We had originally booked rooms at another hotel several months before our trip to Italy but found out about Princeps Boutique Hotel in Rome on TripAdvisor only a few months away from the start of our trip. Princeps is rated very high on TripAdvisor with only 2 negative and very random reviews. Most of the other reviews rated it 5 stars with the second largest amount rating it at 4 stars. We decided to give it a try and booked our stay.
We stayed for 6 nights during the last full week of July. There are so many good things about this place, but one of the better parts is the employees that work here. Everyone was very helpful and super polite. We had the pleasure of meeting Rustam when we arrived. Rustam was extremely polite and helpful in pointing out the different sites to see in the area. Chiara also was very helpful on multiple occasions with questions we had and helping us print out tickets that we had purchased for the various sites in Rome. The lady that worked the breakfasts in the morning was outstanding too. The employees here are the model of what all hotels should strive to be.
We were able to check in early and our room was ready when we arrived around 10:30 am after our lengthy flight. That was great. The room was very nice, well-appointed and clean. We stayed in room #417 and found it to be on the larger side for European hotels for sure. The 3 of us had plenty of space. My only complaint about the room was the lack of a full sized table and chair. The chair issue was remedied by borrowing one out of the dining area. We were able to work (computer time) on the smaller circular tables in the room but would have liked a larger and more work friendly surface.
Hotel location is fantastic as it is in close proximity to many of the top sites in Rome. Also, a complimentary hot breakfast is served daily between the hours of 7:15 -10:15 am. The refrigerator was topped off with cold water and juices and was free for the first round. The air conditioning worked perfectly. Our room had large window that opened which was very nice.
A few other observations that I will comment on that were not a big deal but things worth pointing out are the fact that there is only one small elevator that only holds 3 people to get to the 4th floor. It was 2 trips for our party of 3 (with bags) to get us and the luggage up to the hotel. There is a train station close by and at certain times of the morning we could hear and feel a very distinct rumble emanating from the underground. Also, there is construction that is taking place on the building in the back that shares the same entrance as the building that the Princeps Boutique Hotel is located in. During the week, construction started at 7:00 am and was noticeable in our room. Being early risers, this was not a huge deal for us as we were off to the sites on most days.
We loved the location with many very good restaurants in close proximity. There were also stores for products that we needed such as water, toothpaste and snacks that were close by. There is a taxi stand just up the street as well which was very convenient. Santa Maria Maggiore is just across the street too and is a must-see cathedral during a visit to Rome.
We liked Princeps and will stay there again when we go back. We highly recommend this place. read more
