The care here is excellent the rehab staff work tirelessly. Often short of staff but you would never know they give each patient the time and care that they and the insurance company request. We are so thankful that our loved one ended up at Regency on the Bluffs. Everyone--i mean everyone--was so caring, supportive and professional. They are all very hard-working. I know, because I spent almost 24 hours a day there during my husband's last days. (We had hospice care while he was there.) SO I was able to observe the staff around the clock. There were therapists of all kinds: physical, occupational, speech, respiratory, etc. Doctors, and P.A.s who checked on him. Social workers, etc. Best of all were the nurses and aides who attended to his needs--and ours--with understanding. We are truly grateful to Regency. read more

How does this place stay open? I wouldn't take an enemy to this place. Many staff - techs or aides, physical therapists, nurses - often have a rude and unkind attitude. I was in for recovery from a knee replacement surgery. When it was time to get another pain pill, I had to wait sometimes as much as an hour and a half before I could get it. I honestly cannot think a single nice thing to say about this place where the people who work there. read more

For rehab this is definitely not the place to go. They are allowed to give meds anywhere within a two hour frame, one hour before due or one hour after due. I had more than once where it was 2 hours or more before I received my pain meds and th a t was after I asked for them. Doctors orders were meds at PRN (as needed). That means give them right away when asked, dont wait 2 hours and leave the patient in tears due to hurting so bad. For P.T. services I would highly recommend them but for rehab care I wouldn't take anyone there ever again. read more

It was an ok place. Food was alright. Rooms were plain with ugly bedspreads. Some nurses were good. Some were bad.

My wife was placed there I Oct 2022 the nursing and PT staff were kind and helpf ull The main problems were lack of cleanlines. the room was only cleaned 2 times in the 2 weeks there the bed sheets were only changed once, and only after asking several times. the food service and quality was the worst we have seen. many times she could not eat it due to the very poor quality, and smell. even visitors were astonished at the poor quality, and brought food up sever times. it was brought to their attention several times to staff and nutritionist, but after being told it would be improve, was not. my wife really needed to stay for more week to get proper PT, but the care was so bad that we had to pull her out. read more

Do not put your loved ones here. We had to move my loved one due to the poor care. Most staff are cold and uncaring with the exception of a select few. Weekends care is pretty bleak. Baths are hard to come by, while food is pathetic and inedible. read more

Our friend, in his early 60s, was here for 6 weeks and received terrible care. A bedsore he developed was not cared for properly (it took up to 3 hours for someone to respond to his call to change his diaper) and he ended up back in the hospital with a very bad infection. The place smelled or urine and the food was substandard. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

Visited the Bluffs three times in past month and was impressed by their professionalism and care for patients. My sister has been taken care of very well and Emily inActivities department and Samantha and Inprocessing have been very helpful. Lots of workers in many departments working together. I'm writing this review to save another family the frustration and stress we experienced at Bluffs Park. I am the power of attorney for a former patient who was admitted to this facility after a one week hospital stay for sepsis. The patient needed to regain her strength before being discharged to go back to her home. I was very involved in my family member's care and stayed at the facility anywhere from 6-12 hours per day. I was there anywhere from 6 am to midnight to give a presence and ensure the patient was being properly cared for. During the four days she was here we only saw a doctor once, for approximately 2-3 minutes on the arrival day. When we arrived, we were not greeted by anyone. The ambulance company wheeled the patient to the room that the hospital gave him. It took us 15 minutes to find a staff member. When we did they were confused, said they "weren't expecting us," even though paperwork with the patient's name was already printed and waiting in the room. They told us we were going to "experience some delays" since they didn't know we were coming, although the social worker at the hospital set up this appointment, we had confirmation emails from the facility and there was already paperwork in the room with the patient's name on it. The nurses were nice, but not very attentive. My family member was put in a wheelchair to wheel her to the restroom since she was too weak to walk. On one occasion, a nurse left in her in the wheelchair for over an hour and a half without anyone checking on her, after claiming, "I'll be right back." The nurses did not seem to be briefed on patients during shift change. Twice they attempted to give the patient incorrect medication. It was only because the patient asked what she was being given was the error discovered. On the patient's last day in this facility, I left at 2pm and returned at 6pm. Upon my return, the patient was incoherent and there had been a clear change in mental status. When I alerted the nurse, I was told, "that's weird." I insisted that the patient be transferred back to the hospital and that the patient's vitals be taken immediately. The nurse called the doctor (again - the one who had only previously appeared for 2 minutes) who stated a return visit to the hospital was not necessary and he would not approve it. Upon hearing that the patient's blood pressure was dangerously low, I insisted EMS be called. EMS arrived, quickly assessed the serious nature of the situation, and transported the patient to the local emergency room. Three hours later, the patient was DEAD. What I witnessed in our short time there was chaos, disorganization, and understaffing that resulted in a neglect of an elderly patient. This may be a fine place for physical rehabilitation for patients who have no other medical issues; however, after my experience, and I would not suggest this as a location for elderly family members. read more

