I visited the store again to support the Pumpkins for 'Possums event. It was wonderful to see everyone who came out to support. I appreciated how the store and event was ran with separate lines for the the entry into the store and the line for interacting with the possum. I waited in the line for the store which only took about 10 minutes. The store was packed with people but even more importantly, really cool Halloween merch! I liked the photo op area in the front of the store. I this the store hosting this charity event was amazing. I waited in line for the possum where I got to pet the possum and donate. A spooky ship for Halloween year round. This store has a great selection of goth/spooky items. I went for their 5 year anniversary and it was quite packed so I didn't get many photos. It isn't a big location but there is quite a lot inside. They have some items that you can find online and other items that are made by local artists. I would say the pricing is a little higher but not too unaffordable. I found a gorgeous gothic lace sleeve piece that I found online for $3 less. I would rather support locally so I had no problem paying a little more. The staff was friendly and helped take photos of my family and zi around their coffin. I'm not sure if the coffin is always there or just there for the anniversary, but it was a fun photo spot. If you're in the area or looking for a place to get some Goth or spooky gear, I highly recommend checking this place out. They also have coffee so you can get your caffeine fix while here too. You can even try on the clothing in the bathroom where they have a cool coffin mirror. read more

I knew what to expect here and it was out of this world and intriguing. It's like a museum to me. Think gothic, Halloween, tales from the crypt, dark and gloomy, dark science lab, oddities, witch craft. So many ideas passed through my head, but it was especially eye catching, surprising and interesting. It's small but fully loaded up with stuff to see. Check it out! Very small niche spot for exotic oddities! We stopped here wanting to do some Halloween shopping. We knew they were gothic in nature and has seen ads online, but we didn't really look further into it before visiting. It was an amazing experience walking into a photo op and seeing they had fresh coffee grounds and breed tea - along with wet specimens and taxidermy. Attached are photos of my favorite squirrel! Surreal experience and my new favorite oddity store in the Orlando area. The second you walk in it's like a step into a scene out of goosebumps. Love this place. Once you look at one thing you find 20 more that are cooler than the last. They also have fantastic coffee that has the power of a quad turbo space shuttle on steroids. The Rundown: Truly one of the most unique stores in the area, small but mighty in selection and filled with personality from the cheerful staff to the range of goods (from pop culture to antiquities). The Review: My first "introduction" to this store was their hosting an oddities event in 2024 I attended. I finally took the time to visit and it's certainly a local gem for a variety of reasons and worth visiting! It's located in a small strip Plaza and entering takes you to a tight, dark world that hosts oddities of all types with very friendly and service oriented staff. It's an eclectic assortment ranging from enamel pins and graphic tees to antiques and taxidermy creatures. Oh and they have tea and coffee offerings ready to brew for you! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - truly with the goal to help you find what you need. Even if that means sharing a different supplier to visit (in our case, the mask a friend was seeking had been sold so the team shared where to find it). Pricing overall was very reasonable considering the wares they peddle. Unique books were at suggested retail pricing and not marked up, taxidermy and antiques seemed priced to not hurt your pockets (for those into such items). If you're in the area, it's definitely worth popping in. You're certain to be intrigued by the sights you encounter! read more

