The shop sells cheese (and they let you have samples), wine, and imported foods, but it also a full deli that serves sandwiches, salads, prepared food, and more. My mom is vegan but was able to make a very good vegan sandwich (hummus and lots of veggies), while I really really really really loved their French Picnic sandwich (French ham, brie, apples, and honey mustard on baguette). It was the best brie (and soooo much brie) that I've ever had and just a perfect sandwich. There was a little wait to order - it's a popular spot - but once our sandwiches were in a brown paper sack in our hands, we drove over to Walden Pond and enjoyed them there. What could be a more perfect lunch on a first visit to Concord than a great sandwich from the Concord Cheese Shop enjoyed looking out at Walden Pond?! I see that a couple other reviewers had the same experience as well so it doesn't seem to be a one-off moment. We came here for a Christmas tree and were pleasantly surprised by the selection (December 7th) of really good quality trees and lower prices compared to other places we've bought from in the past (ranging from $60-$80ish). Of note they take cash or check only, they do have an ATM, and the prices listed are a few dollars short of the actual price you'll pay. The teenagers working at the tree stand were very pleasant and got a fresh cut on the tree and strapped it to our car securely and efficiently. The turn for the worse came when we went to pay. The women was talking to us like we were children which was very odd and belittling (hard to portray tone but for example when I handed her the cash she went '$70, oh good job!') then when handing me back change she goes 'and your change to the food pantry?' and drops my change in a donation bucket before even finishing the question...I literally was reaching my hand out to receive the change and she just decided not to give it to me or let me answer the question. I was honestly pissed off about that. It's my money to choose what to do with and socially, how rude is it to put people in a position to have to fish their change out of a donation bin if they hadn't wanted to donate it? Overall, the woman at the checkout really tainted this place for me by straight up not giving me my change back and I don't plan to return.

You can find things here that you can't find anywhere else. The best ice cream in the world is Mitchell's ice cream in Santa Barbara, CA. I have never seen this for sale outside of Southern CA ... much less in Massachusetts. I don't even mind paying $10/pint. Do yourself a favor and try it. (Just leave some for me!) The Chip Shop Curry sauce in the Irish/British section is also a fantastic item. You'll never think of Ketchup with french fries again once trying this cardboard tube of dehydrated crystals. And their selection of beers and wines at about 20% markup are pricey, but good. Bananas Foster Milkshake IPA, Blueberry Muffin Porter and obscure French and Italian wines? I'm in. I am not necessarily going to complain about the absolutely insane prices. This sure isn't Market Basket. Shit, even Wholefoods rolls their eyes behind this store's back when they see a half a tuna fish sandwich for $14 or a $6 single wrapped non-descript oatmeal cookie. You know what you are getting into when you pass through town and see the perfectly landscaped 1700's giant houses with their 'activist' signs in the front yard, that look like they came out of a Pottery Barn catalog. You know ... Stop Global Warming ... yet consume ice cream that traveled 4,000 miles across the country in a refrigerated truck. What I don't love is the pre-made foods ... from the sandwiches to the baked goods to the entrees aren't that good. How can one go wrong with a $12 'authentic' Jamaican jerk pasty? When it is bland, tasteless and contains two small scraps of meat, that's how. In a moment of weakness, I splurged on a $8 piece of pie that tasted of little more than shortening and cardboard. Overall, it's clean ... it's immaculate ... and it's well curated for the well off. It's 20-something year old workers, who clearly would rather be at Dartmouth gathered around an ice luge made with Fiji Water, will one day be able afford the trappings of $40/lb. Stilton cheese and $12 per ounce pimento cheese spread. But in the meantime, they aren't that helpful or interested in customers. Who can blame them? Hedge funds and derivatives are so much more interesting than Naples tomato sauce and organic laundry detergent. Would I come back? Yes ... for the 5 or 6 really cool things I can't find anywhere else and cannot live without. A raging coke habit would be less expensive than doing one's regular grocery shopping here. But ... you never know what oddiments you'll find. Just keep in mind that a $20/lb. cold cut really is just a cold cut here and many of the crazy expensive deli, bakery or cheese items here aren't that amazing despite 70% of the world needing to take out a mortgage to buy a roast beef and asagio cheese sandwich on sourdough here.

The oils and vinegars are delicious and very versatile to use. They are high quality and reasonably priced (for really nice olive oil). Yes, this will cost you more than buying your EVOO at the grocery store, but it is worth it! Tips for people who said they had a bad experience or it was awkward: this is not a store you can walk into and just plunge right into it. Ask the employees how you should sample things.