This rehab center left my mother in worse shape than when she arrived. Despite the challenges of COVID, the 2 week treatment/stay of my 92 year old mother was poor as follows: 1. Care Team did not meet with family caregiver for one week 2. Care Team was unable to do PT/OT well with patient with memory loss 3. My mother was found on the floor at 6 am lying on her back trying to get to the bathroom 4. Social worker did not return calls after 48 hours 5. Rehab center dropped mother off at hospital with no escort or advice to the family caregiver 6. Insurance company with long distance review by doctor was going to discharge my mother without review of her fracture 7. Discharge nurse did not contact pharmacy for meds needed for my mother in a timely manner. read more

I arrived here from a nightmare of epic proportions. Not only had I lost a body part but my previous turfing had landed me in a horrific hellhole of no meds and limited care. I was in quite a state. I have never been so warmly embraced and well cared for by any other medical facility. These people are fabulous. They were totally prepared for me and made sure to double check immediately upon my arrival if there was more that they could do. The facility is homey, comfortable and well maintained. The room felt like a hotel room, complete with comfy recliner. The food was actually really good and they gave you plenty of choice while following your exact dietary needs. if you didn't like something (which only happened once) they immediately replaced it. If you had a care session or hospital stay and you missed a meal, they would stop in to get you something immediately upon your return. Your family is welcome, all members. They have visiting pets and activities when you are bored. They hold care conferences to keep everyone on the same page and abreast of progress. Everything is taken care of, including follow up visits to the hospital. A free round trip to and from so noone had to miss work for my doc appointments. My family could rest easy, knowing I was in good hands being taken complete care of. Everything is seamless and awesome. The staff here is so incredibly awesome. Warm, funny and knowledgable. They did better with my wound care than they did at U of M. Nurses chat and really care how you are feeling. You really feel loved. They work incredibly hard and as a team. I did not get the petty attitudes I sometimes encountered at the hospital towards coworkers. They seem to really support each other. The techs and patient care assistances were awesome. All 24 hours had great people. You knew whoever came to your room would work out just fine. I had both occupational and physical therapy here. The team was great. I appreciated that they kept me with the same awesome twosome through my stay. I have never had enjoyable therapy before but I looked forward to my daily sessions here. Such great therapists! They got me off the oxygen and walking normally. Due to the nature of my injury they would often come to my room to treat me as my wound made modestly getting around quite difficult. I loved the therapy gym though when I was finally ready to use it. They had everything. I was sad to leave. One of my therapists was overdue with her baby. I never did find out if she had a girl or another boy. My fave nurse Kenya (it is a hard choice as I loved them all) even gave me her number to stay in touch. Everyone made sure to stop in and say farewell. It felt like I was leaving family. If you ever have someone in need of skilled nursing and/or rehab in the greater Ann Arbor area, pick here. Highly recommend. This facility was a great choice for my recovery. Overall it was an amazing experience. Wonderful and Caring staff, all 100+\- who take a lot of pride in their work. Very compassionate in changing my wounds and being consistent with medications. The food was amazing and they worked with me on choices. My daughter and son wants to say "Thank you for all the dedicated staff here that went above and beyond caring for our mom like your very own." The therapist (physical therapist and occupational therapist) are super professional and very knowledgeable in understanding the healing process. OMG learned so much which made the recovery process faster and encouraging The housekeeping is daily and room and bathroom well cleaned. Really appreciated the extra care and attention you all provided. The recreation is full of