When I went in for my wisdom tooth removal they were fine but not excellent. when i went in to get it checked it was good. now when i called today I got the worst service ever. I had to call five times today to even get a response. I called before they closed at 3 PM today. Never got a response. They also never told any of their clients that they were be closed at three today. It took about four hours for me to get a response and when I did, it was from the on-call doctor and he basically told me to call back Monday instead of answering any of my concerns and I'm worried about a dry socket. I think that should be taken care of before Monday. or at least actually answer my questions. read more

They are often late, ruff in your mouth and did not let me know what portion I owed until after an appointment that insurance didn't cover. They pretended to be concerned knowing financial strain. The 2 stars are for the dentists, the missing stars for the way they handled my account! Make sure you discuss the bills with them and do not take their word for granted; otherwise, you will get a statement in the mail after 6 months saying you owe them money! I have received a bill saying I need to pay a considerable amount of money when they told me this was going to be paid by the insurance (that was supposed to be dealt with by the insurance and ProDental). I would have never done the treatment had I known it would all come out of my pocket. I received a fantastic medical treatment there, but I need to make sure that folks know what to expect. read more

The actual dental work I've received here was good and I liked my dentist, but I got a call saying they had to reschedule my appointment on March 9th (which I originally made 6 months ago) and they couldn't see me again till June. Emergencies come up which I get, but it is a poor business practice to delay your customers 3 months because of issues on your end. They had put 2 beautiful bridges in my upper teeth about 10yrs ago . FF to now and I seem to be having a issue with one. I don't know if something is stuck under or is infected. I wake up 06/20/22 and call to see if there is anyway I could get in to be seen my jaw was swollen like I had a golf ball in it. I have been going to ProDental for years and have had off and on good/bad care. The Dentist do change often and they can not keep hygienist. My appointments have been moved or cancelled and this last time was it. I waited for 3 months for a cleaning, got a call 4 days before telling me the office was going to be closed on my appointment, and they moved me back to the end of NOV? another 4 months. The last time I got my teeth cleaned they had water all over me, the girl was talking on her headset and telling people what to do as she stopped and started cleaning my teeth? The doctor never came in after 15 mins so she just let me go! VERY VERY unprofessional. I ask about why they were changing my appointment 4 months later - they told me all hygienist had quite, they had only 1!!!!!!! Even remembering this experience to write the review makes me mad. I needed a filling replaced and when I scheduled the appointment I made sure to tell the person I was on the phone with that I wanted an appointment long enough to take care of everything, any initial check-up and the filling itself. He said that would not be a problem. When I got there I had x-rays and the hygienist poked around, nothing I didn't expect. Then they said they would require a cleaning if I wanted the filling fixed (I had one a few months previous at my regular dentist) and I would need a deep gum cleaning (My gums were just given a clean bill of health). I insisted that all I really needed was the filling to be repaired so they relented and told me I could wait for the dentist. I waited almost 40 minutes! When he came in he stuck one finger in my mouth, mumbled a couple of things, was quickly corrected on something by the hygienist, then said he didn't have time and left (this dentist was rather old, not the one mentioned in the other review). I was so mad that I had the x-rays they took sent to my dentist in California and waited over a month to have the filling fixed while I was home during Thanksgiving week. I could be bleeding from the mouth with two teeth left and I would take a flight home rather than go back to this place. read more

So, I had a really nice dentist in California, and I would not have changed except that I moved to Columbia, and really there was no choice. This office is out stadium, past old 63, by the movie theater. The office has several dentists, and I saw Dr. Boyd on three occasions now. He is a younger guy, and he is very professional. He is friendly, efficient, and explains everything he is doing. The entire office is very professional. All of the equipment is brand new. They use an oral cancer screen that many offices have not incorporated into check-ups yet. There are a number of workstations separated by partial walls and cabinets. The office is very open, and for me, this makes it more comfortable. Also, they are well-staffed, with numerous friendly people assisting the doctors and hygienists. I have been to Prodental for almost one year. My previous dentist was lax about how my crowns