PRO8mm and specifically Darlene at PRO8 THANK YOU. Seriously. There was in issue with one of my first rolls of super 8 kinda disappearing( but you got it to me on a free flash drive ASAP) Just wanna say seriously thank you guys and the whole PRO8MM team. You return the footage soooo much quicker than other places I've used and your team has always been super helpful through all of my super8 and 16mm learning snafus. Mahalos read more

I see all these reviews saying the guy behind the counter has attitude or whatever - I think people just aren't use to someone who is monotone - they were helpful with the questions I asked and helped explain to me what I should do to protect the film while flying. read more

recently visited Pro8mm based on a strong recommendation from a trusted friend. I brought in my Chinon Cds EM5000 16mm camera hoping to get it checked out. However, my experience was unfortunately disappointing. The staff member who assisted me was dismissive and offered little to no support. Despite the prominent "16mm" signage on the building, I was told they don't service that camera, with no further guidance or suggestions provided. The interaction felt cold and unwelcoming, which made me feel out of place--as if my presence or questions weren't valued simply because I'm not a seasoned film expert. I understand not every shop services every model, but a more professional and respectful approach would've gone a long way. I came in with genuine interest and respect for the craft, and I expected at least a basic level of customer service. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as it's important for creative communities like this to remain approachable and inclusive to both experienced professionals and newcomers alike. read more

Used to be my go to lab - my scans were messed up multiple times & they refused to rescan without an additional payment. Even when they had acknowledged the mistake was on their end. Very weird behavior. Happened to multiple other friends in the film industry. Spectra is way better - take your money and film there. Amazingly kind staff and so helpful. read more

I remember this place before it was Pro8mm during the early 1980's when super 8 was at its peak. I remember having spoke to the owner at the time (maybe he still is?) Phil V. was his name. Super nice guy and was trying to figure out what people wanted in super 8. Fast forward to today and I read these reviews. This is not the place I knew. Back then, the crew was great, the owner was personable, and they were loved. Based on what I have read here, I would suggest people get their film, development, and scans from The Film Photography Project. They're good people and the prices are reasonable. read more

We absolutely love working with Pro8mm for all our Super 8 needs. We are a wedding documentation duo and specialize in analog film coverage, Pro8mm ensures we're able to deliver incredible scans in an incredibly timely manner - we have tried other labs and the service and turnaround time has never measured up, we won't go anywhere else. read more

Pro8mm - Video/Film Production Near Me - Burbank, California

Planning to shoot some Super 8 footage for an event, I went in for advice on what type of film to buy. Explained that I wanted to have a projectable reel as well as the digital scan and asked what would be best for that + time of day/type of lighting, etc. Bought film based on their recommendations, only to find out after they had processed the footage and returned it that there was no projectable reel and that there couldn't be as that isn't possible with the type of film I bought based on their recommendation. Even when dropping off the film and confirming that I wanted a projectable reel, no one corrected that this wouldn't be possible. I had to call a couple times after picking up the order to get an answer as to why. This place has always been highly reviewed in the past, but this was incredibly disappointing given how I'd asked specific questions regarding my needs for the film and was simply given incorrect answers from start to finish. read more

I needed to get my video camera fixed and I called the shop ahead to make sure that they work on my type of cameras. I was told that they do. The next day when I arrived at the shop, i was turned away saying that they don't do repairs on my camera model. Wtf, Pro8mm? Guess I just drove there for 40 minutes for nothing. read more