I love this store. It's hard to find really good gothic places and this one is definitely up there. They serve great coffee and tea and have an awesome environment of cool items and oddities. The price for a cup of coffee is fair and cheap and worth it to try the rotating flavors. My only complaint is that I have the bad luck of when i find a ring i like there, my size is out. In the non descript shopping plaza, Shoppes Howell Branch is the self proclaimed weirdest coffee shop in Orlando. I also anoint it the coolest shop in Orlando. Welcome to Prometheus Esoterica, an oddities boutique in the Abbey Rose Vintage Shop, curated by husband and wife, Adam DeLancett and Whitney Hayes. I have really wanted to visit here ever since discovering them on social media. On a trip to Winter Park to visit my daughter I finally got an opportunity to satisfy my curiosity. Inside the dark interior is an eclectic assortment of items from the owners private collection mixed in with taxidermy, antiques, uranium glass, goth clothing, books, old photographs, artisan made crafts, candles, gemstones, accessories, plush toys, coffee, and tea all for sale. You can take your coffee and tea with you to make at home or enjoy a freshly brewed cup in the store. You can easily imagine that Wednesday Adams or Lydia Deetz would feel right at home here. Friendly staff are around every corner to chat, offer suggestions, or give you the history on the unusual specimens like the two headed fetal pig named Ham and Bacon. I love supporting small businesses and I purchased a sweetly spooky Pennywise headband for my daughter. Other favorite items included a bat bottle opener and an opossum coffee mug that you turn upside down to use. I can't believe I waited so long to check out this shop! It made my oddity loving self so happy! The store has a variety of unique items, clothing, art, decor, old time medical related items, wet and dry specimens (which I was happy to hear were humanely sourced), and many other things. On top of all that, they serve yummy coffees and teas that are very inexpensive. The staff here were all friendly and happy to answer questions or give more info about their unique items. The staff let us know that items rotate regularly and soon they will be having items themed more towards ren faire style. It gives a great reason to go back and see the rotation of stock for sale. I can't believe I have left Florida for three years and I have never been here. This Hass to be the coolest store I have ever been in. From the taxidermy on the walls, to the animals in the little jars, and all the oddities and curiosities your heart can desire in one space. I might've spent a couple dollars here; however I talked to the staff and they are unbelievably nice. One of the gentleman in the store talking to me he mentioned I should check out a Bar called permanent vacation so I'm definitely gonna have to go there. I picked up a Viking Necklace, a bat necklace, a spooky clown sticker and a stunning colar. If you like anything spooky an audit you should definitely come here it is right next to Donut King across from nothing on Howell's Ranch Road. 10/10 read more

Ecstatic to have found a year round Spooky coffee shop! @prometheusesoterica is a boutique shop with endless displays to explore. From specimens to tarot cards to witchcraft books, there are many cool items for sale. They offer different 'Coffee Shop of Horrors' coffee grounds to make at home or sip while you shop. I enjoyed the "Ichabod's Dame Pumpkin Spice" coffee with oatmilk and honey. They also sell unique mixes of tea like the "Prometheus Esoterica" in whiskey chai flavor. The place is thoroughly decorated from wall to ceiling with intriguing Oddities. Handicap accessible layout of the store. I truly appreciate the dairy-free creamer option with beverages. My girl friends and I loved dressing in black and indulging in out-of-the-box shopping. I even scored a Wednesday Addams shirt‍. We went home with lots of goodies and already planning our return! Let's start with the warm custom service. For a shop that size they had plenty of friendly staff to offer a hand, opinion or courteous space. I walked in just to check it out and was greeted at the front door immediately. They introduced me to some pieces made by local artists as well as exclusive staples to the shop. As I went deeper in the aroma of fresh brewed coffee caught my attention. I was told that I can have as many samples as I want and what creamer, if any, would enhance the experience. I ended up buying a cup of my second sample and can tell you, as an avid 4x a week Starbucks and 2x a week Dunkin & weekend foxtail aficionado this coffee is GOOD. I will definitely be adding it to my rotation. I purchased two t shirts as well and will be returning for their Black Friday holiday launch. Perfect for the macabre soul. This is a small shop tucked away on an off road next to a beloved local donut shop. Ideally, this place would be right at home near an Edgar Alan Poe museum or attraction. But, since we aren't in Baltimore, we don't have anything like that. Eventually, I think, a bigger place will be needed for this shop. As it is, it' is full to the brim with oddities and curiosities which those with an affinity for the darker side of life will relish. Books of all sort, the occult, witchcraft, etc etc. Want a finger bone? That's available. Want to be in possession of some archaic, disturbing medical equipment? That's here. Honestly, a write-up does this place little justice. You need to see it to believe it. Plus, they have a (very) small coffee bar. In essence, I imagine this is just the beginning for this place. Eventually they'll have to move into a bigger location. Stay tuned! read more