fit, and gave up after 2 tries of making them fit. At ProDental, Dr. Jones has been amazing! I just don't get the 1-star review. Dentists don't come and go from Prodental. They've had the same 2 dentists for years and years. I went to Dr. Mahlin and he and his staff are excellent. Really. I've had all my general dentistry, wisdom teeth removal, and a dental implant done here and have nothing but great things to say. My hygienist was gentle and thorough, and I never felt pressured to buy anything I wasn't interested in. Dr. Mahlin always takes the time to talk with you, explain any procedure, or answer any questions you may have. I never felt rushed through my appointment, or like I was just a paycheck. The receptionists are kind and explain any questions you might have about billing. Yes, they are priced a bit higher than other dentists, and sometimes I got annoyed with all of the appointment reminders, but I think they run a good dental practice and would easily recommend them. read more

I had been with ProDental for a few months after switching from my long-time dentist after needing to change insurance companies because of a change in employment. Then my front tooth collapsed and broke off. ProDental basically had to build a new tooth for me. They made me a temporary that broke off almost instantly the minute I left their building. Instead of regluing it, they handed me a tube of superglue and told me to glue it on myself, which didn't work, so I wound up looking like a jack-o-lantern for a few days until they could redo it. Then, a few weeks later, when the permanent replacement tooth came in, they showed it to me, and it looked OK under their lighting, so I approved the dentist installing it. However, as soon as I got home in regular lighting, I could tell the color wasn't right. In addition, the tooth sticks out and is a little too long, like a "buck" tooth. When I asked whether they could whiten my other teeth to match it or somehow fix the new tooth to better match my other teeth, at first the dentist said he could whiten my other teeth and put a veneer on the one next to it, but then chickened out when it came time to doing the work a month later. Of course, this gutless dentist did not contact me himself about it; he sent a flunky to tell me instead. She called and told me that the dentist had concerns about the veneer weakening my other tooth and the pain that would be endured by trying to whiten my other teeth because of exposed roots. She told me that he recommended me going to a "cosmetic dentist." I had never heard of such a thing and asked if they could refer me to someone. She told me they couldn't refer me to anybody, but she would Google it! Well hell, I responded, I can Google it myself! I could not believe how unprofessional this wuss was about the situation. Recently, I obtained a second opinion from another dentist, and he told me that the guy should have known by looking through his special dental eyegoggles that the color wasn't right. He suspected that the ProDental dentist had given me a line to get rid of me because he didn't want to be bothered with fixing the problem. I would never recommend Prodental to anyone. I spent thousands of dollars on Invisalign for the Express treatment and they couldn't even get my teeth straight. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and let them put some clear traditional braces on me.They couldn't even keep some of the brackets on my teeth and they didn't even straighten my teeth. I am so mad. They took the braces off finally and they yanked my teeth so hard they moved and then they took an impression of my teeth, but did it in such a poor fashion that the impression was not pushed hard enough into my mouth. My retainer barely stays in my mouth because it's so loose. I can't believe I was so stupid to go to this place. They even damaged my teeth/gums because they look worse than they did before I went there. They also filed my teeth down because one of my teeth was longer than the other after the braces and they were uneven and still crooked. Don't ever go to this fast-food style dental establishment. They are scammers because they always want you to pay for unnecessary treatments and they can't even fix a mild case of crooked teeth. A coworker of mine has as many bad things to say about them as I do. They botched some work on her and gave her an infection so bad that she refused to go back to them. She had to argue with them on the phone because they used all of her dental benefits so she had to pay a bunch out of pocket when she went to a specialist to get her teeth fixed. Now if I want to get my teeth fixed it will cost me another couple of thousand dollars; I'm so excited to throw that much more money into my teeth. I really don't like to be a party-pooper, but when I read Michael S's review, I had to add my 2 cents. I also called them up and got an appointment to get my teeth cleaned -- or so I thought. I also got x-rays, which my hygenist said would be covered by my insurance, even though I told her I already had met my allotted annual x-ray quota from my insurance, and I she said they wouldn't charge me -- or so I thought. It just gets better from here. Over the phone they were very