    Affordable Automotive Services

This business, it calls itself "Affordable Auto Service" but it's anything but that!!! Here's why…read moreI can say this: My vehicle's "Service Engine Soon" lamp came on the dash recently so I grab my OBD and plug it into its port to see what's going on. It's showing a DTC of P0128. Click on the additional info button on the ODB and it states there are 4 possibilities as to what's happening. The most obvious: a thermostat that's stuck open. Purchase a replacement thermostat and am set to replace it when I re-injure a past foot injury. Back having to wear a walking cast so I'm now slightly lopsided and in no condition to perform the repair myself. So it's now a trip to a shop to have the work performed. Drop my vehicle off to this shop at 7:30 AM and explain my ODB shows a DTC of P0128 and leave them the thermostat I had purchased myself. Inform the employee that the coolant was last replaced in Oct of 2020 so this might as well be replaced also. Should have asked for a quote upfront for I would have saved myself the shock of seeing how much I got charged several hours later. Returned at 1:30 pm but I see my vehicle with its hood up so they're still doing something with it. I return an hour later and it's parked so the work performed, it's completed. Or so I thought. So what did I get charged to have the thermostat replaced and the coolant? Would you believe: $840 dollars!!! That's right. Yeah, I can't believe this sum either. Worse yet, when I drove away I couldn't believe what I was looking at on my dash. The "Service Engine Soon" lamp was still on and I had a NEW idiot light flashing at me. I pull into a parking lot to see why the "Low Coolant" lamp is on and it's obvious. There's absolutely NO coolant in the coolant reservoir!!! What the hell??? My auto's Low Coolant sensor sits in the bottom right-hand side as you face standing in front of it. Every time I turn my vehicle over, this lamp comes on. Three days later I return and request they add a couple of quarts of coolant so this lamp won't come back on. Surprised I wasn't charged for this. But lo and behold, guess what's no longer lit on my dashboard? Right, the Low Coolant lamp. I inquire as to why I'm charged $550 dollars just to replace the thermostat and another $200 dollars to replace the coolant? Get told, "there were issues" and the mechanic took longer. I ask, "and what were these issues?" Unsurprisingly, I never received an answer to my question and "these issues" they're NOT written down anywhere on my Repair Order! Gee.... I wonder why????. The paperwork shows nothing but dollar amounts but as far as how much time was spent performing the work, nope, not a thing. Zilch, nada. So I ask, "how much time was involved and get told, approx 3.7 hrs. Hard to believe it takes a WHOLE hour to remove coolant and then add almost 8 quarts. REALLY??? I have since been informed that replacing my vehicle's thermostat, it should only take, at the most, 2 hrs. As for the coolant, this should have been included with the work performed given it was the THERMOSTAT that was replaced, for crying out loud! I did receive a "new customer" discount but this was not mentioned when I dropped my automobile off and someone probably thought, "this guy's lookin' at a $1,000 dollar repair bill and all we did was replace the coolant and thermostat.... hmm, let's give him a supposed "discount." I now realize, I should have simply asked for a quote on what this business would charge me. As the saying goes: "Buyer Beware" As to whomever owns this business, a word of advice: just because a customer turns up with their OWN part because they already know what needs to be done because they also own an OBD, this doesn't give you the right to overcharge them. Also, a customer having out-of-state license plates isn't a signal to justify Ripping them OFF because you think, "gee, what are the chances they return to complain?" Well, there is such a thing as the state of Washington's Consumer Protection Division so in fact, I do have recourse to file a complaint with them, in case you weren't aware. One more thing: how about relocating your hourly labor rate sign so it's more prominently displayed where customers can more easily see it. Having it on the wall opposite the front door, since most customers will come through this door, if they don't close it, then the information is HIDDEN from VIEW. I hope it pleases you to know, you scammed a former Armed Forces Service member. As such.... PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK!

If…read morebeing in one place for that long in a small town doesn't give you confidence, let me try. The first time at Mike's (over 20 years ago)I had three tranny's go out in a month, I paid for one! The second visit was three years ago. Others had told me a new transmission, period. Mike...a tranny radiator thingy, he saved me over a thousand dollars! Last month, VALLEY AUTO SALES, (SEE YELP REVIEW) sold me a van full of problems. MIKES TRANSMISSION SERVICE not only diagnosed the problem but concluded the dealer purposely tried to conceal problems. And, went way and above the normal customer service to fix all the problems VAS created. He also asked VAS to call him, they refused. He is also willing to help me in court!!! BTW-after 3 years he still remembered me as a customer, and remembered what I drove! His wife, Gayle, says not all his memory bnks are working however. Mike and his wife run a very professional, honest business, have no fear, they are fair!

When we finally gave up on them and asked for our truck back they had sent the transmission to a "friend" so we could take the truck but would have no transmission. We finally got our truck back only to have it start not working properly and throwing codes in less than a year. We Brought the truck back for it's warranty. Months passed with no communication. After 4 months our lawyer sent a letter demanding action. The business's response was "they didn't have an appointment "Today after over 5 months we are picking up our truck, which now has a dead battery, and they did not complete the work. We are "eating" the cost of this repair as we no longer trust them to complete the work correctly. They are not trustworthy and you will wait forever to get your vehicle while they lie to you along the way.