activities if you want to socialize or do an activity alone! This was the worst experience of my life. Short staffed, very limited physical and occupational services. Rude staff who frequently sighed or rolled there eyes at simple requests like water. I was there for 23 days and the room was "cleaned" twice. Same garbage in the corner from day one to discharge. Blood on the floor in the bathroom for over a week. Food was not edible much less "gourmet" as advertised. Unable to provide vegetarian meals and certainly not vegetarian and diabetic as well. Meal after meal after meal of nothing but bland starches and this is after talking to a nurse, doctor, care team and the nutritionist twice. Regency at Bluffs Park prides itself on being a "5-star" facility. Well, I can tell you they are NOT. I was transferred from U of M hospital to Regency for rehab after my recent knee surgery. When I first got there, no one was at the front desk to greet me or my driver who helped get me inside the facility. It took someone over 10 minutes to even acknowledge me. When I got into my room, they acted like they had no clue how to transfer me from my wheelchair to the bed. They finally decided on a hoyer lift, and that was a nightmare. No one supported my leg at all while they were transferring me. I was asked a bunch of questions by the nurse, but never was given all the admissions paperwork to sign until my last day at Regency a month later. There was an inventory sheet the CNA filled out of every item I brought with me, including my at home medications. I was not allowed to have them with me and was told they'd be locked up in security. The last day I was at Regency, they "LOST" my medication, and told me they never had security in the first place. Brittany (director of nursing) had told me that the nurse practitioner already sent my pharmacy all my medications to get refilled. They didn't. I was only able to refill all my medications because most were overdue for a refill since I had been gone a month. Some of the awful things I took note of while there: I literally had to teach almost every CNA that worked with me how to transfer me and how to use a slide/transfer board. Shouldn't this be common knowledge? It took them 2 WEEKS to sort out all my medication, and If I wasn't aware of what I was taking and how much, I would have been undermedicated. If they can do this to me, what are they doing to their residents who don't know or aren't aware of what they're taking? Are they overmedicating, undermedicating? Because of them not being able to get my BIRTH CONTROL right, I started my monthly cycle very early on top of having major surgery. I told the CNA I had started, and she looked at me and said, "I know how you feel," and proceeded to walk out, not offering me anything to take care of it. I had to call another CNA in to help me resolve it. What good are call lights if they aren't being answered in a timely manner? It took them 2 hours one night to get me my pain medication. I was told that the CNA never let them know I needed them. I was also stuck on the toilet for 40 MINUTES waiting for someone to help me. Students who were interning that week finally came in to help me after I was shouting for someone to help. The nurse was outside of my door the whole time, and didn't help me. I also noticed several times that CNA's/Nurses would be on their phone at the nurses station when a lot of call lights would be going off. They are understaffed even though Emily (admissions) told my mom that they aren't. REALLY? One CNA should not have to take care of 15-17 patients at one time. More than half the time I used my call light, they would finally come in and be extremely rude to me like I was an inconvenience. The food is horrible. I don't expect 5-star quality food, but I do expect it to come to me WARM and edible. I lost 5lbs in rehab because I couldn't stomach what they called "food." I ended up spending a lot of my own money on takeout while I was there. The only good thing about Regency was PT. Tracey is excellent along with the other PT's. Even then, their "Gym" is tiny and they deserve a bigger work space since PT is probably the most important component to a rehab! Overall, I WOULD NOT recommend Regency at Bluffs Park, and if I could give them ZERO stars, I would. If you are considering this facility for rehab or for a loved one to go for a nursing home, please reconsider. read more

