I bought my wedding dress here.Initally they were lovely and I picked a dress which was way over my budget.I paid the deposit and came for a fitting.They informed me that the dress was a one off and as the display one couldn`t be purchased,I had to have one especially ordered.No problem.....I was then told that the dress wouldn`t be there until the week before my wedding but I wasn`t to worry as that was plenty of time to get it altered (by them).Sure enough the week before,I recieved a call to say that the dress had arrived and could I come down to see if it needed altered.They already knew it would as they had concluded that it would need some of the length removed.Went down very excited only to be told that there was a mistake and it wasn`t actually my dress that had arrived.Called them every morning and afternoon(my boss in work even called them and threatened to go to the Belfast Telegraph).My calls were met with frosty responses and they even tried to blame it on me at one point,saying that what did i expect for leaving it so late to buy a dress,even though they assured me it was fine!!!!!Personally,I think the dress got lost as I suspect I actually got the shop dress! The dress finally showed up on the Saturday (I was getting married on the Monday!!).The dressmaker then came to pin it for alterations and informed me that "it might not get done because she was heading home to Denmark the next morning to visit family"!!! I asked the Manager what would happen if this was the case to which she just shrugged and "joked" that she was sure I knew someone with a sewing machine!! I really wasn`t in the mood to laugh! The dress was finally picked up on the morning of my wedding and the "alterations"(which they charged me £165 for)consisited of "wonderweb" type stuff ironed on to the hem...this was a pure silk dress!!!! The hem wasn`t straight,still to long and the bodice didn`t fit right.The skirts were wrinkled. A button had been added to hold up the train but fell of somewhere between getting dressed and getting to the car!! Absolutely disgraceful service! When my bridesmaid picked up the dress that morning she complained on my behalf.The Manager responded that she would "throw in the hoop hire for free due to the trouble" and added that she was doing me a HUGE favour as they "didn`t normally do that type of thing"!! This "discount" amounted to the grand total of £20...for a dress that cost over £2500 and £165 for alterations,a £200 veil and a £60 tiara,I don`t think she was doing me that much of a favour! Needless to say,the hem had dropped by the time I got to the reception venue causing the dress to catch in doors which in turn caused damage...the train was also puckered at the edges and filthy due to the button falling off. This is the most important dress you will ever buy,please don`t risk going here, having last minute panic and a constant reminder of dissapointment hanging in your wardrobe. read more

Do not go to this shop. I went twice- to look and then for a retry. Each time there were massive arguments in the shop. With one girl, the dress maker cut the dress too short around the neck, which meant the brides chest was hanging out. The customer got the blame for not wearing the correct underwear when going for the fitting, even though she was told it didn't matter. The shouting the manager did to that poor girl was awful. The customer was never going to be right. Then the manager tried to book the girl in for another fitting the day before her wedding!!! That did not go down well. On the second occasion, a bride was going to try on her dress for the first time. Her wedding was 5 weeks after that. The dress was brought out to the shop floor with black marks on it and the sequences were all falling off the corset. The mother of the bride said she wouldn't be happy paying for it until it was fixed. The manager (same girl as last time) said the dress maker will not go near the dress until the full amount was paid. The mother of the bride had to pay for a faulty item. Disgraceful customer service in this shop. The bride to be was very destressed. With all the shouting going on, I did not return to the shop for a third time as I could not concentrate. Also, if you are looking for some where private, where no one will see you dress, this is not the place for you. They take up to three brides at a time. I was in the same time as a girl I went to school with. Luckily I hadn't changed into anything, but she came out of the changing room with her wedding dress on for her final fitting. She was mortified when she seen me. After care service is also not great. My sister in law got charged £400 for turning a dress up. It had to be done twice as on the first attempt it puckered. read more

