This place is consistently a gamble, and this visit confirmed why. Multiple vegetables had visible mold on them, and the ginger looked old, dried out, and dusty - like it had been sitting for far too long. Even the "organic" section didn't inspire confidence and looked questionable at best. Noticeably better quality for organic at similar or lower prices at Aldi or Lidl. The worst part was the raspberries: every single one of the four containers I bought had mold growing in the bottom layers. That's not a minor quality issue - that's outright unacceptable for produce being sold for consumption. At that price point, it would have been more cost-effective to buy fewer, higher-quality containers at Whole Foods rather than four unusable ones Overall, the produce quality is extremely poor and freshness seems like an afterthought. Save yourself the time. Go to the one in Germantown on Greene Street. The workers are not helpful, rude, on duty but walks around with AirPods on. Asked the woman at the register about an item, she act like she didn't understand any form of English, nor tried to make sense of what I was saying. Flowers are about all I will buy from this location--the fruit doesn't hold up after a day so it is a waste of money to me! Definitely my least favorite of all the PJ's I shop.The parking situation can be stressful depending on when you stop by, and the flower situation is never really wonderful. I do get by when I decide to get my weekly bunches here instead of at WFM, which is done mostly for the sake of convenience. The flower variety is especially rough on holidays. Get there super early for the best, or any selection, actually. They do however have a decent variety of larger plants outside. On my most recent trip on Mother's Day weekend, I purchased a beautiful azalea bush and tropical plant, as well as scraped together some pre-cut flowers and tore apart some hydrangeas plants to make some lovely bouquets. Luckily for me I'm creative and wound up making beautiful, full bouquets to give, but others were truly struggling to gather enough blooms to make a semi decent presentation. The pickings were slim, to say the least. Produce is cheap, and just like at any PJ's, it must be eaten fairly quickly. The location mid-way between the burbs and the city, just a few turns off 76 make it convenient for many, and the main reason I'll continue to visit. They now accept credit cards, which is a huge relief as I never carry cash and the ATM fee was outrageous. Just ehh. The location in Glenside still remains my favorite, and they have the best flower selection of them all! read more

I find the value on flowers here to be amazing. I always get a good amount to make several fresh flower arrangements around my home for about $5 or less. They always have a wide assortment of flowers (sourced my wedding bouquet with some of their fall flowers) and seasonal items. They are selling little $1 white pumpkins as I type this. They take cards now too, which is definitely a plus. I can't speak on the produce, as I've never shopped here for food, but the line inside isn't that bad. Most times, they have a separate line for flowers that moves exceptionally fast or doesn't have anyone in it. Parking right in FRONT of the store is a bit of a mess, but I always park a little ways down in front of a house. I need the exercise anyway, and it's really not that far. read more

Just got back from produce junction after not going for years! What a place..I bought mangoes, limes, an orchid, bananas, cilantro and eggplant! What a great spot for amazing produce/flowers at great prices. They have a dozen roses for $6.00 which is amazing in vibrant colors of red, pink, peach and white..there is NO excuse for a man to not bring fresh flowers on a first date or simply as a nice treat for his lady especially at prices like that (sorry just went on a man bashing rant lol). The only draw back was the line and having to pay for certain items at certain areas. Some of the people were pretty rude cutting in front of me in line esp. the older ladies! The staff that I encountered were nice and quickly got the line moving. All the fruit and vegetables that I bought were fresh and taste amazing. Produce Quality/Price I love Produce Junction. Prices are great and so is the quality of the produce. The produce I buy from here lasts about half a week to a week longer than produce I buy from the regular grocery stores...So I can definitely tell it's very fresh! I've spent $11 on produce that'll last me for 2 weeks worth of meals. They only take cash, but there is an ATM conveniently located inside. There's usually a long line for the fruit and veggies, but it moves along fairly quickly. If you're like me and always need lemons and limes stocked in your fridge at all times, this is the place to get them. Can't beat a bag of 12 lemons for $2. I don't go anywhere else for those but here. Parking As for parking, this location does not have a parking lot, but there's free parking on the sides of the street it's located on. Produce Junction was a great find. I feel very fortunate to live so nearby! They have an incredible assortment of fruits and veggies for the best value I've ever seen - whole HoneyDew melons for $3.50, a sack (yes, sack!) of massive carrots for $2. It's truly amazing. They also have a really beautiful assortment of flowers and other plants for and equally incredible value. This is a wonderful place to pick your fresh vegetables. Keep in mind though, that this is not your standard grocery store where things are kept tidily in stacks, price coded, and ready to be scrutinized and picked up by the customers. There are some stacks here and there but for most of the vegetables you need to go and ask for at the counter. The prices are scribbled in a white-board close to the ceiling. You will not get a receipt for your purchase, and people at the counter add the prices up in their head. The variety is limited but enough for many of the daily cookings. The best deals are the produce that are in season. The out of season stuff will most likely be bagged, not the best of quality and probably more pricey. 2. Just like you don't want to go grocery shopping when hungry & without a list... try to know what you want before you enter this blackhole. I came in my first time and was completely overwhelmed by the plethora of choice. I was a kid in a candy store. Due to the great prices .. you might spend/buy more than you REALLY need/keep in your fridge reasonably (aka I ate broccoli and green beans for lunch & dinner for almost a week straight ...) What can I say?!? I love this place. Everything in bulk and reasonably priced..that won't rot on the ride home - can't beat that!! I went here recently for broccoli crowns and oh yes, STRAWBERRIES (since I'm on this protein shake kick now) and came outta there with lemons and sweet seedless grapes too! My two main qualms are the white chalkboard with the prices that, even though it's alphabetized, can be a little hard to read. You'll feel a little pressured if there's a long line. Plan ahead: BRING A LIST! Aaaand, they don't take credit or debit! C'mon now, I don't know of too many "cash only" establishments that still exist. I mean, this IS 2011. No, I don't wanna put my PIN number into the little ATM that's sitting over in the corner..AND pay a $2 fee! I just want my rutabaga!! Alas, this location is much better (and has fresher produce) than the PJ on Easton Road in Glenside and the A&N House of Produce (formerly Produce Junction) on Greene St in Germantown. If possible, definitely come here with a shopping companion, that way you can divide and conquer. Not only can the lines get long, but there are separate lines to purchase vegetables vs. fruit, so if you came by yourself, you'd have to stand in line to eventually pay for your vegetables, to then get into a new line, to then pay for your fruit. Some of the items are out, so you can pick through the bags yourself, and see the prices. They also have various produce behind the cashiers, to purchase once you get that close. The prices seem really good, we had just gone to Acme earlier that day, to buy grapes for $3/lb, vs. here, they had grades for $2 for 2lbs! All the produce seemed in decently fresh condition as well, we got home. I'm not sure if you're allowed to park in the few spaces next to the flowers area outside, but it's best to just park on the street, as the area can get quite jammed up. Another tip is to calculate how much you think your total will be ahead of time, just for your own reference. The cashiers dont use calculators nor any pricing reference chart (i.e., no list that says if its brussel sprouts, it'll cost X amount, etc). read more