I only give this one star because there is no option to give zero. DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE. Take my advice and save a life. My mother came close to dying in their care. In 4 short days she fell out of bed, she lay on her face for over an hour yelling, with no one coming to her rescue. She became dehydrated, as no one made sure she ate or drank. Her peri area was FIRE ENGINE RED and full of yeast from no one cleaning her up after using a bed pan. She was taken by emergency back to U of M and ALL of the above is documented all as NEGLECT. Thankfully, her fall didn't result in a broken bone or a bleed in her brain, as she's on a regular blood thinner. Her dehydration resulted in a kidney injury. Her filthy peri (bottom) area resulted in a urinary tract infection that in turn resulted in septic shock. We were told by U of M emergency room doctors that everything she was admitted with was as a result of neglect from Regency Staff. When I went back to Regency to get her belongings and talk with nursing staff, I was told by the nurse unit manager that my mom "rolled out of bed." Funny, she's incapable of rolling. She's totally immobile as she's been in the hospital for over 2 months. When I told her this, she said she was unaware of her immobility. Hmmmm, but she sure was quick to blame my mom for "rolling" out of bed. No apology, no compassion, totally "place the blame elsewhere." As a side note, I measured the bed. The bed was 4 feet wide. If she was properly placed in the middle of the bed, she never would of gone anywhere. Again, neglect. The nurse manager knew nothing of the care my mother needed to be safe and rehab. Neither did the administrator. I asked them both how they could be in charge but not know a darn thing. No answers from either. I could go on and on, but there is no point. We have reported all of the above to the State of Michigan, and there is an investigation started. PLEASE, DO NOT TAKED YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS PLACE. read more

Regency at Bluffs Park is one of the least professional and I'd even say worst facilities I have ever experienced. My 98 year old grandmother had several falling episodes and came to Regency at Bluffs Park in October 2016 for rehab and to gain strength back. From the day she arrived, we were met with inconsiderate, unprofessional staff who did not seem to care about us or my grandmother. There were a few aides who were kind and gentle with her, but for the most part, watching the nurses interact with my grandmother, I was shocked by their rudeness. If we had questions it would take ages to get the attention of the head nurse on duty and once we were chatting their responses were short and unhelpful. To be greeted by very few pleasantries and very little patience by staff during this incredibly difficult time for my family was appalling. There was nothing about Regency at Bluffs Park that put our minds at ease or made us feel that my grandmother was in good care. My grandmother's partial denture, sitting in a cup in the bathroom, was thrown into the garbage by staff, which is just completely unacceptable for a medical facility where staff should be familiar with such dental appliances. While the facility staff did take responsibility, we were unable to start the replacement process because my grandmother's health quickly declined and she passed away. Even after she passed, there had been mention of even a small compensation for the distress this whole situation caused, but over time the compensation amount became smaller and smaller and then disappeared altogether. There are different wings of this facility that have different kinds of patients. My review is for the rehabilitation wing, where the resident expects to be discharged after some number of weeks or months of medical care & therapy. I can't vouch for anything else, and some of the negative reviews seem to be about other types of patients. For this purpose (rehab with eventual discharge), I would recommend Regency unequivocally. The medical staff was on top of things, the floor's reception desk was on the ball and also willing to give enough information to (qualified) visitors. The docs, who I admit visited only a couple times a week, were good. Intake was easy. The room was recently nicely redone, very clean with modern equipment, and there was no smelliness. Room doors are basically heavy fire doors i.e. they reduce corridor sound. The private rooms have their own modern bathrooms with showers, unlike places that others I know have been in (check on this before you choose a place!). The meds people were generally punctual, as was the phlebotomist. The physical therapy people were really great and were the reason for going back to reunions ;-). There is an insurance specialist (probably some other title), a responsive dietitian, and a wound specialist on site. There's a game and book room. The food is okay, although the kitchen tended to not always pay attention to what category of food a patient was supposed to get (but they responded quickly when called). The building is secure and the site is attractive, with views into Bluffs Park and walking access if you want it. I have to add that whenever I (a visitor) was in the elevator with a staff person, I usually asked whether they liked working there. The answer was usually a big smile and "the best place of all the places I've worked at in this area." That's a big plus. It was rare to see staff in the halls who were frowning. If there is a downside, it is parking. It has a smallish parking lot of its own plus parking along the road. Additional parking space is visible but apparently owners of neighboring businesses choose not to share. As a visitor, I was never actually prevented from parking somewhere, but it was a hassle. Since "our" stay we have talked to people who spent time in other local facilities. Every time we compare experiences, facilities, etc, Regency wins. When you read other reviews, keep in mind that this place was acquired by Ciena and renovated about four years ago. It had a terrible reputation before then. read more

