My poor Schnauzer no longer looks like one
    Michelle G.

I have used PetSmart locations all over the country to groom my Schnauzer pup for the past 12 years with no problems. Since I'm new in town, I decided to stick with what I've done before and found the PetSmart closest to me. I ended up going to the Metairie location and had a groomer named Gail. My dog has separation anxiety and she seemed impatient with her from the time she started whimpering when we walked in. To be fair, Lexie was acting more scared than usual this time, but acting short and mad with her is not going to help calm her down. We discussed what I wanted done (schnauzer face, trim her mustache, 10 blade shave for the body) and she seemed very skeptical that I knew what I was talking about. She consulted her computer and saw notes from previous groomings that said exactly what I had just said. She read it back to me (schnauzer face, trim mustache, 10 blade body) and I confirmed and left. When I got there to pick her up, I saw she had completely cut off my dog's beard! It looked TERRIBLE! There was also a long strand that she had missed! She no longer looks like a Schnauzer. Her beard doesn't grow (it has been the same length for the past 10 years with no trims). She is never going to look right again! Gail was already gone, so I couldn't even get answers as to why she had done this! We never talked about cutting off her beard. The store manager did comp my grooming, but that does not make this better in any way. I will NEVER use this place again and I hope everyone else stays away! If you do decide to use them DO NOT use Gail. She is terrible!

Disgusting location. Sadly it's only one of two we can get to. Nobody greets you nor pays attention to you. Dog Urine and feces on the floor and workers literally walking past it like they don't see it. Shelves are not stocked properly with cans on top of cans instead of nice and neat. Gross. I felt dirty just being in there.

I'm not sure what's up with all these bad reviews, but I've had nothing but good experiences at this location. Let me preface this by saying I live 5 minutes from the Harvey location and would rather drive across the river every month for services at the Metairie location. I have a husky and he gets the bath and brush with Furminator plus package. When we went to the Harvey location, they took 4 hours to groom him minimum. The first time I went, they also forgot to call me to tell me he was done and he had really bad separation anxiety at that point because he's a rescue pup. A few groomings in, I noticed he just really did not want to go back there. He'd get into the store and then plant his feet and really try to go back to the car. At that point, I took him to this Metairie location. We get the same package with Jennifer G every month and Saint ADORES her. He's excited when we pull up and he walks himself back to the grooming salon. Jennifer always finishes in about an hour to an hour and a half which is super impressive because he's a husky with husky fur and shedding. She also sends me pictures every month with a new bandanna against a themed backdrop and it's so stinking cute. I'm gonna have a calendar made. The groomings aren't cheap, but they're well worth it. We've also done training classes at this location. Saint picks up on tricks pretty quickly, but I had him registered as my ESA and wanted to sharpen up his skills in public with lots of distractions. He loved our trainer Stephanie. He was so excited to go to school every week and graduated their intermediate program. He was an angel in the airport. Going through TSA was a breeze and all the flight attendants loved him and said he was so well behaved.

Wonder when the last time this was cleaned...

Tonight when we went into get a fish there were several dead fish stuck in plans that look like they had been dead for days I know what this looks like because I've seen it firsthand as I've had fish all my life they don't take care of their aquatics at all they also have all of their reptiles in the way way way too small tanks!!!!!

Today I brought in my 14 year old terrier mix in for a grooming. I received a text message saying he was all done so I drove over to get him. When I'm in the store about to walk in I received a phone call asking if I wanted his tail trimmed. I said yes, but I had received a text message saying he was all done. The woman on the phone said "no he's not done, he's been hard to groom. Moving around too much." Which, put me off a little as I've never had anyone complain about grooming my dog. I walk over to the store beside petsmart to kill some time and about 20 minutes later I get the call that he's finished. I tell the person on the phone that I'll check out and head over, the person on the phone seems annoyed, but I ignore it. When I walk back over to pick up my dog Gail, the woman who groomed him says, "We won't be able to groom him anymore, he's too old and moves too much." This seems beyond rude to me and I tell her that won't be a problem, I'm never coming back here. She goes on to say it's not safe for him. He is deaf, which we had told her when we dropped him off. He cries like a deaf dog, which is a very annoying sound, but I think if you're in the business of caring for pets you should be more patient and understanding. I've been taking Okee to PetSmart for the past 7 years (not the veterans location, but others) and I've never heard anyone say anything other than how sweet he is. His haircut was so choppy. The bill came up to $70! I talked to the manager on the way out and she said Gail shouldn't have said that they can't groom him any more and that someone else could fix his hair, but there's no way I'll ever go back there. I don't feel as though the manager really cared that we had such a bad experience. As a paying customer I do not like to be treated as an inconvenience. Please do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. I've included a picture of his botched haircut.

