They tried several times to dissuade my dad from fixing a 2001 Odyssey van because it wasn't worth the value of the car from two decades of depreciation with issues, ranging from air conditioning to a stolen catalytic converter when parked on the street in New York City. However, my dad insisted on repairing it because it was useful for transporting larger items, ranging from equipment to furniture. It's truly hard to find mechanics and a body shop you trust to bring your car and those of your loved ones. It helps that their crew (e.g., Ricky) can speak Chinese slowly and clearly to relate to my dad with his hearing impairments. Nobody's perfect in this imperfect world, so sometimes you need to take a leap of faith and find someone willing to work with you and relay all the info that you need to decide how to move forward or not with fixing your car. For me, it's better to hear the good, bad, and ugly truth than to not know the inside scoop for making a more informed decision, especially the tough ones.