This is the mecca for cheap produce! I don't get to go as often as I'd like bc of the location, and if they moved closer to me, I'd go almost nowhere else. You can get bags of apples, oranges, lemons, limes, etc for like $2 for 8 of em. They even sell flowers, potted plants, and holiday decorations! But before you go, you got to know the rules. Upon entering the store, you will hit the flowers/potted plants/holiday decor section first. Then towards the back right is the veggie section. The back left is the fruit section. There is a designated cashier/check out for each section, like if you want to buy coconuts, you have to pay the guy behind the fruit cashing counter - if you go over to the veggie section with your fruit, they'll send you over to the fruit counter, and you'll have wasted that precious minute standing in line. Also, bring cash. No credit cards, but I have seen ppl use the EBT card here. read more

This market has high quality produce and plants at rock bottom prices. Today, lavender plants are 3 for $7, tomato plants are 6 for $2, and hydrangeas are 3 for $25. Pay for plants outside. Once you walk in the front door, the right side has the vegetables and the left side has the fruit. You can select items on the main floor, but there are more items behind the cashier. Today I purchased blueberries at $1.50 a pint! Greens are usually $2 - $3 a bag. What a steal! Only downsides would be limited parking and inability to pick your produce. When I was a kid there was always so much produce in the house, I just took it for granted...and then I went to college and nobody warned me that one avocado cost more than my T ride to school...so for the past four years, I have been fairly low on the vitamins...Enter Produce Junction... The produce here is cheaper than the produce at Asian supermarkets. The savings are OOC (out of control)!! The quality is definitely better than the local pathmark and some of the vegetables mirror the quality of those at Wholefoods for sure...(I'm not a huge believer in Organic). We walked out of there with 3 bags full of bananas, avocados, blackberries, asparagus, red peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, lemons, flowers, and more for less than $20. Its probably cheaper to rent a zipcar and get your tush out to Wynnewood than it is to buy produce at your local superstore. read more

This place is truly AMAZING. However, I am only speaking based on the flowers. I purchased a bouquet of flowers for a mere $3 for a fun floral arrangement for my tiny apartment, and it truly brightens up the entire room. It is over a week later and the flowers are still going strong. This is a great place to buy super-cheap fruits and veggies. I honestly prefer the quality of produce here to Trader Joe's most times. And for many items, it's around half the price. The produce is riper (meaning that it does go bad more quickly), but it tastes fresher. For example, the pears I buy from Trader Joe's or other grocery stores never seem to get as ripe or soft as they do from Produce Junction. Maybe because I'm impatient and I want to eat the pears a day or two after I get them, but I do think they are better at PJ. The one drawback is that you can't see what you're getting if it's an item located behind the counter. The trick is to be very friendly and ask the cashier to pick out a good bag for you. This is particularly true with the peppers. Most times, the orange and yellow peppers are somewhat soft, so you have to make sure to get a good bag. read more

I only wish they were open later (I think they close at 4 or 5ish PM). I especially love the selection of "unusual" produce that are hard to find in conventional groceries. Everyone around knows that this is the best place to get fruits and veggies, so expect crowds especially over the weekend. I recently went to the Produce Junction to pick up some vegetables and fruit for the Holiday. I used to like Produce Junction but when I brought my fruit this time itt didn't even last that long to enjoy. The pear was the worst turning brown and with all the indents. And the tangerines was turning molded. I brought potatoes for my potato salad and I couldn't make a big pan of potato salad because some of the potatoes was molded in the bag I tried to get the best bag that I could find but it was hard to do. I had to take the potatoes all the back because I found out that it was too much molded potatoes in the bag. So I returned to bag after putting everything else in my car and picked up another bag and I did check it but once I got home and was ready to make my salad I had to throw half of them away because they wasn't good thank God I had couple of potatoes on hand to make a half a pan of potato salad. I don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon. I start going to the fruit truck near my house but I was at work and decided go to the Produce Junction. So we couldn't the fruit. this is what it look like. They need a security guards at the door this is crazy what is this world coming to. And also make sure you count your items or what you purchased because some of the ladies behind the counter don't know how to count so you got to keep up on what you put in your cart or what you're buying and total it up yourself and see what they come up with.
