I really wanted this to be good. I mean it wasn't terrible, the food was edible and the service was ok, but it was just a bit 'meh'.
Popadoms, a starter and main each, couple of side dishes with one rice and one naan between us, washed down with 2 small cokes came to just shy of £50... It certainly wasn't a £50 curry!
The prawn purée was nice and creamy, but the chef's speciality dishes (a narwabi and a chicken handi) were underwhelming. When I saw a Handi on the menu, I reminisced fondly of times gone by at Tariq's in Leeds where their handi was full of fresh tomatoes, chillis and flavour. Unfortunately, this dish was not that.
The saag paneer side dish tasted burnt and the daal had a strange taste too.
I know flavours are subjective, and this could very well be some people's favourite curry house. But it wasn't mine.
They sell coke by the glass bottle, which obviously tastes the best, but they charge a premium for it, making a big glass of coke £4! read more