I found the dress of my dreams in this shop, and even though I didn't like their attitude, I loved my dress, so I paid my deposit and left. I didn't want to get my bridesmaid dresses here because of the service, so myself and one of my bridesmaids drove the whole way to Armagh instead to look at the same bridesmaid dress that I liked in Pronuptia. Unfortunately, they were over £100 more expensive for the same dresses, so I had to go back and order from Pronuptia begrudgingly in the end up. Worst decision of my life. I am not even married yet, i have 3 weeks to go, and my dressmaker has just dropped the bombshell on me that my 2 bridesmaids dresses are different shades of the same colour and that the dress of my dreams that i adored had been previously altered and dry cleaned, there were also 2 rips in the dress, one quite sizeable in the front. I paid full price for this dress in Pronuptia over £1100, and now, i am left shellshocked, my perfect dresses is not the new dress it was supposed to be and I have 2 mismatched bridesmaid dresses. I am devastated to say the least! I have been planning everything for the past year and I just feel that Pronuptia have ruined something so special for me. I have no choice but to use these dresses as it is so close to my wedding, but i don't feel as special in my dress knowing what i now know. I have contacted trading standards and they have told me to go through the small claims court which I intend to do. It won't change anything, but I want Pronuptia held accountable for this. Firstly I can't rate them any lower than one starZERO stars. Being a buzzing bride to be I narrowed down my choice to bridal shops to 4 shops and am devastated that I wasted one of them on pronuptia. The sale weekend was on so I thought it would be nice to see what was on offer so made an appointment to try on both sale and non sale gowns. Arrived on time with my 2bridesmaids to stand at the locked door being glared at by the assistant through the widow for it to be finally flung open by her who didn't greet us etcwe stood for a further five minutes with no idea what we had to do. Finally we were seen to by an assistant who gave me tokens and asked us to select dresses we wanted 2tryone of which i actually got to try on. The sale dress had a bust zip and two broken straps plastered in fake tan (all which would need fixed at your own expense!!). All of the other dresses selected by her were wrong for me and when I said I didn't like them I was told well what do you like I expressed that I only really wanted to try on one dress that was in the window. With 35 minutes of my appointment left I was told it would be too much hassle and to come back another day so I gathered my things and left. It is not acceptable to try on wedding dresses in front of other brides and their familieseasily 15 strangers (never mind theses who look though the shop windows) NEVER again and they will get no recommendations from me, my family or my friends. read more

I have never before filled in one of these reviews but I felt so strongly about the poor service at this shop I had to write this. One of the worst customer experience I have ever encountered. I have to say I was relieved to read other customer comments and realise I wasn't on my own with how poorly this shop deals with their customers who are paying (might I say) extraordinary amounts of money to be treated like second class citizens. The staff and owner is rude beyond belief and continually fobs off customers with empty promises and bad manners! Like other reviewers, after my purchase we were informed that a number of people had experienced a poor service from this store. I know most reviews need to be taken with a pinch of salt and you have to experience the service for yourself but please let this review alert you to what could potentially be stress you don't need ahead of your wedding! If anything I hope this alerts Pronuptia staff to the benefit of consumer power and helps them adjust the attitude and service provided by their staff! To their advantage the range of dresses and location of their store is excellent but they need to listen to the customer feedback before their business suffers! read more

NO STARS. I had an appointment in this shop yesterday. When I dropped in last week to make the appointment it was like I was trespassing and had no right to be there and was also told to wear big knickers for the appointment, which I found insulting. I'm a size 10/12. The staff are disinterested, unhelpful and patronising. They are really offhandish and seem to resent you being there. They don't seem to realise that people are very excited and looking forward to trying on dresses and are not used to needing someone to help dress and undress them. I did not like the range of dresses i tried on. I printed off alot from their website before going there but they only had one or two of them in the store so I had to try on alot of meringues! I will not be going back even though I did like one dress. I will find another shop that has it. I would like to recommend Jenny Lindop in Bangor. They have stunning dresses - I tried on about 10 and loved 5. The two ladies who own the shop are delightful and really make you feel special. They give honest opinions and great suggestions. I can't stop thinking about one dress they showed me. Maybe its the one! read more

I agree totally with you Jenny Benson I had the best experience ever in Pronuptia. If I enjoy my wedding day as much as I did buying my dress in this fantastic shop I will be more than happy. The staff are professional yet funny, I was very nervous about trying on dresses as i had terrible experiences in other bridal shops, i.e. Blush (don't go there), Castle couture and Jean Millar staff were rude. Jackie the owner is very down to earth, but made me feel like a princess. The shop is a very busy shop but you know what they say don't eat in a restaurant that's empty" My mum bought her dress in Pronuptia and she was still impressed 30 years on. The sample dresses were the cleanest I have tried on in any shop, and the surroundings immaculate,so i don't quite understand what you mean Olivia271. This is the worst shop I have ever been into, and since my experiences there I have been telling everyone how rude they aresurprise, surprise, no-one who had been anywhere near the shop had anything good to say about it! I had an appointment to try on dresses, arrived on time, was eventually greeted at the door by a very gruff lady who demanded to know what we wanted. When I explained we had an appointment to look at dresses we were barked at to sit down. The looks we go on walking into the shop were as if we were worse than dirt on the bottom of their shoes. After 15 minutes of being completely ignored in the frosty atmosphere (all they had to say, was that they'd be with us soon), despite one girl walking past us to fix the window display I decided we should leave. It was only as we had to unlock the door to get out that they paid us any attention at all. At this point I told them I was leaving as they had completely ignored us after keeping us waiting for a quarter of an hour and because they were so rude. read more

