I've had my Subaru Forester for 15+ years, first in Baton Rouge, where I purchased the vehicle. Now, for almost 4 years, I have had the car serviced at Proctor Subaru. The whole experience with the Service Department has been really nice and commendable. I have been able to keep the Forester running, and in shape to make extended out-of-town trips and conduct field work as a biologist until recently. I have had Billy Swindell as my main liaison for most of that time. Billy has always been one of the most courteous people I have interacted with at Proctor Subaru, and he has taken time to answer my questions and explain needed repairs. The regular servicing has saved me from problems that might otherwise happen at an inconvenient time. Recently, Michael has helped me a lot as well, as the Forester entered the great beyond. I also want to mention that the ability to obtain loaner cars while my car has been in the shop has greatly helped me maintain my normal life, and I really appreciate that courtesy. I brought my 2006 Subaru Outback into Proctor Subaru on 6/27/2023 to have 4 things looked at & fixed & not to go over $400. #1--AC needs charging #2-drivers window electric motor burned out #3-cruise control not working #4-horn not working (I'd already tried replacing fuse & still not working). Several hrs later a different guy shows me a video that when someone steps on brakes, brake fluid is spraying out. When I asked him what had they done to my car bc I wasn't having any prior brake problems, nor had I asked them to look at them, he wouldn't answer me. But he did say it was going to cost me $2,000 to get them fixed! WHAT!!!??? Again I asked why was anyone working on my brakes bc I've NEVER had ANY problems & he never would answer me. Then he tells me he can't let me drive my car & finally when he understands that I AM driving my car home bc I can't afford $2,000. read more

Recently took my Subaru to Proctor for repair, and I'm not a happy camper. Repair cost actually almost doubled from what I was quoted initially. Repair was suppose to take 2 days, but didn't get my car back for 9 days. Some parts were marked up 100% from their advertised price directly from Subaru. And to add insult to injury, the same issue I asked to have repaired just stopped working less than a week later there supposed repair. I would not recommend Proctor Subaru's repair department to friends or family. I will never use them again. We went twice already to service our Subaru. Today, especially, we got five star customer service from Billy Swinvell who was very kind, calm, profesional and patient and general great customer service from the rest of the staff. Billy took the time to bring the mechanic all the way to the front lobby area to talk to us. The bathrooms were really clean and were stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, nice soap and sanitizer like God intended. The only thing we thought it was a bit off was that the nice guy who sells accessories and it's in charge of explaining how your Subaru works, told us he had to run to lunch in the middle of our conversation. We wanted to get a few accessories - not a big deal - ended up just getting all weather mats with Billy but to the other guy: you DON'T tell a nice customer in the middle of a conversation that you have to go to lunch. In March 2022, Proctor Subaru, Tallahassee, did $1,226.22 of work on my car without authorization and that work included replacing a healthy battery, doing work I expressly told them not to do, and grossly overcharging me for things both big and small, often charging twice as much as other vendors within 5 miles. I filed a negative review about my Proctor experience on the DealerRater website. Proctor Subaru responded as follows: "Mrs. Flagg, your service consultant, Billy Swindell, and our Service Director, Don Monda, have both tried several times to reach you. They have left several messages." That is a blatant, juvenile lie. My phone records clearly show that the only phone calls I received from Proctor were five rings with hang ups and one message left by Swindell. I filed a similar complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Proctor began their response to BBB with another easily disproved falsehood: "...be advised we have mailed this response certified mail dated 3.17.2022." I have received no mail from Proctor, certified or otherwise, except a computer generated survey form. When I challenged Proctor's lies, they responded by doubling down on their specious deceptions. On 4/4/22, Proctor wrote "We have been trying to call and email Mrs. Flagg to help her and she will not answer or respond." I'm sorry, but that is pure hogwash!!! My phone records easily, and completely, disprove the "trying to call" part. The only email I have received from Proctor is a computer-generated survey form so there can be no record of these non-existent emails Proctor has invented. On April 12, Proctor closed out the BBB file using the oldest, most pathetic attempt at deceit in the book: "This check has been mailed." The check is in the mail? Really? Gee, I was afraid maybe the dog ate it. Proctor didn't even try to actually communicate; they just threw out garbage hoping to gaslight and distract. Every single piece of correspondence from Proctor featured at least one egregious, stupefyingly flagrant lie. Every single piece, including the original invoice they gave me at the time of the service. In my opinion, any organization that can lie that often and easily is corrupt and dishonest. Proctor has had 100 years to create a facade of customer service, but it is a sham and a hoax, based on lies. The Proctor Dealerships (Honda, Acura, and Subaru) is a small family-owned business with a small management staff. Because the company is a multi-million-dollar operation and has been in business and run by the same family for more than 100 years, I think it is reasonable to assume that the Proctors know exactly what they are doing and exactly what their employees are doing. My goal is to provide the Proctor Dealership with the opportunity to stand behind and defend the statements they made. When they can't ( and they can't) then everyone will know what a sleazy, low-rent and disgustingly arrogant organization they run. I have filed multiple complaints with state agencies that will be asking questions. My ultimate step will be to file suit in small claims court where Proctor can explain why they have no proofs. Proctor wrote lies they knew not to be true and that were derogatory to me, then they published those lies in a public forum. That is a textbook definition of libel and I am researching what legal recourses I have to make Proctor retract those harmful statements. read more

