This school is amazing!!! I only wish that all schools could provide this kind of love and nurturing to young minds. I have three kids, two kids in the school currently and one has already graduated. They are all very different and have their strengths and challenges, but they all thrived in this school. They all love coming to school. They never want to miss school even on days when they are under the weather. There is so much love and kindness given to these students, and they want to reciprocate. They care about everything. They care about everyone. They care about themselves. They want to do well. They do morning meditation and yoga which is such a great way to start the day. They are allowed to explore and learn as much as they can about any subject that they are passionate about. My kids love all the projects and learn so much from them. My oldest still knows all the facts from her dinosaur and planet projects from 2nd grade. She knows all about the state she researched in 3rd. She learned about all the Greek Myths from one of her 4th-grade elective projects. She still updates our online family tree she started in 5th grade while learning about genealogy. The art projects that sometimes take 5 weeks to finish because of the amount of detail that goes into them are on display all over my home. They can use any color, any medium, and any material in the art room. They read widely and often in every grade. My kids all love the class plays that take place at the end of the year. They are all so entertaining. I look forward to them every spring. Now can you see why they wouldn't want to miss a day? I can truly go on and on. I'm having a hard time condensing this post because there is so much to say about this wonderful school. I feel so fortunate to have found it and that my kids get their academic foundation here. This is the best school on Long Island. If you are looking for a school that develops children and doesn't focus on test scores. This is the place. The teachers are amazing and the principal and founder cares about the children deeply. The philosophy of the school is unlike any other. They have robotics programs where the kids can compete in a regional competition and a technology program associated with Hofstra University. The children of progressive are tolerant and compassionate. Student are challenged in academics but the focus on good character is what makes the school different then all others. The Progressive School of LI is an amazing place. I had my child in public school for just over two years and took her out and enrolled her in Progressive. It was the best move we could have made. The Progressive School is far and away above the public school academically. They have a very low student teacher ratio and every child gets a lot of attention. They have plenty of field trips, class plays and detailed projects. They start foreign language in kindergarten and programming in Python in third grade. Despite the advanced academics it is a kind and gentle environment. I would recommend the Progressive School of Long Island for anyone who is looking for more for their child. read more

I could not be paid to put my son in this school after a few calls with them. My son is extremely bright with no academic issues and excellent grades. When calling to talk to them about their middle school, I explained my son has been bullied and can be socially anxious and I liked the idea of him being in a smaller environment with similarly bright children. I was told they do not take children with issues and their experience is if he was bullied elsewhere that won't change and he would be bullied in their school too, and that he would not be accepted into their school. I could not believe that and said so. The staff member said she would speak to the Director and call me back. When she did she said that they would never have more than two children "with issues" in a grade and already had some children with issues in their middle school, and they also don't have a psychologist on staff. I explained that I never said my my son had issues or that he needs a psychologist. He never causes problems or bullies anyone. So much for a small family type environment. Sounds like they have no clue how to handle socially anxious children or bullying. My son is definitely better off in public school with this attitude. I was willing to look past all the reviews on the dirtiness for a great atmosphere - but this obviously isn't it. read more
