I hired Sheldon based on previous yelp reviews. He helped me out tremendously. He hung two curtain rods for me, one small item on brick fireplace, and one heavy item on the back porch (wood siding). I will post pics of his work. I contacted him through yelp and he messaged me right away. From then on we used text messages to communicate. I hired him for a week out and he showed up right on time. He came in, assessed the work and took pictures and then took a short trip to home depot to get the correct supplies for brick. Contacted Problem Solved on Friday. Several emails and text messages later, he came to the house on Saturday morning. Wanted $200 for materials, which I paid. He then told me he would be back in an hour to an hour and a half. I have not seen this man since. Several text messages on Saturday, each one pushing his return to my home until he finally suggested waiting till first thing Sunday morning. After a couple more texts, he offered to return my cash payment, which I agreed to. I have still to see this man or receive any text promising action which he has then fulfilled. Hiring Problem Solved to do a job would make sense only if you can somehow get the man to show up and actually finish the job - before paying even the first cent of an agreed upon price. read more

If you are out of town, he'll also ask for you to transfer money daily via Western Union (and then may not show up for days once he has some cash). After almost 5 hours from our agreed time they show up. They really damaged a few of the furniture pieces they moved. To the point that we cannot sell them. They made an eight inch long and deep gash in our entry wood floor. We are not happy how things went that day. I can honestly say these two gentlemen didn't know what they were doing because they said those exact words in front of my children. I was so diaspointed with their work and will not use them again. I am a landlord and had a similar experience to another landlord reviewer below. Initial response was quick but follow up is poor. I asked Sheldon to repair a broken tile and a dishwasher not draining properly. After the initial visit tenant informed me dishwasher was still not draining. I requested a follow up. For about 2 weeks Sheldon strung me along saying a follow up visit will be done. The money lost is not as big an issue as the wasted time and effort on my part. The more upsetting part is being told something would happen several times and it not happening. It would have saved me time and money to just buy a new dishwasher at the very beginning. read more

I called Sheldon and asked him if he could fill a couple Sheetrock holes in a hurry. They needed to patch the holes, add texture, and repaint that wall. He told me he could come over and do it that same afternoon. He asked me to go to Home Depot and get the supplies. When he told me they needed 5 gallons of paint and 5 bottles of spray texture I should have known he was under qualified. It's just one wall! I bought 2 gallons of paint just in case and 5 bottles of texture and held onto the receipt knowing that had to be too much. 30 minutes before he claimed he'd be here he called and said his van broke down and wanted to come the next morning. I said sure, no problem, things happen. Then he texts me saying if I'd give him a deposit he'd 100% be here the next morning at 8:00 am. Ha! I waited until 9:00 before calling him a few times with no answer. At 10:45 he text me to tell me he's waiting on his workers. Tells me he will be here by 11:30. Finally shows up at 12:35. His "employee" was the one doing all the work because it was obvious he knew more about the actual work. After about 5 hours of work they were done. They did decent work at best and left paint spots on my tile. You can still see the hole they filled in since the obviously didn't know how to match the texture. Moral of the story: this guy definitely took a job that was over his head. He has no idea how to be professional or even courteous. He used one gallon of paint so one went to waste. If I listened to him I would have had over $100 worth of paint I didn't need! I also returned 4 unopened cans of texture. Maybe he can hang a painting, install door handles, etc, but don't let this guy fool you into thinking he's a carpenter. read more

The four stars are for the two huge (over 60 in) televisions that were hung in the living room and the bedroom. I'm very pleased with those and how well they were hung. And the five fans that were hung that were done with such care and look great. The price was very reasonable. I took a star off because Sheldon said he was coming back on Sunday to install the water softener. I messaged him at noon and then 1 pm asking if he was coming over to finish the job. He never called or texted me back since then. I had another handyman install the water softener. If Sheldon doesn't finish your job in one visit he's not coming back. That's not a professional to me. Wouldn't use again since he's so unreliable and sporadic with communication. His two workers (Benny and Benny's son) are phenomenal. They are great. read more

I had to do some make-ready work for a rental I own. I reached out Sheldon and that is the biggest mistake I made. He answered right away and sometimes that is not a good thing. In this case it just meant they had no jobs. I asked me to pay $150 upfront for $500 worth of job via square.com. I was wary but since I was in a hurry and based on good review on yelp I paid them even before meeting them in person. I meet them on Saturday morning and it is very clear as we went over the list of things that they had no clue about drywall patching etc. I was very uncomfortable having them do everything on my list so we decided to give them a try with a tub recaulking and a door which was coming off the hinges leaving a gap at the top. We discussed that all old caulking had to be removed before and they would shim the hinges such that the gap was rectified. They completed the work by cutting the door so now the door has a gap at the top and is cut from the bottom. The old caulk was not removed and caulking was applied on top of old caulk, most sloppy work I have seen. I texted him immediately and he admitted he did a bad job. He agreed to refunding all my money $150 in all. But weeks went by, he had new excuses for pushing out the refund. I am going through my bank dispute process to get my money back. I am paying a different company to fix the jobs done by them. I suspect most of the good reviews are fake. I would stay away from this company. read more