nice. They even asked what I liked and didn't like about my last dentist. I told them the best thing was that they were very understanding some x-rays that my insurance wouldn't cover, and they didn't charge me. That was nice, I told them. After I arrived, I was lead to my booth, which, by the way, reminded me of an assembly line, but, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and said they must just be really efficient. My hygienist came in, she looked right out of hygienist school, and gave me the traditional pokes in the gums to measure the pockets. After this she left and tried to give me some x-rays, but I told her that my insurance wouldn't cover them. She insisted they would, and I told her that this _exact_ thing happened at my last dentist, and my insurance didn't cover them because I'm only covered for 2 side-mouth x-rays per annum, to use the insurance lingo. She left to check, and came back to say that they would be covered. I relented. At the worst, I would explain to the billing what she just told me. X-rays taken, the dentist herself, a very down-to-earth lady (her name was Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones, they took the crystal statue!!) -- and she is the sole reason I don't have totally bad memories about the place -- sat down and evaluated my x-rays and my teeth. She said that they were in very good shape, but maybe she was just saying that. At any rate, after a little chit-chat, she left. Back to the hygienist. She told me to make another appointment and that she would finish with my cleaning, and that I would probably need a deep cleaning. I didn't have the faintist idea what she was talking about, but I just nodded my head, thinking, if I can just get out of here, I would never step foot in here again. She led me to accounting. Yes, accounting. They have a separate _line of desks_ for paying your bill (remember, assembly line), and when I got there, I was pitched so many things I wish I had a catcher's mitt. I was told I need some ultrasonic thing, I was told I needed the deep cleaning, and I told them I wasn't sure if my insurance would cover them, and I would call them back to make an appointment (just get out of here!). They didn't let me go that easily. The accountant-receptionist told me that if I didn't get the deep cleaning that my teeth would only get worse (was she in the booth with me and the hygienist?) and I told her no thanks and she got my hygienist and she brought a _piece of paper_ that I had to sign saying that I was refusing treatment. Is this getting weird or have I just been living in a cave for the past many moons? I signed the thing, said thanks again, and left. Then things got interesting. I did a little research on deep cleaning, checked with the ADA, my insurance, and my old dentist office. All of them said that deep cleaning was indicated (insurance lingo again) when the pockets (more lingo, it's how deep the recess is between your gums and teeth) were 5 cm or bigger. I had only 4 cm pockets, and my old hygienist said that that was an improvement. These folks were diagnosing me with gingivitis when I only had pre-gingivitis at worst, and then they were trying to make money off of me, it seemed. Maybe it was just a mistake. So then I get a bill from them for the x-rays. I call back explaining what I had told the hygienist, and they told me they had no record of what she had said. I asked to talk to someone in charge, and she told me to hold on, and then she got back to me and told me that the charges had been dropped. So much for that. Then I read about Michael S's experience, with the same deep-cleaning pitch, and it just seemed unreal. I would go into this place with a lawyer and patient advocate, and have your insurance's phone number handy. read more

I have been going to Pro Dental for years and I am there every two months because I have invisalign braces. I have had top notch care. I see Dr. Malin and he's an angel. I am known by name and I never wait. I am always greeted by a smile and despite the fact the clinic is a decent size they always keep me with all the same assistants. It is always speedy care and yet I leave feeling like I had thorough care. As to the two above poor reviews take note that they sound CHEAP!!!! I don't know about you but I do not want an shortcuts when it comes to my oral health. I am more than willing to trust what my dentist says I need when it comes to my mouth. The staff is friendly, and the facility is nice, but my family has had a horrible time with ProDental and their billing department. My husband has had thousands of dollars worth of dental work in the last two years, and has had primary and secondary dental insurance through his and my employer. ProDental is constantly delaying filing to insurance, not forthcoming about the medical necessity/projected insurance payouts for procedures, and will not get back to you in a timely manner when you call to inquire the status of your account. In a couple cases ProDental waited over 6 MONTHS to file procedures to the primary insurance, and we had to call and beg multiple times to get them to file to the secondary. When we asked for a final total on our account, months after we had received any dental work, we were quoted one total and billed for another. The bill was for over $2,000, including a procedure from last year that has STILL not been filed to our secondary insurance. In the past 2 years, they have also had some turnover in providers, if that matters to you. Again, the office staff is pleasant, and are able to schedule you for appointments quickly, but as far as the back end and getting your care paid for, it has been quite a burden for us. I recommend if you visit ProDental, refuse any treatment until you have spoken with your insurance. read more