Have to give Regency at Bluff Park at least 2 stars for their therapy staff. And the Activities staff, although I don't take part in much there. My physical restriction prohibit much of it. However, there are things anybody considering this place need be aware of before sending a loved one here, or as I did, choosing it yourself. 1. Meals: Breakfast around 9 a.m. if you're lucky to be in the right hall. They ignore your "dislikes" and although the sheet on me clearly states "Lactose Intolerant", they have milk on my dislike list and often bring me cheese based entrees. IF I get a menu weekly, they seemingly ignore my choices and give me things I can't or won't eat. 2. The call button. Push it and they rush in flustered, usually, tell me how many other patients are ahead of me and how much they have to do before they can get to me, then tell, not ask, me to turn off my light as they rush out. I was here two weeks constantly telling them I can't reach my light (lamp) before I frustratedly exclaimed "WHAT LIGHT!?" and was told about the light on the hall wall, next to our doors. My hip and upper leg are broken. It's not as if I'd been outside the room much. 3. If you want a private room, ask about it loudly, often, and progressively angrier. Seems it also helps if you have family members, friends, or a patient advocate (lawyer) doing same on your behalf. When they lied to me today about it, telling me that on the same day, and just after they moved me across the hallway, (in part so that the grab bars in the bathroom are on my strong side), they claim they told me (again, AFTER the move) that a private room was open and I refused it so they took me off the list. After this BS today, (have to verify tomorrow) they said they can put me back on the list but I'd go back at the bottom of it again. This makes no sense at all. If when I was admitted here, I was told there were two ahead of me on the list, and it's no secret here that I've lived mostly alone with my dog kids for over 20 years, why would I refuse a private room? WHY WOULD THEY MOVE ME ACROSS THE HALL, IF THEY HAD A PRIVATE ROOM OPEN? There are other aspects to this that make about as much sense, but I'm not comfortable posting them. And do they think I wouldn't remember if they'd offered me an open private room? My lifestyle at home screams "I like my privacy." I broke my hip, not my head. I don't like liars. read more

My father was there about a year ago. my dad has stayed in several rehab/nursing facilities but this one is bad because it looks decent. It looks professional enough but the night staff of nurses are dangerous and should not be trusted with patients. After expressing my concern to a nurse about his excessive swelling due to water retention, her reply was "I dunno, maybe he was like that when he got here!". no thanks to her, he was rushed to the hospital the very next day. avoid at all costs!! read more

Horrible place. Some of the nurses and CNAs clearly do NOT care about the patients. Even some of the management seems to have no medical training or common sense. My grandpa's blood pressure was dropping (he was dying) and they sat him straight up in bed and told me he was just in pain because of his arthritis. This place should be shut down but unfortunately, unless something is on video, it seems like nothing can be done. If I had a video of how they treated my grandpa, there'd be a court case. My wife was a patient for 31 days (through 2/2014). The atmosphere of the place is captured by the sign at their door... "Visitors Always Welcome." This includes evenings and midnights... they kindly let me sleep in my wife's room for all of her stay. With her having stayed at the most renown rehab facility in Ann Arbor about 20 months ago and been very pleased there, I'd like to point out several areas in which Regency is Even Better... 1) Therapists are Regency employees, not freelancers, and my wife kept the continuity of the same speech, physical, and occupational therapists throughout her stay (was not true at the other place); 2) Entrance questionnaire was more detailed, including toileting habits and abilities - important for setting up the appropriate amount of help at the start; 3) Place is small... 1/2 the number of beds, and hence responses are quicker to issues, plus everything is closer (for example, she was right across from the gym and the hair salon); 4) Social activities director interviewed me for over an hour about her likes and dislikes; 5) All therapists kept me informed daily on her progress, plans, and prognosis; 6) Therapy gym actually had more complete equipment, including a particular item needed but missing from the other place; 7) Food is very good... their kitchen is led by "Chef Tom," and this pride and distinction is carried forth in the food. Chef Tom visited her in her room to understand her food needs and likes; 8) Transport to/from doctors in wheelchair van is included in service, not charged extra. With regard to areas to improve, they are a bit harder for an assistant (me) to help with the client, in that they securely lock up even the most simple of items, such as ice, clean linens, minor kitchen supplies such as utensils and napkins, and the like. This would have no impact on the patient, but sometimes keeps an assisting family member from assisting as well. Regency has had for the past several months a lofty 5-star rating from the U.S. Government Medicare Nursing Home comparison site (limited to top 10% of facilities). I just spent 2 weeks in rehab at Regency. I found the staff responsive and personable, while caring for a wide range of problems and personalities of their patients. The PT and OT staff were excellent and moved my rehab along at just the proper pace. Maintenance staff responded quickly to a minor issue. I would choose Regency, again, if I ever need rehab services again. read more

