The absolute best part of Destrehan Animal Hospital is our veterinarian, Dr. Gina Goodier. She has handled our pets primary care, vaccines, dentals illnesses, and emergencies for many years and has always been amazing. She takes the time to understand and answer my concerns as a pet owner and thoroughly explains any medical problems as well as any lab results, treatment plans, and/or medications needed. Dr. Gina is an absolute ROCKSTAR in the veterinary community.

My 3 year old cat Chloe was throwing up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. She was not eating,…read moredrinking water or using the bathroom. She was lethargic and would not jump to lay in the window or get on the bed. She had eaten some of our rabbit Sparrow's hay. Some of it came up in her vomit. I was concerned that she had an intestinal blockage because of her throwing up and not going to the restroom. On Monday morning I went to her vet at Destrehan Animal Hospital at 8:00. I did not have an appointment but I was very concerned about Chloe's condition. My daughter and I were very upset. When I explained to the front desk what was going on with Chloe and asking if we could see the vet to get her checked they got her chart ready. I told them that I would not be able to pay today but on Wednesday when my husband's check comes in. I was called to a room where the office manager told me that the vet recommended that I go to either of these other vet offices. One was in Westwego and the other one in New Orleans because they do not do payment plans and the vet (Chloe's doctor) was busy with other patients. I was shocked! We have been taking our dog Daisy to Destrehan Animal Hospital for 13 years and our cat Chloe for 3 years yet her vet would not see her even though it is an emergency. I took Chloe to the vet in Westwego. They were shocked as well that her vet would not see her. This other vet had an office full of other patients to see and had surgery for his patients but agreed to take Chloe. They are keeping her possibly til Thursday. She has a fever and is dehydrated so she is getting fluids. They are watching her and running some tests to see what is going on with her. Dr. Carter would not even look at Chloe or take an x-ray of Chloe because she said it wouldn't show anything (not true!) but the vet at the office in Westwego took an x-ray and it shows a blockage and gas in her intestines. After leaving the vet I went to Destrehan Animal Hospital and got Daisy and Chloe's medical records and told them how upset I was that they refused to treat Chloe even though it was an emergency and she was their patient. I have ALWAYS paid for every visit and never had an issue. After 13 years of going there... I will NOT be going back! If they can't take care of their own patient during an emergency because of money and sent me to another vet they won't have either of my pets as patients. My cat is still at the vet hospital in Westwego and will probably have to have surgery because she still has not eaten or gone to the restroom since Friday. Dr. Carter's priority is money first then patient. Horrible!!

They came in and familiarized themselves with my guys and took them to their van where they spent time with the dogs so they would feel comfortable. The cuts were exactly as I wanted and the guys are really happy. They were professional and courteous.

The waiting room was comfortable with Nola flair and we saw several neat pets with their humans. Once in a room, our little guy was weighed and had an initial check. When the vet came in, he did a thorough check and was able to tell us the approximate age of buns and that he is a healthy hopper! They even trimmed and filed his nails during exam while answering all of our questions. We will definitely be bringing our baby back here for annuals and any other rabbit needs.

In my experience I check the cameras intermittently throughout the day and sometimes he is napping in the kennel other times he is out on the play yard living his best life. Just depends on the time of day you check, but I assure you they get plenty of play time and socialization. He normally sleeps good the next day because he plays so hard while there. They even post daily pics of the dogs to their facebook so if you miss your pets play times, you can be reassured there as well. The staff is also wonderful and are always happy to see him. I would not feel comfortable leaving him in anyone else's care.

From a little research and word of mouth I stumbled upon the rovervelt. I'm very hesitant on where I take the boys because I've had groomers go clipper happy before, but I've heard nothing but great things. From the moment I walked in everyone was absolutely amazing and super welcoming. I decided to add play time as well as have them groomed and it was the best decision. I dropped them off around 9am and picked them up around 530pm. The price was amazing for what they provide, coming from California I was used to paying $350 for both dogs just to get groomed, It felt like a crime leaving paying what I did! It was no where close to that, I would have been completely okay with paying more! That's how happy I am with The Rovervelt. 1. The boys look great 2. grinch feet -gone 3.butts cleaned up 4. they are so soft 5. they smell AMAZING, and last but not least 6. they are soooo tired! They have been asleep (besides to eat dinner -but I wouldn't want to sleep through dinner, so I don't blame them) since we got home. They told me they loved playing and they couldn't get them out of pool haha. We plan on returning weekly for full day play, monthly for grooming, and boarding with we go out of town. The issue was that throughout the time my dog developed fleas and was always an issue right after the grooming. They use a van to do the grooming. It was very difficult to get rid of the fleas since they get on your furniture and such. Well Avery stopped working for this company and we started with another grooming company. Intersting enough, no more flea issue. Can only guess that the source was the grooming van. There is no way that the company or groomer was able to "clean" or get rid of fleas between grooming stops. Just a word of caution

You said that if anyone wants to learn to loose leash walk their dog, we'd have to buy YOUR leather leashes.I asked why does it have to be leather? My leash was long enough. If you want to work with them by all means go ahead, but know that if you say anything about them in a negative light they will not let it go. The professionalism from this company is in question. Let's talk about unprofessional. If a pet owner, or doggy mom, has questions or concerns with a tool or technique you should explain it to them. Not kick them out of class, publicly embarrass them and in the process use unnecessary force to make a point on an animal that did NOTHING wrong at that time. The way i was treated tonight by these "trainers" has me astonished and ashamed. I should have done more research. I should have protected my baby. And i should have stood my ground and asked for help from the dozen witnesses to the assault that happened on my dog. Do not ask questions if you want to stay and work with these people. Do not show concern or empathy when they physically jerk your dog onto pavement to show you why you need a choke collar. And do not at any point try to ask why. There was no reason in the womans eyes. I was not meant to work with her and she was not meant to work with my baby. If you are looking to train a protection animal by all means the force she used should work. If you are trying to train your pet, your child, your partner, look else where.
