Handled color film negatives extremely poorly, leaving adhesive residue on the negative in the majority of orders which showed up on the scan. Further poor handling of B&W negatives with dust and dirt showing on the scan. The store manager contacted me on 03/29/25 to state that they would be unable to process my recent order as the head technician felt that he would be unable to achieve the "quality I expect", which is simply a scan without the residue or anomalies. For context, I gave Pro Image over $2000 worth of business in the last 2 year period. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this incompetent business. What can I say? This is the Cheers bar of film photography, the place where everyone knows your name, because you'll wind up going there again and again. They offer a broad variety of services, including developing, scanning, printing (both "drugstore" prints and fine art) and offer a broad variety of frames. Want to do a photo book? They do that, too. Need a film camera, 35mm and 120 film, or a passport photo? They've got you covered. All this wonderfulness is VERY competitively priced, especially by Manhattan standards. Quality is first-rate; I've been going there for years and never had an issue. When I needed fine art prints, they matched what I saw on my monitor. Ive been coming to Pro Image for a while. There is no other reliable place to get same day film develop and scan. Depending on the film type of course. I strictly shoot film photography so finding a place that will process the same day or two is such a win. This gem offers prints as well and a range of other basic photography shop needs. I also buy film here when i run out. As of recent, ive seen an increase in younger staff which gets me really excited about the future of film photography. Not so excited about the general film price hike but that's totally not related. Glad to know places like this are thriving within the community. They also have another location. read more

I received a film camera for my birthday, and I had my first roll developed at Pro Image Photo. The worker helping me was extremely kind and expertly showed me how to remove the film from my new camera. He noticed that I was wearing a Columbia shirt, and told me about the student discount (I believe 10 or 15% off with a student ID), which was super awesome! For all your custom photo framing, film print and passport photos. Here's the place to go to support local. I needed a frame for a standard 18" x 24" poster, they had ready made plain black and white frames. I also had to get my son's Australian passport sized photo done. I was able to get it sent electronically, although I had to go in a second time as the Consulate didn't accept the head size. Luckily they were able to easily edit the photo that was saved and send it again at no charge. read more

Horrible place. They ruined 3 rolled I got developed there. DO NOT GO THERE! All the workers have a lot of attitude considering the sloppy work they do. I was insulted by one of the worker when I gave my phone number because of where I'm from. The guy wasn't even helping me, so I don't understand why he even cared. Then the girl at the counter attached one of my roll to a different customer profile, and it I hadn't seen the ticket, they would have given my photos to someone else. When we came to pick up the films, the girl working that day couldn't find our order, I don't know if she was high or something but we were able to find our order from the other side of the counter. I was about to the check in the box if all 3 rolls were in there, when she said they were all in the same box. I was stupid enough not to check for myself and sure thing, they only put one. When I called, the person on the phone was yelling at us with attitude, as if we were at fault. Like excuse me girl but if someone should be mad, it should be me. We went today to pick up the rest of the film, turns out they didn't process them correctly and just ruined them. If I had known, I would have processed them at home myself. read more

Inconsistent quality and diffident staff who pay no attention to what they produce. Black and white photos that have decidedly green tint, pale flesh tones that are reddish. It would be a different matter if the employees took care and would reprint. Even small print order would have turned into $100 with purchase of frames. read more

I've been bringing all my film to Pro Image now for the past couple of years and have been stopping in more over the past several weeks. Developing time is quick, generally end of day for B&W and a couple of days for color and 120 film. Staff are generally pleasant but once in a while you'll get one that isn't all too friendly. They also sell different types of film 35, 120, Polaroid, etc. as well as photo printing and framing. Its a convenient location for me and I Almost always get parking out front. read more

This review is limited to the passport picture, not their other services as they are known for their service in picture development, etc. I usually come here for my passport headshot, and the price went up! I was like what??? How much for the picture? Anyway, the picture came out awful in my opinion....too bright and they guy was trying to be funny and said, "Ten years from now, you will want to look like this". I was like oh no he didn't say that to me! I wound up going to Gateway News, which is right near the passport agency, to get it taken properly, well lit, etc. and it was cheaper too. Now that film processing labs are reopening across the city, I'm happy to be able to take my frequent film development, scanning and printing services elsewhere. The processing itself done by this lab (C41) was fine. It was just, fine. Nothing spectacular. But don't expect the employees to do anything beyond that well. Right at the beginning of placing my order, a woman behind the counter gleefully told me that Kodak had released its resurrected Ektachrome film already, and that they had it in stock. Shocked, I asked to see the Ektachrome. She handed me a box of Ektar 100. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence and I should've followed my gut right then to pull my order for developing and film scans and run far away. I didn't, and made a huge mistake. When I brought my scans and film home a few days later I had a legitimate anxiety attack as soon as I realized they had switched my order with another customers. I had received the wrong scan CD full of a stranger's vacation images, NOT the sensitive and private photography (with some fine art nude work) I had trusted PRO Image with. I accept some blame for trusting another party with work so intimate, but nonetheless it's a seriously big fuck up on their part. Pro Image asserts they did not give my film and scans to the wrong customer, that I was the only one to receive a stranger's order. They were apologetic and gave me a small discount, all of which earns them two stars instead of the lowest rating possible. My situation is probably a rare screw up from this location but still worth other photographers knowing about. read more

Great mom and pop place to get your film photos developed and scanned. The owner/manager is really great and I trust my negates with him. Quick turn around time too.. Had a small issue with some of my scans and the manager had them all redone for free and gave me a free roll of film to boot.. I just have to say, as with any place with hourly employees, make sure you double check your order and that everything has been written down on the order AND envelope here.. but some of their employees are real rockstars and really know their stuff when it comes to photos and scanning.. read more