My grandfather just finished his second stay at this rehab facility. He would have loved to stay longer if he could. Everyone was super friendly and knew him on a first name basis. They were very patient with him and accommodating to his needs. It was always very clean when I was there and he had zero complaints. The workout area is a bit small and could use some expanding but they do a good job at moving people in and out of the "gym" in a timely fashion. The food is actually really good too. They have in house cooks who do a great job and take special requests. A lot of the nurses would take their lunch in my grandfathers room so he wouldn't have to eat alone. I highly recommend this place and know my grandfather would too. read more

Regency has poor security beginning at the front desk. The desk was un -attended most of the time that I visited. I was able to arrive in early afternoons and the coffee carafe was sitting with an untidy and empty cookie plate next to the empty front desk.. My concern was that anyone could enter without signing in ( and who knows who has been in the building? ) or to monitor who might be entering appropriately. The staff was overworked and unable to manage the needs of residents when I would visit. I would spend 2-5 hours at a time with my father. I would take him away from his room to the recreation or dining room. I witnessed more than once food from the meal left on the floor hours after the evening meal. The trays would be removed but the floors left with plastic cups, napkins or food. The nursing stations had phones that rang constantly and unanswered despite a staff member being seated there. Annoying as that is to listen to by all who are in earshot; it demonstrates questionable service. My father's room was often untidy. It was untouched when I would bring him back from visiting elsewhere in the facility. Four hours away seemed a good time for someone to check in - empty trash, check the bed or sweep. There was often staff running a sweeper system in the halls that was quite noisy during prime afternoon visiting hours, however. This happened also on Sundays. There was only one social worker for the entire facility who was quick to point out that she was overloaded and why she could not answer voice mails. The 'other social worker' was on maternity leave. No back-ups for those weeks? My father seemed to enjoy his meals often. Several of the staff made an effort to be friendly but my overall observation was they were involved in self absorbed activities chatting with each other and the few who were attentive could not cover for the others. The attempt to create a 'boutique' rehab center has fallen far short of the mark. It is rather 80's and sparse. I made a career working in commercial design and have at least some experience with this. What I read online and what I saw in person are not the same. read more

My 85-year old husband was admitted to this facility, owned allegedly by one Mohammad Qazi, on 4/15/2019 for the purpose of rehabilitation after surgery to his sacrum. At the time of his admission he was not mobile. His semi-private room was tiny, with the ambience of a Motel 6, such as cheap-looking furniture, stains on the brown carpet, smudges on the wall and not even as much as a cheap calendar photo on the wall for decoration. I had done some research on hospital beds prior to my husband's admission to this facility, and what was in that room was the cheapest of the cheap, noisy to operate and with a thin mattress. The shared toilet was also very small, and there were two sheets of toilet paper on the floor - a minor issue for practical purposes, since my husband could at that time not use the toilet, but not necessarily making it a candidate for the Good Housekeeping Seal either! The room had three sources of light, neither one of which was accessible for a person who was confined to a bed and could barely move. How a patient was supposed to, for example, find the urinal at night under those conditions is a mystery only the management of this fine facility can answer. We arrived in mid afternoon and after a fairly lengthy wait met several of the caretakers, including one person calling herself the dietician. She handed us the menu for the week; one menu for everybody, full of meat and starches, without any choices. When I explained that my husband was a life-long vegetarian she was as taken aback as if I had said that my husband was a cannibal who only ate new-born babies. She meekly suggested that he eat the potatoes for dinner. I finally got the concession that my husband would be given a salad that evening, assuming that they would fix him a nice, big dinner salad. Instead it was a few green leaves, drenched with some pinkish goop. When I called my husband the next morning he was weak, sad and very hungry. By 9:15 he had not yet been served breakfast. When it finally came, it consisted of scrambled eggs and TWO SUGARY DONUTS. Donuts may be beloved by some, but from a dietary point of view they are toxic waste, and offering them as the only nourishment to a patient after a difficult operation borders on the criminal. Even by evening, the facility was not able to offer my husband anything other than green salad leaves with heavy dressing. Even water was scarce: on two visits there was no water glass on his tray table, a fairly dangerous omission. Very quickly did it become clear to me that, despite apparently dedicated (though sparse) nurses and competent PTs, my husband would not only not thrive but that his mental and physical health would quickly deteriorate due to the drab overall surroundings and the abysmally inadequate nutrition. So instead of a stay of several weeks I was able to obtain his release to his own home on the third day. I am fortunate that I have the resources to buy or rent what is needed to care for and rehabilitate an invalid and the time to be a full-time nurse, but I feel truly sad for people who have no choice but to leave their loved ones in this dump and I am also angry because of the rip-off. Unfortunately I was not able to find out how much Ciena Health Care and its owner, Mr. Qazi, are profiting by collecting hefty Medicare payments and spending the least amount possible on their hapless residents, but it must be plenty, since the company has been buying up other nursing facilities at a swift pace. read more

