Typical used car salesman experience. I'm 71 , sold my truck myself in Panama City fl... looking for an economy car so I could afford to go see my granddaughter in Atlanta more often. Trey lured me over there, 100 miles away, to see a cute Elantra.... He said it was a great car in good condition. He sent me 3 videos, it looked good. I got my friend to drive me over there and when I see the car, it has a horrible paint job covered in oxidation and the inside smells extremely strongly of cigarette smoke and had a cigarette burn in the driver seat. I was flabbergasted because I had already given them a $500 deposit... My friend had something pressing and had to leave so there I am in Tallahassee with very limited funds truthfully they did offer to give me my deposit back, but it would have meant starting all over and renting a car and I'm not well and I was struggling and I just bought it. It's horrible looking and I'm embarrassed to drive it but I will until I can save up enough money to have it painted I would not trust this dealership and would not recommend it to any friends or family. It wasn't exactly bait and switch, but I think he could've told me that it really needed a paint job and that it did not smell good at all before I traveled 100 miles to see it. I visited the dealership for the first time and left in a new Mazda. Michael Cabral and Chris Koromvokis made the experience really positive and simple. They really took the time to educate me on the car I was considering and all of my options. It was unlike any car-buying experience I've ever had. Everyone I encountered during my time there was so nice and welcoming. The environment that has been created out there is obviously an excellent one as it shows through the actions of the team members. I will start by saying I truly love my Mazda. That being said, do yourself a very big favor and do not bring your car to the Gem Mazda Tallahassee service department. For 6 years I have endured the most poorly managed service (and now parts) departments i have ever encountered. It literally takes 8 hours to do an oil change and tire rotation. Good luck if you need more work done. They don't stock common parts for the most popular model. They recently had my car 5 days to replace a water pump. Now that my extended warranty is running out I do not intend to ever return there. Not to mention they speak to you as though you are a gullible idiot. What they don't know is that i have worked in a parts and service department at a dealership in the past. I actually know what goes on and how it can work smoothly. These people need to get a decent manager and start over from scratch. Avoid them until that happens. read more

We just completed a purchase of a used vehicle for my grandson and were very impressed by the sales and service technicians at Gem Madza. We needed to get transportation quickly and completed the sale in a few hours at an agreeable price. Michael was very accommodating in showing us what was available to fit our needs and allowed us to make our own decisions on a vehicle. The vehicle was cleaned and ready for pickup the next day. I cannot expressed how disappointed these Mazda dealership are getting. I have been deceived and lied to many times but this dealership really made me almost have a mental breakdown. Chris - Sales Service guy (a below average white guy with blue eyes) lied to my face three times when I mentioned to him the horror story I had with other Mazda dealerships. I have a 2009 Mazda Cx-7 with around 211,000 miles. I took great care of my car and spent a good amount of money on my car to make it last this long. I explained to Chris how I got my EGR valve replaced from Firestone Auto Care but the check engine light came back on so I had to take it back to the Firestone to check the problem again. Firestone said they think the problem is within the engine and I have to take it to the dealership. Little that I know, the check engine light was no longer displaying on my dashboard as I was driving to the dealership. I explained the problem that the EGR valve was replaced and need to take a closer look to see why I keep seeing the code P0401 displayed on my dashboard. I told Chris I do not want you to upsell me and he said we will only provide you what you need for your car but he lied to me. What made me really annoyed was how the technician provided false information about my car. He mentioned the reason why I keep seeing the check engine light displayed on my dashboard was because the gas, oil and coolant is getting sucked into the manifold and not being released properly so the turbocharge and engine is dying. He also mentioned there were black smoke, and white smoke during the recording they sent me. I was confused how he did not show the smoke on the recording. I mentioned to Chris that I never saw black smoke or white smoke as I was driving to the dealership so why all of a sudden there is smoke. Chris couldn't answer my question properly. He just suggested that I need to either replaced my turbocharge engine since I have high mileage or buy another car from the lot or somewhere else (First lie - upsell me) During our phone call, I asked Chris why didnt the technician recorded the smoke as he was talking about it. Chris said because it is better to see it in person. So I confront me in person I asked him the same question about the smoke and he lied to me and said well its better to see it in the garage where the technician was at (Second lie). During our phone call, I mentioned my coolant was low than it normally it was and I did not see anything leak from the bottom of my car so I asked if the technician can looked into it. When I confront him about my coolant, he said that I have a leak somewhere that is why I see the coolant leaking underneath my car - the problem was that I never said I saw the leak coming from under my car. (He put words in my mouth - Third lie). I had other mechanics look into the recording - some believe the bullshit but the other who managed my car from the beginning did not believe the bullshit and believe my car can still run if I continue with proper maintenance. What I am confused from all of the false information Chris and the technician provided me is how I drove more than 399 miles with my car after I got my car from the dealership with no smoke coming from the exhaust and no check engine light displayed from my dashboard. But what bothers me the most is that I told Chris about the story I had with my car and how precious my car is, hence why I took really good care of it. Apparently, Chris did not seem to care. I really believe what other private auto care tells me - these dealership uses scare tactics just for customers to buy a car from their lot or have you spend thousands of dollars to fix something that was never broken. The bad news from my experience is that I spent $188 for nothing. The good news is that I will never go back to GEM Mazda dealership with my car and only go to a reliable private auto care. I hope no one experience what I experienced with their car. This world is full of selfish crooks. Do your research and always get more than two opinions about your vehicle before getting serviced by a dealership. read more

