The last thing I expected was to need rotator cuff surgery during a pandemic, and believe me, I was…read morenot happy to be going in person to see doctors, but this clinic is doing everything right, and I do feel as safe as I think is possible these days when I have to go to see my surgeon or my physical therapists. I agree with everything Leah O. said in her review about Dr. Aimee Klapach, and indeed, Leah's review is a big part of what led me to Dr. Klapach. Some people might think it's strange to find a doctor on Yelp, but I trust my Yelpers!! Before I went to see Dr. Klapach, I had been seeing doctors at FairView University for the better part of last year. I wish I had gone to see Dr. Klapach right away. I doubt she would have made me wait 8 months and jump through numerous hoops before telling me that surgery was inevitable. I can't ever get those eight months back, but thanks to Dr. Klapach, I am slowly getting back my range of motion, and I believe my pain is already less than it was before surgery, most of the time. I just had the surgery in December (which went great, by the way! They do it in an orthopedic facility, not a hospital, so my Covid fears were lessened), so it has only been a short time, and recovery for rotator cuff surgery is notoriously slow. But Dr. Klapach and her assistant Bradley are with you every step of the way, going above and beyond, to the point where the surgeon will actually pick up a phone and call you. Yes, I just about fell on the floor the first time that happened. Dr. Klapach really cares, and so do her staff. I am also really happy with the physical therapists on site. They do a great job, and are available by phone or email if you have questions about the exercises. Side note: They have recently re-branded to Allina Orthopaedics, but they are still the same great clinic with the same caring staff.

Look, I'm not gonna waste your time with all of my injury details. If you're looking at this page,…read moreyou're probably broken and vulnerable, and you just need to know the facts. Fact: "Expert" doesn't begin to describe Dr. Aimee Klapach, MD. She does 270 knee surgeries a year, a fact I kept repeating to myself when I was having anxiety spin-outs in the weeks before my ACL reconstruction surgery. That depth of experience matters when you're literally trusting someone with your limbs. Fact: She's a super conservative surgeon, bless her heart. She never tells me what I want to hear. She tells me what I need to hear. I don't want a risk-taking, skydiving bro giving me health advice. I want someone who's gonna tell me that "If it were my sister, I wouldn't do it" when I ask if I can fly to a wedding a few weeks after surgery because there's a small chance I could get DVT and die. She obviously didn't love disappointing me. But she takes her job seriously enough to be a firm advocate for my healing and my body, and at the end of the day that's what I need. Fact: Her work is excellent. I'm 9 weeks out from surgery and my knee is healing beautifully. I followed her directions and the result is that nothing has gone wrong: no infections, no mistakes, no risks, no mishaps. Just steady improvements day after day, which is all I can really ask for. Fact: She has an incredible team working with her. They called me the evening after my surgery to check in- which at the time felt like an incredible kindness- and when I have questions they always call me back within a few hours. Her scheduler was wonderful, and made sure we had everything we needed to prepare for surgery. I've always found it easy to book appointments, and Dr. Klapach goes to a variety of locations, making it easy to find a time and place that works with my schedule. I feel so lucky that I landed in her care, and can't recommend her enough.

I asked him why he doesn't do MACI anymore, but he wouldn't say why. He emailed me back saying to email his administrator, Amanda Peña, to arrange for him to review my records. I emailed her about getting my records to him, asked what his reasoning is for not doing MACI anymore, and if he would recommend OCA for me. She did not answer any of my questions and just said that he would be happy to review my imaging and records, and that he can't offer a full recommendation without also doing a physical examination. I emailed Amanda on May 18 asking when would be the earliest appointment available, and again, asked what his reasoning is for not doing MACI anymore and if he does OCA. She did not respond. I tried emailing her, calling her, left voicemails, and submitted my questions/request for an appointment on Dr. LaPrade's website and on the TCOMN website. No one ever responded. I didn't know what else to do, so I contacted the records department on June 10. They responded to me on June 16 and said that someone would reach out to me. Christa Johnson, a Patient Advocate, told me that LaPrade wouldn't take on my case. I emailed her back and told her that Dr. LaPrade said he wouldn't make treatment recommendations without examining me and reviewing my reports. I asked her why that changed. I also told her that the last surgeon I saw was the only one out of everyone I've seen who recommended MACI/TTO, so it didn't make sense to continue treatment with him. Furthermore, I wanted to get care locally in MN, and Dr. LaPrade was recommended to me. Christa never responded to my questions or emailed me back. I tried emailing Dr. LaPrade again about getting an appointment ASAP. No one responded. Because of the lack of communication I received, I didn't know what else to do other than to drive to the clinic to schedule an appointment since no one was helping me. The following week I get a voicemail from Paula. She says that Dr. LaPrade is not going to take on my case. I call her back and ask why, but she won't explain. To sum it up, I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with the lack of communication and consideration of Dr. LaPrade and his team. They are disrespectful, neglectful, and it is completely inexcusable for them to treat me the way they did. I spent almost 2 months trying to get an appointment, and in the end, it was a huge waste of my time and energy. And it was a major letdown. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