My dog did not bite or has never bitten anyone or dog. If my dog is so bad, and aggressive, then why did she try to coax me to stay when I asked for my money back? Why didn't she tell me that my dog needed a muzzle, as per on her website . Saying aggressive dogs need a muzzle. Please read further for more. But I wrote this after her response to my review: .......In response to Jean's the owner's comment: Jean, 1st of all, Don't LIE. You said that if anyone wants to learn to loose leash walk their dog, we'd have to buy YOUR leather leashes.I asked why does it have to be leather? My leash was long enough. And you wouldn't give me an answer. You just said, "we'll take about that later. You even have it on your website that it has to be so long, so wide or else we have to buy yours. This is from your website: Dogs will be fitted with the correct leash and collar at time of registration The following items will not be permitted for use in the class: * Leashes that are too short, too wide or too narrow for the dog being trained * Choke chains that are too large or too long for the dog being trained * Pinch collars that are too heavy or too thin for the intended dog * Nylon leashes, nylon or buckle collars, and harnesses I DOGS WITHOUT PROPER EQUIPMENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR PROGRAM. Secondly, I wasn't aware that when a dog barks that it is "aggressive." If you think that's aggressive, then you have no business training dogs, because your assumptions and observations are way off! If my dog is so aggressive and a BOTHER TO OTHERS as you say, then WHY DID YOU TRY TO CONVINCE ME TO STAY? I'll tell you why.....You would have lost over $100 from me. Also, if my dog is so aggressive, then why didn't you tell me that she needs to wear a wired muzzle? (According to your website listed under the seminar section.) This is what it said: NOTE: * NO harnesses will be permitted for use once the Simanar gets underway. (Buckle collars can be used on smaller dogs with mild issues. Training equipment for everything else.) * Dog aggressive dogs may be required to wear a wire basket muzzle. Training equipment required. * People aggressive dogs will be required to wear a wire basket muzzle. Training equipment required. * Training equipment will be available for purchase during registration, or can be acquired ahead of time from most pet shops or feed stores. Jean, the fact that you tried to convince me to stay and that you didn't tell me that my dog needs a muzzle also shows me that she is not aggressive. Because a responsible trainer wouldn't let an aggressive dog near other people/dogs. I rest my case. As I've said in my review, I go to the dog park almost every day and my dog is NOT aggressive. In fact, she is submissive. She rolls over when she goes every time and she has NEVER bitten any dog or person or gotten into a dog fight. Yeah that's really aggressive.( sarcasm) I didn't see anyone complain to you or me about my dog. Your response tried to make me look like I deliberately was going around with my dog to other dogs. That was not the case. As per my review, I tried my best to keep my dog restrained. But it was like juggling with 1 hand trying to stand and fill out an application and restrain her. Also, don't try and blame your lack of organization of taking a whole hour to register people on me by saying that I caused a scene. You are using me for an excuse for you taking a whole hour to register people. When in fact, I "caused a scene" as you say, AFTER you took an hour to register people. And only then, because I had enough of your insults! Jean, the proof is in the pudding. I've noticed several other reviews complaining about your lack of organization and unprofessionalism too. So have you because you've responded negatively to them too. Sara C said you publically embarrassed her. Just like you humiliated me. She also said that you used unneccessary force on a dog. You jerked the dog on the pavement by the prong collar. Also, other people have reviews , Kim V and Inside L. So, i'm not the only one.

Let's talk about unprofessional. If a pet owner, or doggy mom, has questions or concerns with a tool or technique you should explain it to them. Not kick them out of class, publicly embarrass them and in the process use unnecessary force to make a point on an animal that did NOTHING wrong at that time. The way i was treated tonight by these "trainers" has me astonished and ashamed. I should have done more research. I should have protected my baby. And i should have stood my ground and asked for help from the dozen witnesses to the assault that happened on my dog. Do not ask questions if you want to stay and work with these people. Do not show concern or empathy when they physically jerk your dog onto pavement to show you why you need a choke collar. And do not at any point try to ask why. There was no reason in the womans eyes. I was not meant to work with her and she was not meant to work with my baby. I already had a dog, Bugg, who was not a fan of Maybelline and her lack of boundaries only compounded the situation- they couldn't be together without Maybelline running at Bugg and stepping over him (he's a tiny guy). I was determined to make this work so I reached out to ARNO and they connected me to Matt. We had a one hour training session and it was a great experience. Both dogs were comfortable with Matt from the get go. A lot was covered but the breakthrough for me was Matt's guidance in giving the dogs freedom to interact and allowing Bugg to "correct" Maybelline when she invaded his space/ignoring his cues of "I don't want to play, you are too close, give me space" so she couldn't learn. He gave specific recommendations for how much interaction to allow before separating the dogs and to limit face to face positioning. Matt helped me understand body language cues which eased my anxiety- it wasn't aggression on either end, just a case of one dog trying to say "stop annoying me" and the other dog being totally clueless. After that session I was able to relax and let them interact more without feeling like I had to be a helicopter. Soon the dogs were snoozing on the couch together and walking together without issue. We would have gotten here eventually without Matt's help but it would have taken so much longer and have been way more stressful than necessary. I added pictures to show our success :)
