I highly recommend Mike Mann Excavation…read more I had a very large remodel project in Bernal Heights in SF and I had to deal with many subcontractors as I was acting as the contractor. This was about a 1,000 foot addition. We removed about 350 yards of soil, which is a lot! About 12' down and 20x25 feet square. Mike and his crew were on the job for days (weeks really). The guys who operate the machinery are extremely nice guys (one guy even dealt with some folks who came over from my craigslist ad to pick up pavers I was getting rid of while I was at work). They meneuver that machinery like they're doing ballet. Mike is easy to work with and makes every effort to accommodate your schedule and works with you all the way and not against you as I have experienced with other contractors who are as busy as he is. He also had one of the lowest bids of the several bids I received. I had several changes along the way and other excavators/contractors may have used those opportunities to jack up the price while Mike's prices were totally reasonable. I don't think anyone would have done it for less. Use Mike Mann for any digging project great or small and you won't be disappointed.

When we put it altogether, It took hours and upon hours to load the truck and trailer. Carmine's men worked like dogs. Nothing was stolen, and the few things that were broken were due to faulty packing on our part, not to them. Oh wait, there was one casualty. When one bracket on my desk was bent, Carmine even offered to lower the cost to pay for welding. I'm glad to say it was easily fixed, and my desk is now reassembled. Action Movers' original estimate and contracted price was half that of the national company we had contacted. In the end, we gladly paid Carmine a small amount additional (over the original estimate) because no one expected the work to be as difficult as it was. My God, when the elevator went out in the apartment building where we were staying, Carmine and his men even carried things down six flights of stairs. I honor his integrity, and can recommend him highly as a mover.

None of the others were damaged, but so it goes. I did a search and found Handyman Flores. I called him, but the voicemail on his phone is not set up, so I was unable to leave a message. I used the Yelp communication tool to leave him a message and that made the process far more complicated than it needed to be, because Yelp sent the message to several other window-related companies. It was very aggravating and I won't use that again, because I'm having to respond to all sorts of random companies and people Yelp contacted on my "behalf". Only one of the 4 or 5 companies was local. The closest otherwise was San Rafael. The others were in Pittsburg and San Ramon. Talk about a blunt instrument, unhelpful and, in my case, counterproductive. Most helpful of those was Paula, of East County Glass & Window. If I lived closer, I would certainly use them. Her response was detailed and extremely useful. I finally did reach Handyman Flores, who said by text that he could replace the screen for $120. That seemed OK. I was quoted a range of prices and that was in the middle. He and a helper came over between 5:00 and 6:00 this evening. They replaced the screen and it looks great, as good as new. When I was writing the check I confirmed the amount and he said that it would be $150 because of the materials he had purchased. That was a surprise, but I paid it. He does a wide range of services, so he is indeed a handyman. It would be handier for his customers if his voice mailbox were set up.