Good care for my wife's rehabilitation from a fractured ankled. She was in and out in 3 weeks. PROS --Staff was professional and very helpful. --Rooms are clean --Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy did their job. She was up and out in 3 weeks. --Very close to U of M Hospital (8 minutes). --U of M professional staff are used. --Free wireless internet connection --Cell phones work well inside facility CONS --Parking is limited because they are inside Ann Arbor proper. 70 rooms and staff and minimal on-site parking. If you visit you could be climbing a hill to visit the facility. --Food is delivered late if the patient decides to eat in their room (e.g., 7:30 PM) Eat in the dining room if the patient wants to eat earlier. --Food lacks healthy choices of fresh fruit or vegetables. --Medications are administered whether needed or not (e.g., loose stools get a anti diarrheal med and if constipated you get a laxative but once prescribed both could be administered). Message is to ask what they are giving you. Overall, a good facility with good people who did what they promised. read more

My sister spent a week at Regency at Bluff's Park after jaw cancer surgery. The room was small, and the bed uncomfortable. The room was directly across from the nurses station, yet she could not get assistance after turning on her light. One time she had to run into the hall when she couldn't breathe because she knew that no one would answer. They kept asking if she needed her trachea cleaned, and she couldn't even talk. Finally, the nurse practitioner came and diagnosed a mucus plug. She layed on dirty, bloody sheets as they only change them every 3 days. Company had to ask for them to be changed. They seldom cleaned the room. She emptied her own garbage when it was full. She reported to the doctor that the wound specialist didn't clean her neck, and the doctor told her she just didn't remember. She came from the hospital with a c-diff infection, yet no precautions were taken by the staff. After the medical assistant told her blood pressure was 80/60 she said that he should call a nurse. He just asked if he should retake it. She was on a feeding tube, and the Osmolite food was making her congested and sick. They brought her a tray of jello, coffee and broth that she wasn't allowed to have instead. She told the staff 5 days in a row that the stitches on her chin looked infected and were draining. They said it was fine. In fact, after going back for a hospital doctor appointment they diagnosed her with a pseudomonas infection which took two rounds of Levofloxacin antibiotic to cure it. She also had to have the leak site surgically removed during reconstruction surgery as it had attached itself. When I picked up my sister on the last day, she said to me: " I would rather die than go back to a nursing home." I think that says it all. read more

My rehabilitation stay at Regency at Bluffs Park was the biggest regret of my life! Don't be fooled by the initial overall appearance of this facility, as it is very deceiving from what lies underneath. The lack of communication and competency amongst the staff endangered the care of the residents there. During my stay i saw other patients neglected on a daily basis, including seeing them left hanging off of their beds waiting hours for assistance, patient's that were repeatedly unfed, patients who were incorrectly and inappropriately medicated and sedated and mistreated. I was definitely in fear for my safety and of alienating the wrong people. I am so glad to be home now, but fear for others left behind and still at the mercy of this facility! read more

