I came to have a mani/pedi and I couldn't even understand what they were saying they were talking to each other and I said can you please speak English! She then told me that I had to pay with cash and I saw the credit card machine I told her I don't carry cash and she wanted me to go to the bank I said no and asked her why she didn't take credit cards and she said it's easier for her to take cash. 2 days later my nails were chipped. Susan and the staff always do an amazing job! They are all very attentive and responsive to the requests I had. My nails were damaged at another salon and were very brittle -- Susan reassured on how they could help protect my nails and choose a color for the fall. I came here for the first time a couple weeks ago for a full set. As soon as I went to sit down there was a lot of loud chatter followed by laughter and I distinctly felt it was about me. Sure enough, it was pretty quiet the rest of my service. The nails came out looking really flat and not quite the best shaping. But what really bothered me is when I tried to pay with my card and my nail tech asked for cash or Venmo. I didn't have cash so I opened my Venmo and randomly had trouble logging in (I hardly use it). I got nervous because it seemed weird to pressure me for a certain payment method over another. Finally, after a few minutes of me apologizing and sitting in awkward silence, the tech said card is ok. Just overall a weird experience for a standard nail service. Called day of and they were able to squeeze me in for a quick dip manicure with design! Very nice staff and willing to take on challenges! They kept saying it might not look the same on the picture because everyone has a different skin tone, but I reassured her that it was fine continuously. It turned out way better than I expected! Everything was amazing, but they were a bit rough when shaping and removing cuticles. But not bad where some places make you bleed, not a deterring factor! She used nail art stickers instead of using gel on top of dip, and it still looks great! The sticker stayed on for a week and a half, but that's cause I use my hands on a daily basis for dishes, but if not I think it would've stayed stuck longer, dip is still looking great though! read more

He knew what I needed today! Updated October 4, 2019 Came to this beautiful nail salon once again and there are new owners, Susan and Dany who were just amazing! They have painted and updated some of the furniture. They are very accommodating and make you feel very welcome. They offer complimentary water bottles while they work on your nails. The salon was nice and clean as well as inviting :) Dany did my nails. He was easy to talk to and did a fantastic job on my gel manicure. Jenny did my friends nails and pedicure. I started getting my nails done at Princess Nails when I moved to Somerville in 2008. Even when I moved to Tewksbury for 2 years I'd make the drive back to Medford to get my manis and pedis. I typically get gel manicures and pedicures and boy do they last! They've always done a beautiful job. You also get a few really nice perks that most nail salons charge extra for like hot stones and callus removing gel with your pedicure, free gel polish removal and hot towels. But one of the first thing that really struck me about Princess Nails was their customer service. They really make an effort to learn their customers names and they remember things you chat about and will bring it up at your next visit. It may not seem like much, but it makes me feel good to be greeted by name. Yvonne and Philip are so sweet and friendly and really make the effort to make people feel welcomed. One word: SLOPPY. I'm baffled by the good reviews, this place is a dump. It's dirty inside, and no surprise, that should have been my first clue that this salon simply does NOT have an eye for detail. The owner, Yvonne I believe was her name, did my nails, and honestly they looked better when I came in than when I came out. The acrylic is lumpy and the polish is uneven, half of it is on my cuticles. Sadly I chose red gel polish, so the mistakes are even more apparent. When I asked for her to fix each detail I noticed looked off along the way, she tried to oblige, but she literally couldn't see what I was talking about. Sorry, but it's never a good sign when your nail technician wears reading glasses and moves your hand around to try and focus...She also cut me to the point where I'm bleeding in several places. I can't really distinguish what is blood or nail polish at this point. Furthermore, I had called the day prior to make an appointment the next morning. Yvonne insisted that they were busy the next day but she could fit me in if I came at 9:45 before they opened at 10:00. She double checked that I would definitely make that time, and I promised I would. As it turned out, no one showed up to even open the shop until 9:55, on a freezing cold January day when it is FIVE DEGREES outside. When I got in, we got down to business and I had to keep my coat and scarf on the whole time because the heat wasn't on! At the end, I told her I can't in good conscience pay the full price for this experience. She proceeded to grab my hand, pull me over to another customer in the middle of a manicure, and put that customer on the spot by asking what that customer thought of her work. I told her it's not fair to put other customers in this position, and that I also do not think it's fair to charge me full price, and cited all the reasons about why this has been a terrible experience. She insisted I owed her $38, so I paid her with American Express, who I know will get my money back and is intolerant of bad business experiences like these. They do regular as well as gel manicures and pedicures. I always get a gel manicure and my daughter has acrylic nails. Both my daughter and I bring in pictures of nail designs and Danny always steps up to the plate and replicates them for us. The man is a genius.