I really couldn't resist writing this review. I moved out of Missouri 2 years back and I get a bill this month to Missouri Address about balance payment threatening to go for collection agency!! Fortunately I got notified by my friend in Missouri about the letter. Asked about this, all they say is "we also tried to contact you through phone, but u never responded", a big LIE!! I found the staff to be very friendly and professional. I had broken off part of an old crown, I called on Monday and I got an appointment for the next day. I wasn't in any pain or I would have been seen that day. While the experience itself is not pleasant I was not in any pain. The dentist made sure I was doing ok thru the procedure. I scheduled a cleaning month ago to ensure that I had a white smile for my wedding. I went to the appt., and they asked upon my arrival if my insurance was still the same. It has been for 2 years, and I was seen at Prodental last year, several times, so it should have all been correct. I got to the chair, they took x-rays (which is fine since I hadn't been there in about a year), then, they tell me that I need lots of work done, and also, they don't have my insurance 'loaded' so they need to look at my card again. I was ushered to a room where a woman tried to have me sign a treatment plan for $1200 worth of dental work. I refused, because all I currently need is a cleaning, and I told her that I plan to get more work done later when my insurance is better, but wanted to wait until then to decide. She responded that I have the right to have any treatment that I want, and I should 'be happy because they got my cleaning done for me', which they did NOT do. She then proceeds to tell me that she called me the week before to tell me that my insurance wasn't 'loaded'. I told her that the only call I received from them all week was the appt confirmation. Her reaction was to give me a lecture on oral hygiene. At last I told her that I had to leave, because I was confused and upset, and didn't want to cause a scene. She finally tells me that my insurance is 'loaded' in the system now, but that it is terrible insurance and it won't cover much, but they can schedule me a cleaning if I want, for 2 months from now. Unfortunately, my terrible insurance only covers Prodental, and I'm not going to get married in July with coffee stained teeth. So I scheduled a cleaning, after spending an afternoon away from work, only to have to go back one more time. Hopefully it will be the last time I ever have to go here. Edit on 5/3/17: Two fillings that were done at the same time in 2014 just fell out within 3 days of each other!!! I have fillings that are over 15 years old from other dentists that look and feel perfect, but the ones done at Prodental had started to get rough around the edges and developed ugly stains underneath that I could not brush off. Now I've got 2 missing fillings at the same time, not 5 years after they were put in by this scam of a business. Also, I've noticed that every bill I receive from them is somehow 30-60 days 'past due,' even though it is the first bill received for the treatment, and it's sent to me months after the treatment is done. Negative 2 stars. This is my first time EVER getting online to write a review about any type of service that I've experienced. I had such a bad experience that I just thought everyone who is considering going to ProDental in Columbia, MO should know what they're getting into. When I first made my appointment, it sounded like a great deal because they were going to give me an $89 coupon for cleaning + exam, which is a great deal for a student. Now I know that they just wanted to bring me in so they could give me a sales pitch and force me into procedures that I didn't want and couldn't afford. The first thing that happened when I got in the dentist's chair was that they made me put metal prongs in my mouth to take pictures of my teeth, and then put the pictures on big screens. This was extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing since I haven't been able to afford to get braces, and the whole time I was wondering why we had to do this step. Then my hygenist took about 20+ x-rays of my teeth, which I thought was unnecessary since I told her that I had just had x-rays taken at my old dentist's office (who I never should have left!!!!) in St. Louis a few months back and everything was fine. They poked around my mouth for a while and then told me that I needed a deep cleaning. I said, sorry, I can't afford a deep cleaning today even if I needed one, and I really just came in for a regular cleaning... so could I please just get a regular cleaning like how I usually get