and it was loud, so didn't even have a chance to communicate with the dude that I needed a min before I could order. Before I could grab my wallet after my meeting, I was told I needed to wrap it up and this wasn't a place for sitting to hold meetings. I let him know I was about to grab my coffee, and instead of letting me do so, he forced me to grab my stuff and leave the shop. It wasn't the fact that he asked me to order a coffee (I also would have probably done the same in a much kinder way) but I won't support somewhere that kicks out paying customers needing a quick cozy spot to get a meeting done. I understand not wanting people to hog up your space; but I wasn't even allowed a moment to explain or buy the coffee. So, I would head up the street to the other coffee place (good coffee as well; much friendlier). Worth avoiding a miserable interaction for your day! read more