Made an appointment weeks ago and appreciated the email / phone reminders that came within a few days of the appointment. Staff was prompt and service on point. Waiting area was comfortable and they also have a shuttle service which I didn't participate in, but saw them coordinating with other customers. The car buying experience dreams are made of. I've never bought a car from a dealership before, but I have shopped around at plenty and this was a top choice in customer service. The lot is really small but they ordered the exact car I wanted without a fuss. Buying my car was super easy and convenient and I wasn't treated like a girl buying a car (if you know what I mean). After I bought the car, the salesman took some time to answer my questions and show me all the buttons on the control panel. Then.... a week or so later I got a tin of cookies from the dealership!! After being ignored by the one in Fort Walton Beach, and completely trying to be scammed by the one in Pensacola ($29,000 out the door for a Crosstrek marked $23,200, then getting snotty at me when I asked how they up the price nearly half the price of the car) I wound up at Proctor. My salesman, Abel, was amazing, he sat me down and we ordered the exact car I wanted, and I was able to drive away with a better Crosstrek than Pensacola was going to give me for $29k for $25k. I'll drive to Tallahassee any day to save over $4,000 on a car with more options. The dealership is nice, they make sure you're comfortable, and everyone there was friendly and willing to help. read more

I bought my car at and religiously took my car to proctor subaru for service - I listened to everything they told me and did everything that was recommended. But I felt like they never listened to me, just a "dumb little blonde girl." I also started to suspect I was being told I needed work that I did not actually need yet. And so I took my car to a highly rated and trusted shop for a checkup (the "new shop"). The first thing that was brought to my attention was the fact there was not one, but THREE cross threaded lugnuts.  The last person to touch those tires was at Proctor Subaru.  I am out $51.64 (plus $3.87 tax) for those broken parts. The new shop did confirm that I needed new rear brake pads, as Subaru had told me at my last visit.  However, contradictory to what I was told at my last visit to Proctor Subaru, the new shop said I have approx 15K or more miles left before I need to replace my front brake pads (or, with my driving, "just over a year left.").  I was told by Proctor Subaru that ALL brake pads needed to be replaced immediately. Additionally, over 18 months ago (probably two years - it was before I replaced all 4 tires), I brought up the issue of noise coming from the rear driver side tire.  The staff at Proctor Subaru wrote it off to road noise - made me think I was crazy for not noticing it before (umm, NO sir, it was NOT always noisy!).  I even came in and test drove another 2015 forester with the exact same trim and mileage as mine at one point - and IT didn't make the same noise.  The only difference, other than the color, was that IT had new tires.  So I was excited to think the "road noise" would go away with brand new tires.  I was disappointed when the noise was still there after replacing all 4 tires.  I finally accepted that my forester just got louder with age - as Proctor Subaru kept insisting nothing was wrong.  When I took it to the new shop, I never said anything about the noise, as I had grown accustomed to the noise being "normal."  But I was not surprised when they told me something was wrong (as I had insisted multiple times before to Proctor).  The new shop replaced the wheel bearing, and my car does not make noise anymore!  They were surprised that the guys at Proctor Subaru did not recognize my complaints of noise as a wheel bearing needing to be replaced, "because it's a known issue with subarus."  I am thankful the new shop caught this before a failure of the part(s) - I cringe to think what could have happened with more mileage put on a failing wheel bearing.  I am super excited to be driving a QUIET car again. The new shop advised me to go back to Proctor Subaru and seek reimbursement for the parts they broke at the very least (threaded/broken lugnuts/bolts). And so I called and talked to Tony on 2/23/22. He said he had to "talk to a manager and call" me back. No call back. So I called again on 3/3 and left a message on Blane's voicemail. No return call from him either. And so I called again on 3/10 and spoke with Billy, who also said he needed to talk to a manager. On 3/15, I FINALLY got a call back from Blane, who left a voicemail asking me to EMAIL him. I was out of the country when Blane left the voicemail for me, but I emailed him as soon as I returned home on Monday 3/21. It's now Friday, and I've heard nothing. Mistakes happen, and wise men own up to them. Wise men do NOT work at Proctor Subaru. read more