every year at any other dentist's office? They brought out their "financial counselor" who was a really pushy woman and tried to force me into this procedure even though I didn't want it and couldn't afford it. She was really rude and didn't listen to me at all, just repeatedly saying that the deep cleaning was "the best medical decision for me." I told them again that, as a student, I wasn't ready to make a $1000 financial decision on the spot. They were going to refuse to give me a regular cleaning at all just because I said I didn't want the deep cleaning. Finally I convinced them to do a regular cleaning and my hygenist did a half-hearted job and barely cleaned anything just because I didn't go along with their plan. The dentist then came out and hardly looked at my teeth at all. He just saw the pictures of my crooked teeth on the screen and said that I needed braces really badly. DUH!!! I already knew that... no need to put down my self esteem AGAIN. They also made me sit and watch a 10 minute Invisalign video, which I had already seen 2x before. I came out of there feeling like I had been majorly gypped and feeling crappy about my teeth. All because ProDental CARES MORE ABOUT SELLING THEIR PRODUCTS & PROCEDURES THAN CARING FOR THEIR PATIENTS AND LISTENING TO THEIR NEEDS!!!!!!!!!! GOOD PATIENT CARE ISN'T ABOUT FORCING YOUR PATIENTS INTO A FINANCIAL DECISION THAT THEY'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH, IT'S ABOUT WORKING WITH THEM TO FIND A TREATMENT PLAN THAT FITS THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES. Literally the worst experience I have ever had in any healthcare setting. The issue I have been grappling with involves the front desk. If you have an insurance policy that they are unfamiliar with, it is my experience that they will not be able to appropriately bill you. I have been waiting for a billing issue to be resolved since Nov. 19th and I have been appalled by the lack of compassion, empathy, and justice the front desk holds. Today I went in to talk to the front desk in person so that they could connect a face to the situation and understand that it is my intention to remain a loyal customer to ProDental. During my explanations and attempts to understand the billing process I was endlessly interrupted and talked down to in the middle of the waiting room. The woman I was speaking to consistently cut me off by stating, "What do you want me to do about it?" I am a grad student working towards a degree in Occupational Therapy. I will be working in the healthcare setting in less than one month. I will NEVER treat my future clients with the disrespect that I was met with today. Disgraceful. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This place TORTURED me. I went in for a pain in my tooth and at first it took them 4 tries to get a good X-ray of it. So 4 times in a row I had to have that incredibly uncomfortable plastic thing in my mouth. They finally told me I would need a root canal. So I made an appointment to come back and get it done and the insurance lady told me that it would be covered by my insurance. So I came back and they did more x-rays, once again taking multiple tries to get it. Then they began to do the root canal. Once they "finished" they told me I would have to come back again because it wasn't filled in properly (and apparently they don't have time to do things right the first time). So I had to come back again! and essentially have another root canal. Then they sent away a mold for a crown and I had to wait a few weeks for it. When they finally got it back, it was made completely wrong and didn't fit at all. So they sent away for another. Once again, it didn't fit. So they sent away for another! Which finally fit right. So I had to come to this place 5 TIMES In order for them to do it right! AND MY INSURANCE DIDN'T COVER IT LIKE THEY SAID IT WOULD BECAUSE THERE "WASN'T ENOUGH EVIDENCE" THAT I EVEN NEEDED A ROOT CANAL! So now I'm left with a massive bill and an extreme hatred for this place. Don't go here, you're better off some place else read more

Then as others have mentioned I get bled for all my insurance can pay and more for things that aren't even a problem. It is like taking your teeth to a used car salesman! Then they have not submitted insurance and even upon checking with my insurance insist that I pay money for a claim that is not even submitted. They also claim to check insurance coverage and do not. I had almost the same experience as Michael S. and Rhett. I wanted a cleaning / check up. I got there and they went about giving x-rays and poking and said I need a deep cleaning which would cost almost $2000 out of pocket to do and I could not get a cleaning because that was just silly and what I really needed was the deep cleaning. They kept pressuring for me to schedule the deep cleaning and pushing me to buy a sonic care tooth brush. I only talked with the Dentist for maybe 5 minutes out of the 2.5-3 hours I was there. Pro Dental is a chop shop of dentistry. Do not use them and if you do find a real dentist. I don't know if the other reviewers on here that gave 5 stars work there or are family but believe me this place doesn't care about anything except milking money from you. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would!! I have been coming here for about three years. In that time they have had three different Dentists!! I had a cavity filled in December but it was filled too close to the nerve so I had to go back and have a root canal. I've had problems with the root canal ever since. I've been on three different antibiotics to clear the infection and was referred to an endodontist for a retreat. When I asked Prodental if they covered any cost of the retreat The Dentist told me, "If you have surgery by a surgeon and something goes wrong they don't fix it for free"!! The Dentist's temporary fix was to shave down the tooth because my bite was high. It was high because my gum was infected!! Obviously I told him no. I've had five other root canals (I have bad teeth) and I haven't had any problems with any of them. The only positive thing I can say is the dental hygienists are all very nice. I would recommend Pro Dental. I had a very pleasant experience with an appointment I made to get my teeth cleaned. The dental hygenist was very friendly and thorough. She explained the entire process to me and listened intently to my explanations about my situation. The dentist, Dr. Mahlin, was wonderful. He took the time to talk with me before and after checking my teeth. I liked the professional atmosphere, although the very open cubes were interesting. Excellent experience.The dentist Dr.Elkady was very nice,thorough,explained to me in details and simple language my dental plan.I read some of the reviews here and I am really surprised that clients are complaining of their insurance not being downloaded ,the doctor requesting x-rays and the doctor giving them an estimated plan of 2000$.How is this the office's or the dentist's fault.The dentist gives you her recommendation and you are free to follow them or not.And she will work with you on prioritizing and doing what makes you happy.I agree its alot of money and I don't like it when I hear a 2000$ worth of dental work.But I get mad at my insurance,the health care system that does not cover dental work.It is not fair to get mad at the dentist who is simply trying to do her job.Or at the staff that are trying to please you! Just be nice people ,don't take your anger out on people who try to help you and don't abuse them just because they are trying their best to satisfy their patients! read more

Worst place ever. Reception staff rude, rude, rude. Dental hygienists were aweful. Wanted full payment before procedure was done. Didn't bill insurance until after procedure. Tried to get payment twice by running credit card through several times. Do not use this place!!!! Will never go back!! read more

Went in for my first visit - I just wanted a cleaning - and said I had to have X-rays (something like 10 pics) I told them I didn't want it but they wouldn't treat me unless I had them taken. So I agreed. Then they examined my teeth and said I had gum disease and some cavities and generally tried to scare me about my teeth without much explanation of to what was going on. Then the dentist finally came in and talked to me for about 5 minutes making me feel guilty and scared about my teeth, and he could hardly look me in my eye. Next the front desk ladies came in and tossed around a bunch of numbers something like $2000 for all the work they said I needed. I told them I would think about it and then they said I was down and they haven t done the cleaning yet. So, I ask them about the cleaning of my teeth and they said they don t normally don t that with the type of cleaning I needed, but I protested and they did finally do the cleaning of my teeth - which is why I went there in the first place. To make a long story short my teeth are fine and I think they are just trying to scare people into expensive services so they can make money, I don t think they really care about there patients. I would recommend a different dentist. read more

Had an appointment at 8 am but I was running a few minutes late (between 5 and 10 minutes late). Sat in the office for at least 5 more minutes before the recieptionist told me the hygenist wanted to reschedule. I don't know what the standard is for how late you are before being rescheduled but it seemed odd (no one else was in the waiting room but me). I don't know how many times I've waited for appointments at the dentist office and they can't give me 10 minutes. But then I had a question about my dental routine, so the receiptionist got the hygenist to come out and speak with me. When she came out she just stared at me (no hello, how ya been). After she was done answering my question she just promptly turned her back and walked away. No "sorry we couldn't get you in today", no smile, no "did you have any other questions". I left with the impression she was irked at me for being late. It really bothers me because the last time I was there she was really nice and helpful but now I don't know what to think about her. If you are being paid for a professional service then you can't act so dismissive of your patients . . just slap a smile on. I was getting a routine maintenance instead of full blown deep cleaning, I think if it was the latter I would not have been bumped read more