Awful experience. First time bridal shopping and left feeling sad, frustrated and annoyed. I explained to the lady (Valerie) the type of dress I was looking for as I've found certain dresses before do not suit my shape. She then proceeded to pass in 5 dresses I previously explained wouldn't suit me and snapped at my friends when I said no to each of them she's the quickest bride I've ever seen, says no to everything!. When I tried on one that was flattering she then told me she didn't think they had another dress in the shop to suit your shape. Lovely. She left me standing in the dress as she went to the back of the shop and didn't return for a while- I had to ask the other assistant to help me out of the dress. After reading the previous reviews I wish I hadn't bothered going to this shop. Service was rude and unflattering- exactly what a girl doesn't need when shopping for wedding dresses. I read a lot of reviews before going to the shop so half expected to leave in tears but have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. It was the first shop I went to and was treated very well! I went in the middle of a week day with my mum and MOH and was there for nearly 2 hours trying on many dresses. At no point did I feel rushed or in the way. When I went back recently (after a gap of a couple of months) they remembered me and the dress I had come back to try on again. They had infact sold it and without much prompting offered to order in a sample, free of charge, so I could try it on again! In the end I didn't end up with that dress but that decision had absolutely nothing to do with the shop or its staff. I can imagine if you went on a Saturday they could be quite strict about the amount of time you have but on every occasion I've been in I was the only customer. read more

If I could give it no stars, I would. My friend bought a dress from Pronuptia (Promise Bridal) and as part of the negotiations, Jackie, the proprieter promised her free alterations. As most brides do, she lost weight in the run up to the wedding and at the final fitting a few days before the wedding Jackie failed to carry out her promise, and made my friend pay for the alterations, despite them having a written agreement. She shouted at her on the phone, criticised her for losing weight and told her she could not leave with her dress if she didn't pay the final alteration. My friend had such a horrible experience and I am telling everyone I know to avoid. Since talking about it I have also heard of two more brides who she reduced to tears. Have they changed their name to 'Promise Bridal' to shake the bad reputation attached to the name 'Pronuptia'? read more

My mother and I went to Pronuptia today and I can say I was never as glad to get out of a shop than I was today. The shop is dirty and the dresses are covered in dirty bags to 'protect' the dresses, however, some dresses I tried on were ripped. I showed the staff my scrapbook of ideas at the start but didnt get anything close to what was in my scrapbook to try on. It wasnt the dresses or staff however who put me off this shop and made it the worse experience ever, it was the fact that your appointment IS NOT PRIVATE. I had a family of about 6 who came in to discuss bridemaids dresses and had screaming kids in my ear while I tried on my dresses. I couldnt even hear my mother speak with the noise. Then I had children to step over while I was getting changed-not a nice experience. I would not advise this shop unless you are really stuck. read more

I work in the area where this shop is and I pass it every day. I called in to look at tiaras and bridal accessories as I was going to a formal and I also wanted some ideas for my own wedding. I was approached at the door by this gruff older woman who folded her arms and demanded to know what I wanted. I said I wanted to have a look... but before I could finish my sentence she told me I needed to make an appointment. I told her I just wanted to look at the accessories but she again told me I needed an appointment. I was horrified at the way a potential customer was spoken to. Needless to say, I went to Debenhams and BHS and was more than happy to give nice, polite people and places my business. I would also like to add that I was wearing a suit as I was on my lunch hour from the office so I was well dressed and respectable. read more

My daughter and I also had a very unpleasant experience in Pronuptia. We were greeted (if you could call it that) by a very unpleasant older woman who had no interest in what my daughter had to say. She brought dresses she herself liked for my daughter to try on and paid no attention to what we wanted. One dress was more than we wanted to pay, not more than we could afford to pay, and we were made to feel like paupers and told we could always save up for it!!! My daughter did try on a dress that she really liked and we have sourced the dress elsewhere were the staff are friendly and helpful and you are the ONLY bride in the studio. You want to enjoy the whole experience of trying on dresses and feeling special not made to feel that you are in the way. My rating is no stars at all! read more

Pronuptia bridal shop in Belfast was the worst bridal boutique I have been too. I would advise any bride to stay away from it. The staff in the shop where so ignorant and not nice in any way. Another thing which is a complete disgrace is the fact that you will be trying on wedding dresses with atleast 3-3 other brides all in the one room along with who ever they bring with them. I visited 4 other bridal boutiques and i was the only bride to be in the store with a private appointment.just shows you that you are only a number in Pronuptia. The shop is a disgrace and i wish i had never visited it- they dont care about what you want and their attitudes are awful and they make you feel like nothing. Don't listen to any of the reviews,just visit the store and see for yourself. My daughter ordered her wedding gown and was attended by Valerie,who was more than helpful. A few weeks later we went back to the shop to let her bridesmaids see the gown again we were more than satisfied with the service. When my daughters dress arrived in the shop we both went down for a fitting and the girl who worked with us on the Monday was very pleasant. The store is very popular,surely that must reflect on the service given. I would not hesitate to recommend pronuptia to any bride. Pronuptia provided a lovely service and had a wide range of beautiful gowns. I went with my mum and found the perfect dress and paid the deposit. I was very excited to show my bridemaid however when I phoned to make an appointment I was greeted with a very unpleasent response. I was told that because I had bought the dress already I could not do that and would just have to wait until my fitting which is months away.