In January, brought my daughter's car in for service. Issues that we shared 1) needed tune up 2) driver window wasn't working 3) remote starter installed after-market was wired incorrectly. Asked for it to be looked at to see if could easily remove. Person checking us in was very friendly. On Tuesday, recvd call that car was done. This is when I began to get annoyed with our conversation. Re: wiring was told that yes, it was installed incorrectly & there was "damage" done to other systems as result. Damage could only be determined by removing remote starter, reconnecting everything & doing diagnostics. He then attempted to move on in the conversation. I stopped him, concerned that he mentioned "damage to other systems". I asked what damage. He said they couldn't know until diagnostics were done. I asked though, what kind of damage might have been done. He then said, they didn't know if there was damage, but needed to check the systems to see if damage was in fact done. We went around in circles for a minute, me trying to understand was there damage or not...but didn't get anywhere. Not sure why he was doing this, but handled poorly. Then he mentioned the issue with window was that track window rode on was stuck. They lubricated it & now works fine. I mentioned that the window had intermittently worked/malfunctioned so, asked how we know that this fix was going to work as opposed to it malfunctioning a few days after we leave dealership (which is what happened few months ago when taking it somewhere else). His answer was that track had been stuck & they lubricated it so now it was working; a repeat of the previous response; a non answer. I told him that I understood that, but it has worked & then not-worked before. He repeated the same non-answer. We went back & forth & he finally said that they did what they could & believe it's fixed. If it malfunctions, we should bring it back. This answer, I understood. It took a long time to get there. What I had wanted to know was that did he think this fix was a bandaid or a permanent fix (best guess). If clearly a bandaid, we would have just replaced window. When my daughter picked up car, as she was driving off, she noticed check engine light was on. She asked agent if checking this out was not part of tuneup. He said no & wasn't checked because we did not ask for it to be checked. At that point, she called me. I spoke with him. Asked him why we weren't notified that light was on. He mentioned that he only just saw it himself. He then though, mentioned that mechanic did notice it when the car was brought in. I asked why then didn't somebody call us & tell us this was the case & to see what we wanted to do? He mentioned again that it wasn't on list of things we asked to be checked, so they didn't check it. I mentioned that I've never been to a mechanic that wouldn't call & say, "hey, your check engine light is on, how do you want to handle". He said he understood but that he only just saw the light. I said I understand, but that he had said the mechanic saw it from the very start. He said that was right, but mechanic didn't mention it to him & that it wasn't one of the things we asked him to check out!!!???? This was an absurd conversation. It's like going to the doctor for a bad cold, doctor notices that your blood pressure is through the roof but doesn't mention it because it's not what you came in for. As side note, on my Tuesday call with same guy, In addition to the above, he mentioned that mechanic noticed slight leaking from head gasket. He didn't recommend doing anything about it because it would be at high cost (which I appreciated) and it wasn't significant. The point though is that nobody asked him to check this out. But he did anyway & made us aware of this. But not the check engine light? Because it wasn't on the list?? To make sure my daughter's car is safe to drive, I should/would have kept the car there to have diagnostics run on check engine light. I have such little confidence in this service department however, that I chose not to do so & had her take it elsewhere. Also, I have yet to receive invoice. The agent, while I was on the phone, said he was emailing it to me. Never recvd. On another note, was charged $119 or so for checking wiring. I have had 5 or 6 mechanics/service depts check this wiring in past. All have said same thing. Wiring of starter is a mess. NOT ONE of them charged us a diagnostic fee. After writing the above to the sales manager, he responded promptly via email, which I appreciated. He said he was forwarding my note to couple of others & that I'd be hearing from someone. I never heard from anyone. My daughter did receive a couple of very formulaic emails (they also called twice, but she works and is unable to talk during the day), offering a discount on service but never specifically mentioning the problems and concerns voiced. Yes, I do expect good service when I go somewhere. This I think, is a pretty low bar. read more

