I am so happy that I was referred to this place. I am brand new to being a plant mom, and have purchased two of my plants at two other very popular nursery's... and let me just say that Propagate was BY FAR the best experience I had. I'm sad to say, I don't remember her name... but this woman educated me on care, soil texture, growth, why they grow a certain way, light, etc. DID SO FLAWLESSLY. She had kept it so real with me, as to why I shouldn't purchase certain plants due to my apartment, and gave me the sad news that the plants I had were in fact NOT lowlight plants... which the other nurseries told me they were.... rather than make me feel like I and the Swiss cheese and monstera were doomed, she gave me the best advice on how I can keep it alive and happy. This woman spent so much time with me to educate me... if it weren't for closing time, I can almost guarantee she would sit there and continue to comfort and answer all of my questions and concerns. I ended up purchasing a ZZ plant as recommended for my little home with lowlight. And she's beautiful. I love you guys and will be back on Saturday for the event that this woman encouraged me to come to! read more

This is truly a plant parent paradise!! Stopped in while I was in town for business and despite not buying anything- all of my suitcases were full- the staff still gave me pointers on my monstera plant. They have a large variety of plants as well as cute pots. I'd definitely go back!! read more

Workers are super nice and aware of distancing and PROPER (AKA OVER THE NOSE Y'ALL) mask wearing! There were a ton of plants along their exterior shop window, a few racks for hanging plants outside as well. The inside of the shop was super cute! Plants lined the entire store and was actually quite stuffed but the store itself was spacious so it didn't feel too cramped. In comparison to other shops though, it was definitely overpriced ... Good thing is I saw an entire rack of 2" hemionitis artifolias (heart ferns), which are hard to come by in the Bay Area!! I didn't snatch one, and I didn't look closely for infestations, but it seems like a nice place to find rare finds. TLDR: I'd pop back in for another visit when in the area! read more

I love to support new business, so I had to pop in here after seeing them on Instagram and hearing some okay reviews from friends. I am a long time houseplant owner and I am always looking for something to add to add to the collection. Am I the only one who thinks it is very difficult to find a good selection of pots? I am even willing to pay a bit more for a nice pot, but boy is it hard to find them. Propagate does not remedy that shortage, they have small pots and larger pots but not a large selection of medium. The prices weren't too bad, maybe a tad bit high, but not as high as some other "boutique" type stores. Nobody talked to me, not even a hello, but they seemed friendly overall and I didn't take it personally. I overheard some weird advice about plants, not that I am an expert, it just didn't sound right. The plant selection, which I am not in the market for, did look better than your average store. It almost made me give it a 4th star, but overall it's just okay. I guess I will have to continue my hunt for my go-to plant store. read more