I'm a first time homeowner, and trying to save some money on furniture, purchased a gently used couch without measuring first. I'm sure you can guess what happened next: it wouldn't fit through the door of the room where I wanted to put it, even with the feet off and the door off its hinges. I felt so dumb. My husband did some measuring and it was just 3/4" too big. We figured if we removed the thin strips of wood inside the door frame we could get the couch through. I tried but made very little progress in 20 minutes and knew I needed to get a professional. I called several handyman services this morning and most of them were booked solid. However, Sheldon called me right back and asked for pictures to clarify what I needed. He was prompt in getting back to me with a quote that was more than reasonable and agreed to come over in the afternoon. He communicated that he was running a bit late and revised his ETA and showed up at that revised time. Both Sheldon and Cedric were polite, fast workers, who did a wonderful job on short notice. They even offered to take their shoes off (which I appreciated having just swept and mopped). On top of that, they helped move the couch into the room! Success! After removing the strips, they nailed them back and sealed it with the caulk I had on hand (instead of charging me for materials) and made it work even though it was a little dried out. The door frame looks perfect and you cannot tell that it was ever altered. When they were finished, they cleaned up the work area and were done. It took about an hour for the whole procedure. I would not hesitate to contact them again for any handyman needs I have. read more

Asked Sheldon to do patch work on a crack, fix toilet, hang shutters and repair an outlet. He cancelled first appointment. Came to the second appointment about 2 hours late, which pushed him into evening and personal time. Work wasn't completed that night because of dark (shutters outside). Kept promising to come back and didn't until I'd had enough of chasing him and finally wrote a scathing review. Fast forward...the crack has reappeared. The outlet is crooked and not flush to the wall, and never was. The shutters fell out because he didn't use anchors. The toilet still works. Worst handyman experience ever. Do not use!!! read more

We needed a light moved about 2 feet on the ceiling. Based on the good reviews, I contacted Sheldon and he agreed to do everything (move light, patch dry wall, texture, etc.) for $400. That was the worst decision I've ever made. After arriving 3 hours late, Sheldon moved the light and then proceeded to start patching the ceiling. 4 HOURS LATER we saw that his work was ridiculous - the perimeter around the hole in the ceiling was still clearly visible, the texture was messy and clumpy, and he was smiling at us like he had done quality work. We told him we weren't satisfied, and he agreed to come fix it the next night. After 3 HOURS the next night, it looked the same, and we sent him home. He wanted to come back again to work on it, so I sent him a text saying that he had done very poor quality work, and we would have to get it redone by someone else because he clearly could not do it. He was incredulous - he didn't admit that his work was bad, and it took several text messages to convince him that he needed to give us a discount so that we could redo the ceiling with someone else. He agreed to a discount and said he would charge us $300 for the whole job. We texted back and forth for 3 months, and twice he said he would refund our money, and never did. He actually fought our claim with the bank, so clearly he had no intention of refunding our money. Now we have to waste time fighting with our bank, and suing him in small claims court if that doesn't work. Some additional details: * Sheldon claimed over text that we "didn't give him a chance" to fix the ceiling. We gave him 7 hours. When our original builder hooked us up with a drywall expert to fix Sheldon's mess, that guy came and did a fabulous job in 25 minutes. Sheldon did extremely poor quality work, and either didn't recognize that or won't admit it. If we had known this, we would have never let him set foot in our house. * Sheldon also overcharged us $428 instead of $400 like he said initially, so definitely a dangerous person to have access to your credit card. As of today, he still owes us $128 (from work done in April!) * He honestly owes us much more than that. Our builder lighting people came to check something unrelated for a warranty issue, and I asked them to just check Sheldon's light. The guy did, shook his head, said it was horrible work, wasn't up to code, and would have to be redone. We are going to have to spend $300 getting the whole thing redone. * Throughout our encounter, Sheldon practically begged me not to write a bad review on Yelp. I accepted at first, because he seemed to be working with us, but after we realized he did incredibly poor work, stole our money, and lied to us, I couldn't wait to get on Yelp and write an honest review so that nobody else would have to go through what we've been through with Sheldon. I wonder how many other's he's begged not to leave bad reviews. If you are considering hiring him, PLEASE DON'T. We are very unhappy with Sheldon and his work. We hired him to assemble a wayfair dresser for 60$. after he was hours late, he finished the job with the bottom drawer sticking and not sliding well and we had to call him to come back out. He again was extremely late. We asked him to fix another piece of furniture for us that he said he could for another 60$. Our tv stand is now warped and makes the tv extremely crooked in our main living area. I specifically asked for him to contact me whether he can fix it or not and he never answered. However, they rescheduled three times and like other reviewers have stated with the reason that his truck would not start. We inquired about needing some assistance rehanging a couple of doors because of poor alignment/not shutting properly. Also wanted someone who could replace a bathroom vanity. Through various text messages Sheldon and I agreed on a price for the doors, but his quote for the vanity replacement (over $600) was out of my budget so we booked him for the doors only. He was very responsive up to this point, although he was very persistent about us to "please have him do both jobs". I'm glad we didn't. Sheldon and his assistant were very friendly, but my biggest complaint was his workmanship and lack of follow up - oh, and the fact that they both disappeared for over 2 HOURS when they went basically 5 minutes away to Home Depot to get shims and a door sweep (he said they took a lunch break). As for workmanship, I wish I had taken pictures, but we have since moved out of the house. The work did NOT look like that of a skilled handyman IMHO. As far as the vanity, I am very happy I went the DIY route, all for just the cost of the new one - less than $200. He had me pay him on Square via my phone, for the work he completed on the doors, which I did. He said he'd email me a receipt, which I needed for tax purposes. He said he had to go to the office to do it. He never did. A couple of days later I texted and he said he'd have it out by the end of the day because he was on the road. He did not. I called again and he said again that he would have it emailed. That was the last I heard from him. Many, MANY emails, phone calls, and texts later - in fact it's been over 6 months - there has never been a receipt and he has ignored/not responded to anything. Bottom line: nice guy, use for small jobs that don't need huge quality workmanship, and get a receipt/invoice (if that's important to you) before you pay. read more