Literally says 8mm in their name and on their front window yet they sent me on my way within a minute of walking in. Lady at front desk was not helpful at all and seemed more concerned with kicking me out then actually offering any help. Waste of time. wtf is happening to Pro8mm?? Last time I went here, my cartridge was blank and they blamed my camera and said they couldnt refund me. After the boss personally inspected my camera, he determined it was not my camera's fault, and I even had it serviced right before. He gave me a new cartridge, but didn't include the pre-paid package i'd paid for , so It came out of my pocket for their mistake. Then, in May I brought another roll and a hard drive there- the same HD I always use exclusively for Pro8mm with the cord, because it requires a special cord unlike my other drives. I was contacted and told the drive couldn't be mounted, so brought in another. When I picked up the drives, they didn't have my original drive cord and claimed I never brought it in (it is ALWAYS attached and in a bag and is only used for pro8mm dropoffs). Guess who will have to pay for their mistake, again? Me. There is no accountability here. I'm looking at these others reviews and seeing I'm far from the only person with these issues, which is why i'm adding my voice. Shame on Pro8mm for gaslighting their customers. It really should be such a simple and organized service especially for people like me who bring in a single roll once or twice a year. read more

the scans are horrible quality. they come back with dirt and hair. they lost my drive that was sent to them and did not even offer to replace. asked for help with dirty scans and was told it was normal. very experienced filmmaker and I am not fooled by their BS. they only have business because there are so few doing it. but 100% recommend any other company. read more

Have used this place multiple times and every time I use them, my super8 film ALWAYS comes back blank. They say it's not their fault and something must be wrong with my camera or the way I load my film. I've checked my camera and tested it to make sure it's functioning and it passes all the tests they tell me to perform. As great as it is to have a "local" spot to drop film off, I wouldn't recommend using their services. read more

Little things in life are more precious than your wedding day. Now picture this. You rent a video camera to capture the unforgettable members of you, your spouse, and your family(some who are in the terminal stages of cancer), and the video camera doesn't arrive on time like the company(Pro8mm) said. Then, when you don't receive the camera and have it immediately mailed back(unused), the company doesn't offer a refund or even an apology for incorrectly saying that you will have your camera for the day of the wedding. All in all, a lot of basic expectations were missed and not even an apology from the company was issued when we called, let alone a refund. In the day and age of online competition, it's sad to see a company like this, push against customer service and not take the side of a high paying customer like us. PLEASE, do not use this company and please don't rely on this company for an important event like a wedding. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I wish I had seen these reviews before I placed my order. I ordered a camera to be used at my wedding. It arrived late and I was totally unable to use the camera or the film. I had only rented it for the day of and had to send it back the following morning by 11am or be charged for another day plus extra fees. When I reached out about how it arrived late and I was unable to use it, I received NO RESPONSES to my concerns on an ongoing text thread I already had regarding my order with 2 SEPARATE pro8mm employees. Over a week later I received an email from a third employee asking for the paperwork to develop our film. I responded that I was unable to use the camera or film and had emailed my complaints about what happened to the two other employees and had been awaiting a response. NO RESPONSE. 2 WEEKS LATER - still no response from any 3 employees. I sent a final email requesting a refund and detailing exactly why and asking for an update or a response from anyone. The next day I received a $70 refund for the shipping costs (just the shipping to me I paid for) and still no response to ANY of my emails. I also tried calling and did not receive any calls back. I cannot explain how disappointed we were by the outcome of using this company. If I had known that the overnight FedEx shipping that we paid so much for would be delayed, we would've rented for 2 days. I WANTED to use the camera. Instead, we essentially flushed over $300 down the toilet, added extra stress to what was supposed to be (& was despite pro8mm) a beautiful day, and missed the opportunity to have that footage for our wedding video. Just absolutely so disappointing. Honestly, if any of the employees, a manager, a receptionist - ANYONE - had responded with any sort of empathy or understanding I would leave a better review. But I'm convinced there's a bunch of individuals working at pro8mm who don't have anything invested in the success of the company, or they wouldn't treat people so poorly. I repeat - do not use this company. Save your money and sanity and spend it literally anywhere else. read more

