I went to this…read moreshop to try on the Enzoani dress that they feature on their website,I called before my appointment to check that they had this particular dress and was told they had. When we arrived and I showed the lady the picture she told me they actually didn't have that dress in the shop. Not to worry,I thought, I'll just try on another few dresses and see if there was anything that I liked. It's worth noting that I had my appointment 3 months after I had my son, however, I was still wearing my size 8 jeans as I didn't gain very much weight during my pregnancy other than my bump and maybe slightly round my hips. I tried on a few dresses and they all had to be pinned at the back. I believe most sample sizes in the shop were a 12. The eighth dress I tried on I fell in love with. This particular sample dress was a size 12 and fit quite well. It is also worth noting that the lady that took my measurements was 'standing in' to help out. So she measured me up,didn't tell me any sizes,nor was there a size on the sheet I signed for the dress to be ordered. I had said that I was a size 8 normally however,may have had a bit of baby weight around my tummy and hips which wouldn't be there in a years time. The size 12 dress would definitely have needed to be taken in, even if I didn't have baby weight to lose. I had put my trust in this lady to take my measurements correctly. I turned up to pick up my dress 2 months before my wedding and almost cried when I tried the dress on.....they had ordered me a size 14......the dress was massive on me but the lady reassured me that a dress maker can take in a dress up to 3 sizes and it wouldn't be a problem so I signed for the dress and went to a dress fitter to get the alterations made. When the dress fitter had pinned everything to my figure the shoulders were hanging off mine and the back was completely gaping. She said there was nothing she could do about this as it was because the dress was wider as it was a size 14. Obviously I went into panic mode,less than two months to the wedding and i have a dress that does not fit my frame. We contacted LA Bridal and they refused to accept any responsibility saying that due to my 'excessive weight loss' it was not their fault. I have pictures of me in the shop that day in size 8 jeans and in the size 12 sample dress which was too big and I can assure you that I was nowhere near a size 14,and there certainly wasn't any excessive weight loss. Luckily we found the dress in a size 10 in another bridal shop who were an amazing help (Petticoat Lane in Hillsborough) and I was able to wear a dress that fit beautifully on one of the most special days of my life. However we have had to pay twice and we now have a size 14 wedding dress we do not need. AVOID this shop at all costs, I'm not usually a complainer but thanks to this bridal shop my special day was almost ruined. They have taken no responsibility

They also do a wee offer where you get £100 to spend in the shop if you buy the dress on the first look. I did because I had tried it on in another shop which I refused to buy from. I therefore got my necklace, earings and head piece for £35 which was great. Priced the dress I wanted in a few shops before I bought, Angel Star were not any more expensive, in fact cheaper than McElhiney's in Donegal. Agree with AngelDeb, there are no on site alterations which is not great but she did recommend a lady nearby who has been in the business for 30 odd years and seems very professional. Go out of your way to visit this shop!

Angel Star is a bridal and formal wear shop in Carrickfergus. It's easy to find, as it's just…read moreacross the road from the Castle (and thus from a large free car park). It has a special bridal room, which is well lit with natural light. The staff are knowledgable and helpful. The selection of dresses is broad, without being completely overwhelming. They also have a good range of bridesmaid dresses.The two cons would be that they are quite expensive, and that they don't do alterations on site - you need to take your dresses elsewhere. I haven't received my dresses yet, so will update this when I do - but happy with the service I received to date!

The staff are friendly and helpful, without being any way overbearing. They are quite expensive - around £110 for a suit, although this includes a new shirt (which you keep), cufflinks and tie or cravat. They have some nice ties but I would like to see a bigger colour range - they didn't have the colour we were looking for. This obviously was a downside, as we will have to pay for cravats or ties to be made, which is an extra cost.

Head this direction if you're after that unique wedding dress or something special for a black tie occasion. I got a beautiful dress here a few years ago for my school formal, ah the memories! The staff were more than welcoming and helped me choose my perfect selection and handily they had all the accessories to match, saved me trooping all over the place looking for them, this would have been a nightmare! I would recommend House of Elliot more so for special occasions as it is at the higher end of most peoples price range. You do find exquisite tailoring and quality. It's not to miss for that special event you might have coming up.
