I visited Promises and Lace twice while I was wedding dress shopping. I have even popped in to have my bridesmaids and mom try on dresses, even before I started trying on dresses for myself. The first time I made my appointment at P&L, I arrived and was greeted by our consultant for the day. I love the cozy, boutique atmosphere at P&L. It feels very intimate and home-like. I had already been to a few other wedding dress boutiques so I had a slight idea of what I was looking for. I had my entourage of my best friend, cousin and my mom with me. We told our consultant what I was looking for and she walked around picking out a few dresses she thought would fit. Now - I have to say that she picked a few I really did not like, but she insisted I try. I was honestly so surprised at how she knew better than even I knew what I wanted! The ones I picked were not so great, and the ones she picked all looked fabulous! I ended up falling for one that was TOTALLY different than what I was envisioning - and I never would have tried it on if my consultant did not insist! She was so knowledgeable about the designers, fabrics, accessories and what can be customized/added/changed about the dresses. We were all so impressed! I didn't end up buying on my first round, but I did make another appointment to try that one dress on again and ended up purchasing it! I also love that the designer is Canadian (Mikaella by Paloma Blanca!) The customer service is so fantastic, and this was the one shop where the consultants are so knowledgeable about the dresses and were able to tell me so much about each dress! This was one shop that did not rush me out after my 1 hour was closing in - most bridal boutiques try to get you in and out as quickly as they can to be able to fit in more appointments...not P&L - they actually book an hour and 1/2 because they know 1 hour is not usually enough time and they don't want to rush the bride! Prices also cannot be beat - I came across many dresses that I had seen in other boutiques and P&L by far had the best pricing and was willing to work within my budget. I had been hunting across Toronto for a dress - which I needed rather quickly, I had almost given up on having that ahh moment when I found 'the dress'. I was starting to feel like I would just have to choose something, this was the second last place on my list before I was going to have to bite the bullet and make a decision. I originally went to Promises and Lace to try on a Pronovias dress that I was interested in. Lynn and I spoke several times over the phone and she was very helpful, even going so far as to check whether or not they would be able to order in a new one for me before I trekked out to Burlington. I arrived early for my apt. and had a lovely wait, chatting with some of the other customers - the atmosphere was fantastic and everyone was extremely friendly. Carol helped with my fitting, we started with the dress I was interested in, it was nice but not wow, she pulled off another similar dress, it was better then the first one but a bit to ferry princess for my taste. So we went through the racks together (she knew every dress, where it was and what it was like) - I could see the wheels spinning as she jumped to the other side of the room and handed me a dress from a different designer. It was fantastic, I wont go into the details but I had my - ahhh - moment :) Better still it was by a Canadian designer and they could order me a new one in time for the wedding. The service I received was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and not pushy. Everything you want when shopping. I will be going back to order the dress and do the fittings. Warning to all brides, do not, I repeat DO NOT go to this bridal shop! Or if you decide to roll the dice I hope your consultant is not Carol. My maid of honor and I were awkwardly greeted by Carol who had just put cream on her hands so couldn't shake ours, which I thought was a bit rude. After discussing budget it felt as though Carol had checked out, and we were just wasting her time. Just a FYI not all brides feel the need to break the bank on their wedding dress, even when they are capable. Moving on to the dresses, Carol had asked the style I was interested in, and I had told her my preference however she continued to reference that what I wanted was out of my budget. My mother arrived at this time where she also received a very awkward greeting from Carol. The dresses that were pulled were 2-3 sizes too big which is standard, however my maid of honor asked if the dresses could be clipped so we could see how they would fit on my body, and we were told that the dresses aren't clipped because they ruin them...now I am not an expert on this but how is a bride supposed to envision how the dress is supposed to fit on her body without being clipped? The fitting rooms were also the size of a closet and made it really hard to comfortably change in and out of different bridal gowns. I do want to point out that even if I DID find the dress of my dreams, I would not have purchased it at Promises and Lace because of how horrific Carol was. She not only was rude and condescending but she also felt the need to give her negative opinion on every dress as well as reference that I am fat (I am a size 4). Brides in general are a bit vulnerable around this time in their lives and having those comments made is really absolutely disgusting. Sadly, from the reviews I have previously read it looks like this isn't the first time Carol has done this. Red Flags should be waving to management on this!!! I will never recommend anyone to visit this bridal shop, as no bride should ever have to go through such a horrendous experience at what is supposed to be the best time in their lives. read more

I have never written a review before, but I have never received such wonderful customer service and felt compelled to sing my praises! Lynn at Promises and Lace made finding my veil one of the easiest experiences in wedding planning so far. I am a Texas bride and never expected to find my veil in Canada, but found the most gorgeous veil online from Promises and Lace. Lynn replied to emails very quickly and even knew my dress and assured me that it complemented it perfectly. She shipped the veil right away so that it would arrive in time for my bridal session and packed it beautifully! I am so excited to wear this amazing veil on my wedding day! If you'd like to receive a SAMPLE DRESS that you tried on the first time you found "the dress" a year later, then this is your store. The horror of going for a fitting with the same dress you originally tried on a year later with all the glory of rips, armpit stains, heel marks, and lipstick is what happened to my best friend. Lucky she received her deposit back and GLADLY brought her money to a respectable business. Thanks but no thanks. Head somewhere else brides. Glad some of you have great experiences, but the way this unfolded was unprofessional, and not a way to run a business. Especially an important one like wedding gowns, for the most important day of your life. Hard to have this happen to your best friend and not think in the future...I will never shop here for my special day. read more