I was brought into this store on a whim thanks to the suggestion of the tattoo shop next door and it was the best advice I was ever given. This shop is a GEM! The staff/owner? (I forget his name) is so incredibly friendly and talks to you as if you're a friend who walked in. They don't pressure you to buy anything and are always excited to talk about things like taxidermy with you. All of the walls are packed with the craziest and best array of stuff from gems and surgical equipment to wet specimens skull and crowns. Even with their own coffee in store! I've come back several times and they seem to go through items pretty fast, things sell FAST do not expect to be able to come back for that item you love. But they do a good job restocking with items of the same category and you can always request something specific and they seem very willing to try and get some for you! My wife and I are big into oddities and curiosities-- we visit the convention yearly in Tampa and really enjoy seeing the bizarre and freakishly unique items at once a year experiences like that and wishes we didn't have to wait an entire year for shopping trips like that one! And then- we found PROMETHEUS! We saw them at the convention and we're blown away by their selection of merchandise. From taxidermy to wet specimens... to clothing and coffee... to authentic antiques and themed housewares, this spot is a MUST SEE for anyone who can make the trip. Beyond the merch, the staff are the most friendly, down to earth, helpful people on the planet. The fact that you're permitted to walk into the shop and literally feel your way around blew our minds. A huge shoutout to them also for hosting and participating in special events and fundraising as well for causes they care about (like back to nature wildlife refuge). You're transported into a brand new world from the moment you enter through the door. Just in time for the spooky season this place felt like a tiny museum with all the oddities and unique merchandise they were selling. The staff was great at answering all of our questions and even giving us some coffee/tea samples of their products. From books to skulls and from clothes to art there's a little bit of everything for everyone. Walked away with some tea and spooky bath bombs but definitely will be back to walk around and shop for more locally sourced items. Glad there's lots of parking since they share a plaza parking lot. I wish they had some more locations but it was worth the drive to see something truly unique. read more

This Coffee/Curio shop is a fantastic place to stop by for a visit. While the shop is small-ish, it is packed full of oddities and other items for those who like things (including your coffee) a bit dark (and the dark-curious.) From taxidermy, to vintage medical tools, to tarot cards this place has a lot of, um, interesting items. On my visit they even had an old, foot powered, dental drill that made me instantly think of Dr. Orin Scrivello D.D.S.'s line from Little Shop of Horrors, " It's an antique. They don't make 'em like this any more. Sturdy. Heavy. Dull! " The most impressive thing about this shop? The owners. Not only were they friendly and accommodating, and happy to proudly talk about their collection and related weird and unusual topics, but they even gave us a tip on a place to visit in Savannah, Georgia, our next stop on our little trip. The coffee is absolutely incredible. Try the amaretto Poe themed coffee if you are on the fence. It is very strongly flavored and absolutely delicious. This is one of the most interesting and diverse oddities shops I have visited. The staff were inviting, approachable, and attentive to questions I had. This is a fun one-of-a kind experience! At the recommendation of a friend that worked at a museum with me in Chicago, I made the ten minute drive from my house to this new spot. At a first glance you may want to pass on the "strip mall" where Prometheus Esoterica resides, but don't (Donut King is another great reason to spend some time here). Under an old and charming Barber Shop sign with the classic blue and red barber pole, you'll find blacked out windows and a door to this lovely spot. Inside, there's a great collection of items (books, jewelry, gemstones, oddities galore). They even have a little bar top area where they make and serve coffee, the same coffee that you can buy to-go (again, great reason to also pop into Donut King, post coffee for a sweet treat...). I enjoyed the medical oddities on display (and for sale), and even reminisced with one of the owners about the International Surgical Science Museum that sits on the edge of Lake Michigan in Chicago - same vibes here! Although we still only moved in to our house less than six months ago, we don't need any more home decor. But, we couldn't help but want to bring something home (I've got my eye on a Papua New Guinea ceremonial mask that I'd love to go back for and bring home with me next time). Instead, we brought home a shadow box of shells. The museum-worker in me loved that instead of "shells" this display case (or, "unit tray" if you are a scientist that oversees a collection of specimen) simply noted that they were a conchology collection from the Florida Keys. They were originally a part of the owner's personal collection, and now these mollusks are a part of mine own. I think I felt an affinity to this little collection partially because I once produced an event for a group of conchologists, and partially because with our return to Florida, shells felt like a very appropriate homage to our new [/old] home. I got to speak to one of the owners and it turns out he used to manage the gift shop at the Skeleton Museum in Orlando. I visited the Skeleton Museum years ago before we moved away, but unfortunately, it is no longer open. The owner shared my sentiments that having a Skeleton Museum near the touristy part of town (I-Drive) instead of the quirky parts of town (near downtown) was not a smart choice for a place like a museum of skeletons, and it was bound to not last there. That aside, it assured me that these owners are my kind of people. Museum-people, that is. Appreciators of the unusual. Purveyors of the strange. read more