I've liked this place so far over the last few months, but the last time I was in there on Saturday was weird. The person helping me at the counter couldn't be bother to offer more than grunting responses. I didn't leave feeling good. But then they called me today to tell me that the roll I dropped off was "blank" and that they had issued a credit to my account with me even having to ask. I thought it was weird. I know the film was advancing on that roll, and I double checked my camera. Everything was working fine. I think they were afraid to tell me they'd made a mistake. Just really frustrating to think that I painstakingly shot an entire roll of film over the course of a month to two months only for it to come out "blank" under questionable circumstances. I haven't seen the negatives myself yet, but I don't want to spend money here again if the experience is sh*t and they screw up the work I put in. read more

I need new Passport photos. They charged me over $20 but the photos were very unflattering. It looks like she used a wide angle lens that makes my face appear unnaturally very round. Also, the colors were washed out. I have to wonder if the people at the counter are actually photographers? Since passports last 10 years, I am going somewhere else to get them redone. I developed a few films there and was always left a bit meh by the experience and how pricey they were. But last time kind of took the cake - I wanted to only scan some films I developed myself. I dropped them and the girl was kinda super vague about pricing but really wanted them done and just dropped anyways. I then saw they charged me $50 for it! Great place for your everyday photo printing needs! I found the staff to be courteous despite a busy store, the prices were excellent, and the service fast. I got three large 12 in x 18 in photo prints to frame and put in the living room. The gentleman manning the store took some extra time to help me make sure the file resolution was sufficient for the enlargements, and they turned out great. I'm looking at them now. They look gorgeous. If you're a crazy photography junkie with the need to print special things special sizes with special borders, maybe this place is not for you. But I would highly recommend Pro Image Photo to all you regular folks who just want some nice photos to put up around the house! read more

Do NOT come here for film development/scans. Not only was my film not ready on the day they told me it would be (which was already 4 days after dropping it off), but my scans were just really awful. I developed a roll of ISO 50 slide film and somehow it came out so grainy you'd think I was shooting at ISO 3600. Besides that, every single scan is so contrasted that it's totally useless. A roll of black and white tri-x I dropped off here was similarly blown out to $hit. Super disappointing. read more

The posters were for a kids non-for-profit and he immediately tried to assess my needs not just make a buck. This place is terrible. I thought I would save some money by trying these guys out to develop and scan my film, but their name is a total joke - they are not pros by any means. I brought in a black & white 400-TriX roll and a color 400 Portra to be developed. They said it would be done in 3 days. Went back 4 days later to pick it up and the man at the counter could not find my film. Great! He shuffled around in the back room for 10 minutes and came back to tell me that the machine for developing was broken, but they managed to develop my film (whatever that means...). He said they did not get a chance to scan the film yet. He said they would be ready in another day. Annoyed, I come back a day later and everything is ready to go (again, after some shuffling in the back to find my order for 10 minutes). I get home and look at the scans. They are absolutely TERRIBLE! The black and white scans are so blocked up and contrasty. The highlights are totally blown out and blacks have no detail. These look worse than a base scan coming out of my $100 Canon scanner with no adjustments. What a waste of time and money. It blows my mind that this place is even in business...yet has 2 locations! Super disorganized, terrible quality scans, bad customer service...guys, get it together! All in all, spend the little extra money and go to a real shop for anything remotely serious for film development. Try Luster Photo in East Village or LTI Lightslide. read more

I had some last minute prints to make on a Thursday that I needed to pick up on Saturday. I'm a professional photographer; usually I use millers (or adoramapix when i'm in a bind). However Adorama isn't open Saturdays and Millers wanted to charge 100% increase for 2 day turnover, I needed another option. I was so lucky to find the pro image website. They're prices online were great, equal to or cheaper than most labs (and also to note with 2 day turnover there were no rush charges or fees). Also to note with the quality of prints from the other labs I haven't been completely impressed by the end result. But pro image is top notch. On seeing the results of the prints, I was so pleased. Beautiful range of tones, they printed my images perfectly @ large scale over 20 inches, one image was black & white and the range of tones was perfect. It is rare these days to receive a perfect end product without any glitches. I'm very pleased to have found this lab, I will use their services again for sure. read more

My go to spot for printing up photos. The service is always helpful and quick, and they do a really good job with their images, much better than what you get at CVS or Duane Reade. Turnaround time is very fast, even for unusual print sizes or big orders. Highly recommended. read more

Frustrating place, good prints but overpriced and not the best service

Stopped by Pro Image because it is one of the last places in NYC that still develops film. (Yes, I had an cheap underwater camera that still used 35mm and needed to be processed!) PIP was fit for the job. The staff seemed to be nice and gave me a choice of a complementary CD or a second set of prints. (Que cute). They also processed the job in about two days - which made me really miss the old 1-hour photo places of the 90s. The cost was a little bit higher than I expected but it was either this or I would send my roll out to a rando place by mail. read more

Bad customer service. Impolite and a haughty attitude. Better to use the internet for professional printing. Their frames are expensive. Michaels on 99 and Columbus has a better selection and half the price. The new Bed Bath store on 90th and Broadway also has a good selection and much cheaper. read more

Recently I had photos taken here for the second time, by Sylvain: Both photo sessions were for the purpose of using them on dating websites. The first time was for Head Shots, and the second time was for Full-Body shots. The results, when it came to positive responses from guys on the dating websites, have been great in both instances. Sylvain takes an extraordinary amount of care to have one look one's best, at one's most attractive-he takes a variety of shots, from different angles. I had about 65 shots to choose from after the first session, and for the full body shots there were over 100 shots for me to choose from . I can't praise Sylvain enough for his skills as a photographer, as well for his kind and considerate attitude -not to mention his French charm! I highly recommend his services here. read more
