I just finished 6 weeks of PT for a pinched nerve in my shoulder that, in addition to causing a lot…read moreof pain, also left me with numbness in my left hand. When I started here I was struggling to sleep since the pain was worse at night and any position I sat in sent pins and needles down my arm to fingertips. Working on my pottery (my current creative outlet) was difficult as I couldn't feel the tips of 2 of my 5 fingers. Makes things kinda tough when you're relying on gentle touch on a wheel. I was exhausted, sad, and stressed. But I'm happy to report that after my time here, I have regained all feeling in my hand, the pain is all but gone, and I only get intermittent tingling down my arm and when I do it's far less intense. Dave and his amazing team implemented a number of techniques including cupping, e-stim, exercises, dry needling, traction, heat, and stretching that all combined to get me back on track. He also provided me with exercises and techniques I could continue at home to make sure I continue to improve and also keep future nerve issues at bay. I could cry I'm so happy with how things turned out. Thank you, Dave for giving me full use of my hand back and for sharing great conversations around music all the while. Also shout out to Anna for being such a joy to communicate with as I was getting set up, maintaining my schedule, etc. In fact, everyone here was so personable and my appointments just flew by each time I went in. I hope I never need to visit again but I feel confident that they would get me back in business ASAP if so!

Mariah and I have a similar story- Great health, in shape, young. Mine was a really badly broken…read moremetatarsal in my left hand which required surgery, and 2 weeks of a full forearm cast. The cast rendered two of my fingers pretty much immobile after languishing for that period of time. The care I received at U of M Occupational Therapy was extraordinary, even though it was a sometimes painful rehab, it was the highlight of my week. Kurt Hiser, Jennifer Stowers, and Jeanne Riggs welcomed me from day one and not only saw to it that I was getting tailor-made exercises and 6 different custom made splints, but inspired me to pursue a life in the medical profession as well. I literally could write an essay on how wonderful, positive, and helpful these people are to me. I love 'em. -S

Being referred to University of Michigan's PT program literally changed my life. I'm not going to…read moredrag you through any gory details of my health history, but despite being a rather fit, healthy, young and active person, I ran into a situation a few years ago where I was experiencing chronic pain. A specialist at U of M referred me to physical therapy, and while I was skeptical at first, I really started to look forward to my appointments after awhile! Not only did the techniques performed in-office help cut down on my chronic pain, but my therapist was so knowledgeable that she would give me all sorts of exercises, etc. to do at home. This not only helped physically, but made me feel better emotionally -- finally, I had things I could do/work on that would help me heal and feel better! She was an excellent listener (sometimes that alone counts for a lot when it comes to medical care), and since I hated the side effects of painkillers, worked with me to get me a TENS unit to help manage my pain. Several years later, I am still grateful to U of M and their excellent therapists for the fact that I am almost entirely pain-free and living a normal young person's life again.... or at least as "normal" of a life as I ever lived! ;)