The long and short of it is that Kevin Lingren told me to go see Dr. Ed Santos. Dr Ed Santos told me to go see Dr. Saber. Dr Saber then sent me back to Ed Santos and Ed Santos sent me back to Kevin Lingren. I still have no resolution or understand what is wrong with me and it has been 6 months. I am very frustrated with Summit Orthopedics. Just to provide some background - the weekend of May 18, 2024 this started. By that Monday I struggled to walk up the stairs. The first week the pain was in my lower back. I was still able to function normally albeit slowly. Second week I started having trouble sitting. Third week I could not sit at all. It was so painful I had to lie on the floor all the time. The pain was very severe in my left hip and especially in my hip flexors. It felt like it was the entire left hip, front, back and side. First I saw a hip doctor Kevin Lingren on June 7 2024. He took X-rays, looked at them and said my hips are healthy and the problem was probably originating from my spine. No physical exam. He prescribed steroids for me. I made an appointment to see the surgeon Dr Ed Santos. I was impaired greatly and can barely make it through my day. I finally get to see his PA. I complained that the pain was so bad in my left hip flexors, two of them, one in my groin and the one leading to my quadricep. Hurt so bad I could not function. I had to ask for a physical exam. I still don't feel like I had a comprehensive exam, I thought I had more than one thing happening to me but no one addressed another potential issue, they just kept saying severe stenosis. An MRI and PT was prescribed. I could not get into see the PT because they were very busy so I started doing very gentle movements at home. I could not function normally. I could not go to the gym, grocery store or work. I could not function when I got out of bed. I couldn't even prepare something to eat or tie my shoes. I started doing PT movements at home. I watched hours of you tube videos every day to hopefully gain a little knowledge on what might be happening with me, I still had no idea and the doctors did not give me any information beyond stenosis and me having a 6th lumbar vertebrae (which the MRI never mentioned). Since they have the knowledge I would expect that one of these doctors would do a physical exam and could explain what was happening to me. oth hip Flexors were so painful I could not cough or take a deep breath. It hurt too bad to sit on the toilet so I used a female urinal. I couldn't bend over to feed my dogs. I had to lay down on the floor all day every day, either on my back or on my stomach. I ate on the floor. I worked from home laying on my back looking up at the monitors placed on the edge of my desk. EVERY DAY I would watch HOURS of you tube videos to find out how I could help myself and do gentle rehab on myself. My range of motion was poor. My left leg was weak, especially my knee and hip flexors. I fought every day to get it back. I couldn't do anything or go anywhere unless I did rehab. I couldn't take a shower or get ready without having to spend 20 or 30 minutes on the floor to reset my hips. I couldn't drive. I had to wait 6 weeks to go see the surgeon to go over the MRI results. I was in agony. Crying daily. I felt my life was over. I didn't know what was wrong with me. Finally I got to see Dr Santos and he barely spent 5 minutes with me. No physical examination whatsoever. I still was not getting any information. He didn't explain it to me or how/why it happened. Spending time with me to explain this would have helped me a lot. Instead he told me that I basically have stenosis on the left side of my L5/L6. He said he didn't think I would need surgery and he recommended me to go see MD, Dr Saber. I finally was able to see dr. Saber's PA. Although I know the diagnosis of stenosis was accurate, my symptoms are not consistent with stenosis, they are consistent with a soft tissue injury. I passed a lot of the tests they give me because I am physically fit but no one bothered to test my hip flexors even though that is what I have been complaining about the entire time. I failed my left knee jerk reaction. She gave me no physical examination. I was frustrated. I left crying. I was injured on May 20th 2024 and now it is November 10th 2024 I am doing much better but still suffer a little. I still can't really sit in an office chair so I have a sit/stand desk. At home I moved my recliner to my desk. I still have to take Advil and Tylenol but probably half of the day instead of the whole day. I am taking all my information and my MRIs to go see a real doctor at Twin Cities Spine Center. The reason I am better now is because of ME. I want these drs to hear this. They did not help me during a time when I needed it.

A few days earlier I was stepping up onto a curb and heard a pop in the back of my knee. I was able to walk to where I was going, however after that, it was very painful. After 3 days of icing and tylenol, it wasn't getting much better. Time to have a professional take a look. I considered Urgent Care. Looking around at the different locations, some had x-ray and MRI and some did not. Then I thought about making an appointment with an orthopedist. It was then that I noticed that there was an orthopedic urgent care. I elected to visit the Summit Orthopedics in Woodbury. We arrived when they opened and registered. We were seen within 10 minutes. After taking some pictures of my knee, I met with a gentleman named Larry who examined my knee. He explained and showed us while there is no damage, there is arthritis. I was able to get an injection into my knee which wasn't as bad as I expected. This helped a lot with the pain. He then advised lots of ice and time. Really appreciate the information and care I received at Summit Orthopedics in Woodbury.