I came to get a drainage hole cut into one of my pots and left with great advice for my air plant, a simple yet stylish pot for my new cactus, a super cute pot and easy to take care of plant for my homegirl's birthday, and a sleek mister to keep all my plant babies good and hydrated. All this is to say that Propagate is not just a place to buy plants. They also have a great selection of pots, accessories, palo santo, sage, cards, a whole lot of plant knowledge and, for the very low price of $2, they will cut drainage holes in any pots you have that need it. This shop is super cute. Lots of trendy indoor plants. However, the sales person is unfriendly and slightly dismissive... I'm sad to say this because it made me not want to return. She didn't greet us and was on her phone most of the time. Four stars, because I don't want the sales person to reflect on the overall quality of the business. Side note, none of the plants have the names on them so I had to keep picking them up and asking, I felt like I was annoying her. Propagate is easily my favorite store EVER. The store itself is small and quaint; the perfect setting for that IG worthy pic! They have a great variety of plants, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and I love how they collaborate/host other local small businesses in Sacramento. My only draw back is that the items in this store are pricey, but understandably so. I wish they would do more give aways, promotions, or sales through social media to engage with their followers better or start a seminar series on how to take care of the many different plants they sell (just a thought!). I was looking for a specific non toxic plant for cats and while they didn't have that particular one in stock right now, Cole was SO knowledgable about everything plants related and took the time to go over other pet friendly options as well as ones that aren't--I learned a lot! Aside from the friendly, knowledgable, and patient staff, the building itself is a work of art. I am a new plant mama and I was in need of adjusting my plant's soil and didn't want to buy a giant bag from my local hardware store and decided to go here (& also looking for maybe adding some more babies to my family). When I walked in, I was immediately greeted. I walked around and was happy to find a self-serve soil bar! Exactly what I needed! I later asked an employee some questions and they were so knowledgeable and even asked me for a picture of my plant to give me more detailed advice. Pretty cool shop if you're looking for common house plants. Good selection of planters and supplies, at times. Giving it two stars for the poor customer service. There is a guy who is pretty polite and helpful but the girls are either uninterested in providing good service or seem too good to be bothered. Even when checking out, had a pretty awkward and uncomfortable check out process with Georgia. Didn't feel welcomed by her and felt like she was rushing us out by her saying "you're done with me" and questioned my partner when he mentioned something to me about the planter I was purchasing. First of all, I want to say that their product is great. It's clearly well taken care of and the staff clearly knows their stuff. I'm sure I'd take home a good plant with excellent knowledge despite the steep prices. However, my review is based mostly on customer service. I've been there twice on two separate days (which weren't too busy, I may add). Each time I spent over 5 minutes. And each time not once did any of the staff greet me, even when I was walking around the store no one asked the questions typical of customer service. For the prices they have, I would prefer at least a hello. Because their plants are absolutely gorgeous, just not the service. read more

I saw multiple dying plants for $200-$400. If I wanted to nurse a plant back to health I could go to Walmart or a cheaper nursery. Okay customer service. No one greeted me or asked if I needed help. I had to keep bugging the staff for assistance. Plants are over priced. I would suggest looking at different nurseries around the area before coming here. I bought a fiddle leaf here and didn't noticed a black leaf until I got home. Didn't think too much about it until it started spreading immediately to the other leaves. My guess was root rot. Mind you I had not watered it since I got it and it had been 2 weeks already. The lady at the shop told me to water it in a few days-glad I didn't. Anyhow, I disinfected the roots and repotted it. Within days the black spots turned a light brown color. No more black spots and soggy soil. Hopefully I resolved the issue. Felt like I couldn't get help from these guys anyways. I will say the shop is cute but can be crowded. Will probably not be back nor recommend this place. read more

During this pandemic I have become a plant store frequenter, Propagate being one of them. They have a great selection and the store front is welcoming, however I can't say the same about the people who work there. Each time I have visited I haven't been greeted or let alone acknowledged. I genuinely feel like I am irritating the staff just by being there. As someone who plans on spending quite a lot of money on plants I would expect to be engaged and my business to be appreciated. The few times I have interacted with the staff they are rude, and condescending. Super let down, thankfully I don't need much help when plant shopping and have returned JUST for their selection of plants. read more

Went here for the first time because several friends told me I should go (im kinda crazy about plants). My 3 yr old and I went. Georgia gave us the sweetest, most warm experience. She played a game with my son and let him pick out a plant to take home. She answered all of our questions. My little boy hit it on the head by saying,"this is the best day ever!" Very homey, warm, and welcoming shop filled with plants fitting for homes of all sizes. Staff was friendly and always checking in on us, answering our questions and helping us choose the best monstera for our price point. They also have many esthetic pots to go with the plants. I went to buy a houseplant as a gift. Chris was so nice and helpful. He recommended the perfect plant and pot, told me that the plant needs to be watered from the bottom, so he drilled a hole in the pot, replanted the plant, and carried it to the car. The whole visit was super fun. I even called him when I got home to ask when the plant had last been watered so we would not over-water it before gifting it. I highly recommend this place. read more