I not a person who regularly leaves reviews. But this experience is one I cant ignore. I sent in 2 cartridges to be developed and scanned at 4K, and my Canon 310xl for a CLA because it was having issues with the tele-wide zoom motor. About $800-900 worth of business altogether. I wish I had not sent them my Canon camera because what I got back in return was a rebranded "Rhonda Cam." All the original Canon logos had been replaced with name plates that they use to sell various super8 cameras as a "Rhonda Cam." This is extremely sad because this was my grandfather's camera which he passed down to me, and I just wanted it CLA'd so I could continue to use it in the future. But now it looks/feels like it's been ruined. It's like if you took your car to a mechanic to get it fixed, but the mechanic removed all the car's original logos and replaced them with the shop's logo. I've had other camera's CLA'd before and shops NEVER do anything like this unless you specifically request it. And those 2 rolls of film? In my order I specified them to be returned to me, but I'm still waiting. No notification that they've been shipped, nothing. I wish I could go back in time so that I could avoid the mistake of trying to CLA my camera with these guys. At least I would still have my grandfather's original Canon 310xl instead of an awful looking "Rhonda Cam." My message to Pro8mm: The default option for a CLA/repair should be to restore the camera as close to the original spec as possible. Don't go rebranding cameras unless someone specifically requests it or you've bought the camera from the client for the purpose of reselling. read more

We ordered and paid for the 4K Advanced Scanning and they delivered 720P Mpeg. They said that we did not go back to a dropdown on their (terrible) app and de-select basic scanning after we selected and paid for 4K scanning. There is zero way that I or the producer would have ever selected 720P... especially since we selected, ordered, and paid for 4K. I was told that the only solution was to COMPLETELY PAY AGAIN for a new 4K scan from scratch. I had another order at the same time where 4K was ordered and delivered and I did nothing different, so the mistake is clearly on their end. Again, they refuse to correct their mistake. read more

I've never used Yelp before in my life but here I am telling you to take your business elsewhere. They charged me an extra $20 for a pro res file despite giving me an mp4, taking my extra $20 with no refund. When I asked for a rescan they told me it would cost $100. When I asked if I could pick up the roll to have it scanned somewhere else they told me they could not find it and to call back another day. They don't respond to emails, and I have been on and off calling them for multiple weeks now. Very rude staff. My first time getting my super 8 film developed and scanned and they made it super easy and I was super happy with the product!!!!

Dropped off two rolls of film for developing and scanning. Took twice as long as they said it would take. The first roll came back blank, second roll was fine. They didn't notify me that there was a problem with the film. I had to discover it on my own when I watched the scans. It was extremely embarrassing to watch the footage and not have anything there. I had to contact them so they could say they forgot to put a not in the with the film at pick up and that they forgot to call and email me about it. They said I should have the camera inspected even though the second roll was completely fine. To summarize it up, they are slow to deliver, don't care about quality control, and there is no point to call customer service because you'll just be annoying them. Also scans look dusty. read more

Worked with Pro8 on a music video I just directed. The experience of working with them could not have been better! Every step of the way, they were there to accommodate me and my crew and provide us with everything we needed. The camera rental and developing process both happened without a hitch. And the 4K scans of our film looked AMAZING! They even delivered the processed film to us earlier than we hoped, and for that reason, we were able to wrap post production a full day ahead of schedule. I cannot wait to work with them again! I also wanted to give a special shout-out to Darlene, who was our point person at Pro8. Darlene is the absolute best! Super courteous and helpful. A+ customer service. Thank you again, Darlene! read more

My boyfriend and I had a roll of expired film and unfortunately this is the only place that is able to take it in (and ship it out for development). We brought it here in March, and called to check in about a month later in April to see what the progress was. A female employee told us that it should be ready for us by early June, as this process takes a couple of months, but assured us it was being processed and to check back in. Fast forward to today (5/29) - we called back in to check and see how things were going. A woman answered (presumably the same employee we spoke with last time), and let us know that they hadn't even SHIPPED our film out yet, and they aren't doing their next shipment until 6/10. We're really bummed out because this film was supposed to be apart of my Mother's birthday gift (which we were planning to edit and deliver to her next month). Now, because of this horrendous lack of communication, we probably won't receive it for another 2-3 months. (5-6 months after we dropped it off.) *We have been getting emails letting us know that they're still operating during COVID quarantine, so that can't be an excuse.* Next time we'll think twice about trusting Pro8mm as the 'middle man' with our precious film, and instead ship it somewhere ourselves. What a waste of time! read more