the customer service was terrible, the women was constantly making comments about the brides weight. It is a beautiful store but the dresses are so compact in the hangers its hard to get a good look at them. The bridesmaid dresses were outdated and there was a limited selection. I have had the worst experience with this store. I found a beautiful dress that I loved but it definitely needed to be altered to my body to fit properly. I asked repeatedly and was reassured that it would be possible to have a bra or cups added to the dress so it would fit correctly as it was a backless dress. A year later and 4 weeks before my wedding I went to have my alterations completed. The first thing the seamstress yelled at me frustration- "why do they make these dresses that don't work with a bra" inside I started to panic. The alteration lady kept trying to make the straps shorter, aggressively pulling at the dress until I finally told her stop because every time she's pulls the straps she is choking me. The dress was not too long for me, it was ill fitting in the bust line, the same area I was concerned about before purchasing. I was made many false promises just so the store could make a sale. Lynne the manager handled the whole situation poorly and unprofessionally. Assuring me that if I had complained more before she could have found me another dress. She refused to give me my money back even though the dress is unaltered, but offered to sell it for me - probably so she could resale it to make even more of a profit. My sister also heard the seamstress talking about me and how the dress was too tight and other negative things about me and my body. Brides beware. It's obvious now Lynne didn't seem to care because after reading many poor reviews she must deal with upset brides regularly. read more

I had a horrible experience searching for my wedding dress at Promises and Lace. I had gone to 2 bridal salons in the morning in Waterdown, both where the service was amazing and at both locations the dresses came in a variety of prices ($500-$2,000). I had phoned ahead and booked an appointment, and asked what their price point was. I was looking to spend around $1,500. They assured me they had a number of dresses from $800 and up. I thought great, so I booked the appointment. As soon as I got there, I was met by a snooty sales lady. I brought my Mom and some of my bridesmaids with me. The sales lady immediately told all my bridesmaids not to say anything about any of the dresses I was about to try on. I was a bit taken aback, particularly by her tone, but decided she must have seen some opinionated bridesmaids working at a bridal salon. Then I started describing what I wanted in a dress. I was open to a number of things, but I absolutely did not want any ruching. She then proceeds to show me 3 options for dresses all between the $1,500 - $2,000 range, one of which had ruching. I didn't love anything she showed me, but when I asked her if she had anything else, she said no. On top of that, the salon was packed with brides. There was very little room, and they had obviously overbooked their appointments. I ended up trying on all three dresses in a tiny fitting room, and then the best option on once again (even thought I didn't love it). At that point the sales lady looked at me and asked more or less if I was ready to buy it. I couldn't believe she was serious! I asked her again if she had anything else, and she raised an eyebrow at me. Since I wasn't ready to buy the 3rd dress I tried on she tipped myself and my group out of the salon after 25 minutes. I was assured on the phone that appointments weren't rushed through. Every other bridal appointment I attended before and since took their time and were patient, something this lady needs to learn. In addition, the best dress option I tried on here was missing a sash which I later saw in photos. You would've thought that they knew the sash was missing and try to put a jewelled belt or something else on instead. Lucky for another bridal salon, I found my dream dress and it cost $5,000. If this sales lady at Promises and Lace had been more patient and taken more time with me, maybe they would've made that $5,000 sale. I would definitely think twice about visiting Promises and Lace. read more

To all future brides, If you'd like amazing dresses and friendly service, this is your store!! I have been on the hunt for "the dress" for about 3 months now. I have gone to almost all of the bridal stores that are in the GTA - some good, some really bad. I was so pleasantly shocked when I went to Promises and Lace. For my initial visit, I was about 25 min late (stuck on the QEW!), and thought I would have my appointment cut short (as one store had done to me previously). However, when I got there, the ladies welcomed me and told me not to worry about being late for my appointment. Jennie helped me look for dresses - she was so patient and helpful and encouraging! Simply amazing. I ended up finding my dress without feeling pressured or obligated in any way. I came back a second time with some family to show them the dress, and again there was no pressure or obligation to buy. Jennie was extremely helpful the second time also, suggesting accessories and ideas for bustling. I would highly recommend this store to everyone on who is searching for the perfect dress. Once you visit, all other bridal stores will not compare to the service. read more

This was probably the worst store I went to throughout my entire process of searching for a wedding dress. My mom and I walked and were greeted by Carol who would be helping us with the dresses that day. We looked around the store and pulled dresses that we liked while Carol asked what I was looking for. A majority of their dresses had tulle (which I wanted to avoid). What I will say is that almost all their dresses were below $5,000. What made this experience awful was Carol. Every single dress I was given she had to make the point of saying that they would not fit (keep in mind I'm about an average size, I'm about an 8/10). Without fail she would have to comment about how the dresses would not fit. I am slightly self-conscious about my body and having someone squack at me about how everything was going to be too small for me made this experience pretty awful. The only dress I did like couldn't even be ordered anymore. Their dressing rooms are like broom closets and you can barely get a ballgown on in there. Overall, awful experience and I would not recommend wasting your time coming here. read more

This boutique was recommended to me but unfortunately I didn't have the most enjoyable experience here. My mother and I were greeted with smiles but once they heard my budget, the consultant became less welcoming. I explained I was looking for an empire waist and something flowy. She brought me two form fitting gowns. In her defence I don't think she had much selection to choose from. They wished me luck and we left. This store is small, and a bit pricier than $$. read more

I had such an awful experience at this store! The entire time the sales lady continued to comment how dresses wouldn't fit me (I'm size 8/10). She was only able to bring me 3 dresses out of the entire store that she stated would a) fit me b) fit my budget and c) fit my style. They were rude and snobby the entire time. This store definitely caters to a certain look and clientele, which they made very clear to me that I did not fit. Save your time and go somewhere else! read more