Service department is subpar. Went in a few months ago with an electrical issue under warranty for my MX5. At check in the service writer attempted to upsell me a transmission service (my car has less than 30k miles). When I challenged him on it he said it was a "dealer recommendation". That evening I did a little research and learned that this transmission - according to Mazda should never need servicing. The first trip back after the electrical repair I got home to discover the issue was not fixed. After second trip to dealer I discovered that the newest fix made my key fob inoperable. Had to make third trip back to dealer to resolve the key issue. Two additional trips to dealership to resolve my issue that could have been avoided had the service department done basic Quality Control on their service. To add insult to injury, the car was filthy each time it was returned - grease prints on every surface the mechanic touched, come on man you guys can do better than this! If you need help - go spend some time over at the Acura dealer to see how it should be done. read more

RECALL RELATED tl;dr My vehicle is now far more dangerous to drive following the recall "fix" implemented by GEM Mazda in Tallahassee and the service tech was rude to my wife I needed to get my wife's Mazda CX-7 looked at for an airbag recall. The recall stated that takata airbags were unsafe, and could explode with enough force to spray metal shrapnel. This was obviously not ideal, so I made an appointment. Aside from the airbag, the vehicle had been driving fine with no steering issues. My wife took it down to Gem Mazda from Valdosta, GA (200 mile round trip). The service department told her they were going to fix another recall issue as well (lower control arms which are steering related). This control arm "fix" totally screwed up the steering for the vehicle. It went from perfect and responsive to loose, mushy, with excessive play. After creating the issue, they informed my wife it was dangerous (yeah, thanks) and that she could pay them 350 dollars to fix it (awesome, thanks). They then tried to compel her to sign disclaimer documentation stating that it was unsafe, and when she refused the tech rolled his eyes as if she was being unreasonable. Their reasoning for not helping? They said that it was "probably about to go bad soon anyways". To me, that sounds like speculation. I've called corporate about 5 times, and emailed them, and to date no one has done anything to rectify the issue. To sum up, there is a possibility they will: a) create an expensive issue, b) try to make you pay for the issue they created, c) patronize you, and d) try to get you to disclaim safety liability for their screw-up So, if you have a recall, maybe avoid this dealership if possible. read more

They finished my oil change and tire rotation in about 45 minutes even though I was late to my appointment AND forgot my ticket. They called for me to get my service account numbers. read more

I had the most wonderful experience at Gem Mazda! I was lucky enough to receive Markus Brockman from the sales staff. Markus was incredibly knowledgeable, and before long he had us on the road test driving vehicles that fit our specific needs. Sometimes when a person is checking into cars there is a lot of pressure to make a decision they may regret later,this was never the case here at Gem Mazda. The entire staff made my girlfriend and I comfortable and completely informed throughout the entire process. The service staff went as far as to provide free maintenance summing up to around 175 dollars just to ensure that we were 100% satisfied with our car. The next time I purchase a new or used car I am coming back to Markus Brockman here at Gem Mazda. read more

We have been Gem Mazda customers since 2013 and use their service department for all our oil changes/routine maintenance. They are always courteous and complete the service within the hour and don't try to sell extra services. I 'hate' the car buying experience....you go to a dealership to look and are practically tackled by a salesman before you get out of your car. However, Gem Mazda is different, the salesmen are friendly, very knowledgeable, patient, and skilled in helping you find the car/features you really want (not what they want to sell). I have purchased 2 vehicles from Gem Mazda and highly recommend them. read more

Steve in the service department is absolutely amazing. Through a series of utterly incompetent steps, I broke the windshield wiper off of a friend's Mazda 3. Steve in the service department could not have been more helpful and kind, when I told him the absurd story he made every effort to get the part as quickly and cheaply as possible. I have been to many car dealerships. The employees are always friendly, but Steve in service went above and beyond the call. I would recommend their service department to anyone. read more