Scanning and development from them has always been fine but much prefer to drop off without interacting with their staff. Every interaction I've had so far with them has been really dismissive, not informative or helpful and rude. They have screwed me multiple times saying they'll deliver one day and then the film ends up being 2 weeks late. This one though takes the cake. They call on Wednesday, I'm at an elopement, limited service. Mind you I've been developing and scanning film through them for almost a year. Last week I notice the voicemail looking for the address that's on file, sent to them in the envelope AND on the envelope the film was sent in. So they already have it in three places plus any previous communication and client files previous to that. But yet they're calling me to address where the film is going...? Simultaneously at this point the film should have already been sent... I wrote an email acknowledging that the film was on a short time crunch and needed to be in my hands by Monday at the latest. It is now Wednesday of the following week and they're JUST getting around to mailing it now. I'm beyond frustrated -- I won't see the film for another two weeks, and nor will my clients who I must now refund. Pro8mm is doing nothing. Nothing for a regular customer of almost a year. I'm beyond frustrated and going through my bank tk address a refund of services since Pro8 will do absolutely nothing. Updating: When I called to try to have this addressed Ilani SCREAMED at me and talked over me making it impossible to address anything at all. It was an incredibly difficult situation, and I cannot believe anyone would talk to a customer that way. If she worked for me she would be fired immediately. read more

Got a few rolls of film developed here. All in all, gave them around $1000 worth of business. I wish I read more reviews before using them, because almost every time I went there was some problem. In the past, they'd been decent about rectifying mistakes, but today was really the last straw for me. Their "sprocket form" system sucks. I work in post-production, so I know a little more about file formats than the average customer might. If I'm paying extra for a "production scan" at a higher resolution with log color, why would I want it as a compressed mp4? Maybe I didn't see the option to change that on the sprocket form, but when I called and asked about it, I was informed I'd have to pay for a rescan. I just think that's kind of bogus - when you sell an upgrade like that production scan, from the consumer end, we assume we're going to be delivered the highest quality you can deliver. Not that there's some other box we have to check on the stupid online form to actually get a high quality file. I assume what happened is that I filled it out on my phone, and that box probably wasn't even visible. No way I'd pick an mp4 on purpose. read more

I'll spare readers the sordid details of my wholly unsatisfactory experience with Pro8mm. Simply put, Pro8mm failed to do the job I paid them for, which was a professional transfer from 16mm negative film to 2K digital files. Despite repeated attempts by Pro8mm to perform the work correctly, and despite acknowledging that they had come up short, the company manager refused to refund my money, and the owners never returned my calls. After a fruitless dispute with my credit card company, in which Pro8mm dishonestly denied any culpability, I was left with no alternative but to take Pro8mm to Small Claims Court. In order to prove my case, I had one of the most reputable Burbank film and video post-production labs perform a QC Report on Pro8mm's files. I won't mention the lab's name because that company doesn't want to dish publicly on competitors. The QC Report concluded that "Source scans have been deemed unusable for final color correction." Nine of ten specific sections of the digital files that the lab evaluated received the lowest Severity Rating, defined as "Severe. Will interfere with program viewing or technically unacceptable." My case was heard by a Superior Court judge in Pasadena in February, 2019. I presented numerous samples of Pro8mm's work to the judge, along with the QC Report. Then Phil Vigeant, the owner of Pro8mm, defended his company, again denying any wrongdoing. The judge ruled in my favor. Pro8mm had to refund me 100% of the money I had paid them, plus court expenses. Pro8mm did not appeal the decision. In conclusion, Pro8mm's incompetence and failure to behave honorably cost me a tremendous amount of time, effort, and money. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but boy, there is a man that works there that is so rude! He always has a bad attitude for no reason, even when I kill him with kindness. The staff was extremely pretentious, didn't actually want to help out, and when I asked them about which film was best to use that will later be projected, the staff recommended rolls that ended up projecting only negatives. They also kept trying to upcharge me, and trying to take advantage of the fact that I was not super well versed in super 8mm film. Extremely unpleasant to work with.
