Got a call back very quickly saying they were on their way and would arrive in about an hour. Anthony arrived with another gentleman, Dom, on time and they patiently listened while I explained what was going on and what I tried. Anthony told me they'd first try to snake the drain and if that didn't work, there was another procedure with a water jet. I appreciated him being upfront about the fact that the first thing they would try may not work in order to set expectations. Decided to go with the snaking and Anthony let me know the price and proceeded to do the work. They were very thorough, spending about an hour working on it and testing it. By the end of the snaking, everything was working without an issue! Throughout the work, Anthony and Dom were extremely pleasant. They took extra care to ask if it was okay to move things onto the counter or if I wanted any extra protection on the floor. The great work, attention to detail, and general pleasantness mean I'll be calling Downtown Plumbing anytime I need a plumber.

Richard Haviland is a rare find. I needed a plumber to do some work in Brooklyn, but I did not have…read morethe time or resources to go to Brooklyn to find one. So, of course, I went to the web, Craigslist in particular, wading through a lot of ads and promo-posts that looked suspect at best and downright deceitful at worst. I was beginning to get worried when something about Richard's post caught my eye. I can't even tell you what it was to this day; it wasn't flashy or bombastic - maybe that's what it was, who knows. But something made me call him - and so far he has turned out to be the best tradesman I have had going into that building on a regular basis. He investigates the problem, gets in touch with me to review the details, we settle on a cost - always reasonable - and a course of action, and he gets the job done, letting me know the final bill. Work's done, tenants are happy and all is right with the world. He is a man of his word. And did I mention that I have yet to meet him face to face? That's right - we've been working together now for almost a year, and he and I have been nothing more than voices on the phone to each other with a little bit of cellphone technology mixed in. Sure, I have a guy in the building who works as a go-between for the residents and for followups. But Richard and I have been operating on a virtual handshake for almost a year now, and more than once he has shown himself to be not only a very good plumber, but a man with integrity and a compassionate heart. I am very fortunate to have come across his post in Craigslist. I know exactly What led me to him! And I just want to make that known to anyone else who needs some plumbing work done in Brooklyn and would like to deal with a real decent human being. Thanks a lot, Richard!

The best plumber experience I have ever had. Edited to drop a star. I'm sorry to harm the average but I feel I have to: Now that I've called Richard a couple more times, I have to say he never actually got his hands wet at our home. He takes my call or text and even will come over ... then accepts no payment for his time and recommends someone else. Generous and kind but not what you expect when you contact a plumber. If his B team were 100% great that would be okay--they're decent, but south of four stars. Not sure what aspect of plumbing Richard actually does.

I hired Scott and his team to replace a leaking lead water main, and overall, I'm impressed with…read morethe speed and quality of their work. Scott gave me a quote over the phone and coordinated the timing with alternate side street parking to make sure the street was clear. On the day of the job, a crew of 4 arrived with multiple trucks and took their time to determine that the water line curved to the side. They opened the street, the sidewalk, a hole in my front garden, and the basement. They dug the holes, found the original line underground, replaced it with copper, and had the entire site filled, covered, and swept clean by just after 2:00 PM. It's labor-intensive work and the crew was incredibly fast and clearly knew what they were doing. They didn't need anything from me other than basement access and worked straight through without issue. At the end of the day, one of the guys even helped me replant my lavender, which they had carefully removed in one piece earlier in the day to save it. While the technical work was excellent, the on-site experience was a bit stressful. Scott was not at the job site, though the crew was able to give me the updates I asked about, and one worker in the basement was visibly frustrated with cutting through the stone foundation. If you want the job done quickly and correctly, I highly recommend them. Just be prepared to be proactive about talking with the crew or asking for the supervisor if you need a clear play-by-play of the progress. This team will be my first call if any more work with water lines or sewers comes up.