I purchased a used outback about 6 months ago. I love the car! The buying experience was excellent. The agent was extremely knowledgable and not pushy which was unlike all other places I had been. When I purchased the car, it was agreed that the scratch on the side door would be fixed. Documentation was even signed saying so. But it took months, multiple phone calls and emails to get them to do it. They were unable to tell me how long the fix would take, if a loaner car was available and had to be chased constantly. If you know me then you know I love my Subaru Forester, Nole. Today I took Nole to get his oil change and everything was great as it should be in a new car and I had the best experience I've ever had getting an oil change! Subaru is a great car company who not online has reliable vehicle but are great to their customers. I pulled up to the service door and as soon as got out of my car someone was outside to great me (by name!) and start getting it done. They had water coffee, snacks, wifi and a nice clean waiting area. They did my oil change detailed my car and gave me the report quick easy and they were so friendly just another reason subaru is so great! read more

Proctor Subaru is not to be trusted. We currently own a 2000 Forester and love it although we weren't happy with Kelly Subaru. My husband did a test drive of a 2013 Forester because there are some changes in visibility and cargo room. He filled out all the paperwork for an advertised $25 gift card with a test drive. It has been 3 months and no gift card. Even though we are in the market for a new Forester we will NOT be purchasing from Proctor. If a company can't stand behind their advertisements and promises on $25 what will they do if we were to purchase a vehicle? Excellent vehicle but we need excellent companies to sell it. read more

My daughter is going to FSU she drives a Subaru Impresa. It has developed a cooling problem so I told her to find the local dealer, wouldn't want a shady mechanic. They told her she needed a new radiator $400.00 she needs to replace the head gasket $2300.00 she needs to replace the rack and pinion stealing sector $1400.00 and they cant get the parts to fix the problem that the key wont come out of the ignition. Fact is she had a radiator hose that is shot and some other hoses should be replaced $150.00 she needs a new Battery $130.00 nothing wrong with the head gaskets (either one) a fitting needed tightened on the steering it was leaking and the reason the key wont come out of the ignition is a $70 sensor to tell the car it is in park needs to be replaced. PROCTOR SUBARU you decide. I have called the manager every morning for 2 weeks and leave a message that I would like to know what happened he won't call back. read more