Don't be fooled by the initial overall appearance of this facility, as it is very deceiving from what lies underneath. The lack of communication and competency amongst the staff neglected, if not endangered the care of the residents there. My mothers food orders were never right, it was a fight to get her diet right, to see a doctor and honestly, the PT staff there was a joke. The nurses/techs were nice, but not very attentive. The maintenance staff was more then lacking, also. Overall just a bad, bad experience. Look elsewhere. read more

This was my mom's third visit to this facility. The OT and PT are great and some staff are outstanding but CENA staffing levels were horrible given the needs of the patients. The more care a person needed the more they were neglected. The experienced CENA's often call in at the last minute especially at night and weekends leaving only two of the least experienced to move patients requiring Hoyer lifts( a two person job), change 6-8 colostomy bags, change adult briefs, wash up non mobile residents. My mother's teeth and dentures were never cleaned and she developed thrush. Even though she was there for rehab she was left in bed until I requested that PT write an order that she be up for all meals so that she could exercise, She was hit in the face twice during Hoyer lifts, had her arm pulled so hard that her pecs were hurt resulting in so much pain that the staff thought she was having a heart attack, had her ribs injured during a rough transfer, had a terrible cough that was not dx as pneumonia until after her discharge, became dehydrated because water was out of her reach. There were two medication errors. There was an order that all her meat be cut into small bites but this frequently did not happen. Her care was so poor that I needed to be there 9 + hours every day to advocate for her care. I discharged her after 5 weeks because she was making limited progress due to this neglect and abuse. I frequently reported these issues to the director in writing and was told that it was very hard to find and keep CENA's. Every day when I arrived I pick up dirty sometimes urine soaked clothing that was all over the room, pick up dirty and wet washcloths, towels and bibs, ask to have dirty bed linen changed. She had orders for a ice pack 3x day which was only done once until I figured out where I could get one and take it to her. She had orders for daily leg wraps which were frequently not done. My mother is blind and during each of her three admissions it was clear that neither the nursing staff or Cena's understood what accommodations needed to be made for the visually impaired. Most shocking of all was that this facility made Newsweek's 1916 list of Best Nursing Homes. On admission it took 6 hrs for someone to figure out how bathrooming would be done and to get a nursing assessment even though my mom was was actively bleeding from removal of her hospital IV site. There was no one to do any orientation other than to put us in a room. Many staff did not wear name tags or identify who they were or what their role was. I did not have one day that I felt I could take a day off. We were both physically and emotionally exhausted by this experience. read more

I was very impressed with how upbeat almost all the staff were in comparison to Glacier Hills where I also stayed. The latter seemed to be short-staffed, and half seemed disgruntled. Not at all true at Regency. Also I had a private room at Regency, while at Glacier, there was a cloth divider for a hall leading to another room and that tenant's TV kept me awake until 2AM. The food at Regency was superb, another positive comparison with Glacier Hills. Fortunately I had to be re-hospitalized after my stay at Glacier and I then chose Regency for rehab This all happened earlier this year, so my comparisons are close in time. I eventually got a bill for phone use at Glacier, while it's free at Regency. I conclusion, I want to emphasize how friendly and helpful the staff were at Regency. I was there a month, it was like a pleasant vacation. When I was at Glacier, I developed an infected IV line site. The Glacier staff ignored it. Fortunately, a nurse practitioner from the U of M hospital came by, saw my condition, and ordered my immediate re-admission at the U of M hospital. I tell everyone, if you need rehab, go to Regency. read more

I stayed at the Regency at Bluff's Park for about 2 weeks, having come straight from UM Hospital. Initially I required more than just routine physical therapy. I was quite sick, although recovering. I found their level of care to be outstanding! They were very attentive to my multiple needs - from diet, to therapy, medication adjustment and administration, to bathing. Whenever I pushed the call button (no matter what time), someone was there within 2 minutes. All of the staff was nice and pleasant. When there was a shift change, it seemed to be seamless. Obviously the staff talked or read notes, because the crew coming on was updated with my condition and knew of any changes. Everything seemed very organized. Physical and Occupational Therapies were scheduled to meet my needs and they were always on-time. In addition, the facility was very clean and a very pleasant environment. I could never have cared for myself like they did. I recovered and went home ready and able live independently. I am most thankful for the expert care I received at the Bluffs! read more
