The last thing I expected was to need rotator cuff surgery during a pandemic, and believe me, I was…read morenot happy to be going in person to see doctors, but this clinic is doing everything right, and I do feel as safe as I think is possible these days when I have to go to see my surgeon or my physical therapists. I agree with everything Leah O. said in her review about Dr. Aimee Klapach, and indeed, Leah's review is a big part of what led me to Dr. Klapach. Some people might think it's strange to find a doctor on Yelp, but I trust my Yelpers!! Before I went to see Dr. Klapach, I had been seeing doctors at FairView University for the better part of last year. I wish I had gone to see Dr. Klapach right away. I doubt she would have made me wait 8 months and jump through numerous hoops before telling me that surgery was inevitable. I can't ever get those eight months back, but thanks to Dr. Klapach, I am slowly getting back my range of motion, and I believe my pain is already less than it was before surgery, most of the time. I just had the surgery in December (which went great, by the way! They do it in an orthopedic facility, not a hospital, so my Covid fears were lessened), so it has only been a short time, and recovery for rotator cuff surgery is notoriously slow. But Dr. Klapach and her assistant Bradley are with you every step of the way, going above and beyond, to the point where the surgeon will actually pick up a phone and call you. Yes, I just about fell on the floor the first time that happened. Dr. Klapach really cares, and so do her staff. I am also really happy with the physical therapists on site. They do a great job, and are available by phone or email if you have questions about the exercises. Side note: They have recently re-branded to Allina Orthopaedics, but they are still the same great clinic with the same caring staff.

Look, I'm not gonna waste your time with all of my injury details. If you're looking at this page,…read moreyou're probably broken and vulnerable, and you just need to know the facts. Fact: "Expert" doesn't begin to describe Dr. Aimee Klapach, MD. She does 270 knee surgeries a year, a fact I kept repeating to myself when I was having anxiety spin-outs in the weeks before my ACL reconstruction surgery. That depth of experience matters when you're literally trusting someone with your limbs. Fact: She's a super conservative surgeon, bless her heart. She never tells me what I want to hear. She tells me what I need to hear. I don't want a risk-taking, skydiving bro giving me health advice. I want someone who's gonna tell me that "If it were my sister, I wouldn't do it" when I ask if I can fly to a wedding a few weeks after surgery because there's a small chance I could get DVT and die. She obviously didn't love disappointing me. But she takes her job seriously enough to be a firm advocate for my healing and my body, and at the end of the day that's what I need. Fact: Her work is excellent. I'm 9 weeks out from surgery and my knee is healing beautifully. I followed her directions and the result is that nothing has gone wrong: no infections, no mistakes, no risks, no mishaps. Just steady improvements day after day, which is all I can really ask for. Fact: She has an incredible team working with her. They called me the evening after my surgery to check in- which at the time felt like an incredible kindness- and when I have questions they always call me back within a few hours. Her scheduler was wonderful, and made sure we had everything we needed to prepare for surgery. I've always found it easy to book appointments, and Dr. Klapach goes to a variety of locations, making it easy to find a time and place that works with my schedule. I feel so lucky that I landed in her care, and can't recommend her enough.

Definitely not the worst PT experience but less than lukewarm and I have experienced much better…read more I've had chronic lower back and shoulder pain since a hip surgery a few years ago (read: I'm a hot mess). Having just moved to MPLS, I decided to try out some PT at this location. It is a huge operation, run by Fairview. I generally avoid large medical practices because it is super impersonal, and I had a really bad experience at a similarly large, brand name hospital. However, this was located conveniently on the METRO green line, and recommended by my insurance so I tried it. My actual PT came across as really fake. I could tell she really didn't enjoy her work as she was looking at her watch and the clock all the time. I know it is unreasonable to expect people to love their jobs, but when you are providing a healthcare service and getting paid a lot for it, it would be nice if you didn't let this show, and still did a good job. Appointments felt super rushed, and most recently she even answered the phone in the middle of manual treatment (even though there was another PT around without a patient who could have answered it) which was really shocking to me. As someone who has been in a lot of PT, I have never had something like this occur. As a mathematician, I really appreciate a problem solving approach to things like this, and I have had PTs who were really interested in investigating the root cause of why I might be in so much pain all the time. Unfortunately, her treatment came across as really surface level and hard to trust.

After the first visit, my sleep improved and I learned how to better manage my pain. I've returned faithfully for more strength training and have found good results from every visit. The staff is SUPER knowledgeable and very friendly. I feel as if a long-term solution is in reach. If your doctor suggests a visit, I encourage you to do so. Update: And two weeks later, the pain is worse than when I started. Worse yet, the Dr. blew off my appointment, literally leaving me standing in the exam room for 20 minutes; never even checked in. I like the staff, but I won't be back (Ow! Bad pun!).

I have to admit -- when I first went to visit PNBC, I was a skeptic. I have a herniated disc in my…read morelower back, and I had reached the point where I was sure I would be in pain and unable to lift anything for the rest of my life. The folks at PNBC have got it right, though. Their entire philosophy is that you can work to strengthen the muscles in your back that support your spine to lessen your pain and discomfort and make you a stronger individual. Your pain may never go away entirely, but you can definitely help your own situation by working through this program. No lies: It's not easy. It's really hard work -- basically strength training. There is specialized equipment designed to help isolate the muscles in your back so that you are only working those muscles. The thing I loved (and the thing I think that sets PNBC apart) is that each of your sessions is supervised by a professional. They're there for every single rep of every single exercise and make sure that you're not going to hurt yourself as you do your workout. The trainers are all really nice and patient with you. Shout out to Mike and all the other trainers who helped me along the way! They would even do things like teach me extra skills, like how to lift heavy items properly so that I wouldn't reinjure myself. I did about 10 weeks of sessions, and the improvement was remarkable. I was able to get off my prescription antinflamatory meds. I am able to operate as a normal human being. I am able to sit in my chair at work for eight hours without feeling like my back is on fire. I am able to go hiking with my family (we did it last weekend!). I realy credit PNBC with helping me to reclaim my normally functioning life. My husband even told me after our hike this weekend, "You couldn't have done that a year ago." And he's right! I did buy the roman chair... I know people say PNBC just tries to sell everyone a roman chair. But using the chair after my training was over has helped me maintain the strength in my back and also improve my general flexibility. I would say it's worth it. And I would also point out that they don't actually sell the chair to you... they just refer you to a retailer. So it's not that they are pushing you to buy just because it's more money that you pay to them. It's been almost half a year since I left my regular training sessions at PNBC, and my back still feels great. I do the home workouts with the roman chair and enjoy my generally normal life (at least as far as my back is concerned!). I do try to avoid lifting things above about 30 pounds just to be cautious, but I CAN do it when I have to. I still have days where I have a bit of discomfort. Sometimes I just do too much physical activity in a day and I can feel it in my back. But an Advil is usually all I need. The difference has been most remarkable, and I am so thankful for all of the kind folks at PNBC! PS - this location is actually in Roseville. Not sure why it's listed as St. Paul.
