POWER FLIPPERS Arcade games are all fine and good, but pinball is where the real action's at. Located in the center of the Bolingbrook Promenade, Prince Arcades is an old school video gaming parlor with more than 50 games crammed inside. They're open until 11pm Thurs-Sat, closed Monday thru Wednesday. They charge $15pp for all-you-can-play access, which includes in/out privileges throughout the day. No handstamp or entry wristband, just one employee keeping tabs on things. The classics are well represented (Galaga, Burgertime, TRON) as are the always-engaging light gun shooters (House of the Dead, Big Buck Hunter), cooperative button-mashers (X-Men, Simpsons, Gauntlet Dark Legacy), and the inimitable Guitar Hero Arcade Edition, which seems to be perpetually out of calibration. They need a Dance Dance Revolution. As of 6/18/21, they had 10 pinball tables spanning several decades, from the early 1980's (Comet, Cyclone, F-14 Tomcat) to the 90's/00's (Al's Garage Band, Black Rose, Monster Bash, Austin Powers) and all the way up through the 2010's-present (Stranger Things, Guardians of the Galaxy, Total Nuclear Annihilation). They were all in decent shape and played great. I experienced an issue with a ball jam and alerted the staff, who promptly sent a technician from the back to fix the problem. Most places would just slap an "out of order" sign on the game and deal with it off-hours, but they got to it right away and I appreciated that. I also liked that they posted some pinball "etiquette" as a friendly reminder (e.g. don't bang on the glass). On machines set to freeplay--which they are here--you'll end up with people pressing the start button a ton, which sets up a 4P game, only to abandon it moments later. I saw this happen a lot on pinball and the staff had to perform a hard reset each time, which isn't great for electronics. You won't ever see that problem with tokens or pay-as-you-go, but c'est la vie. * TL;DR * Whether you're 8 or 88, everyone loves an arcade. Galloping Ghost (Brookfield) & Enterrium (f/k/a Level 257 in Schaumburg) are good spots for pinball in the Chicago suburbs, though that's about it. Prince Arcades is all we've got here in Bolingbrook, and I think they fit the niche very well. $15 is reasonable for admission, especially if you stretch that out over 3-5 hours (I recommend grabbing a pint at nearby Rock Bottom, then coming back). I'll have a couple pinball tables of my own someday soon, but until that happens I'm glad to give this local arcade my business. read more

My family has been going to this arcade between Xmas and net years for three years now. The owner is always welcoming and it's great to see the cap soon and the growth of the small business. My only suggestion is that the arcade continue to stay strong and do what it takes to continue prospering as this is a tradition the whole family enjoys. Oh the flight simulator. I love arcade games but I'm not good at them. Located in the promenade Bolingbrook mall. The only other free play (no entry, games completely free) arcades I'm familiar with are in the city so this was awesome to find. $15 all you can play until close which includes a beverage (non-alcoholic). This place is KID FRIENDLY because it isn't a bar there's no alcohol. It's right next door to Danny's pizza and you can bring food I was told. We never even played a game. I think the concept is cool. $20 free play till close, but they need to get a new hostess. She was very unfriendly, borderline rude. It was 6pm, and daylight was out. No one was standing at the door. My son (age 6) and I walked in. I proceeded to look around and check how can I pay to play. A lady walked out and told us the rules, "games are free play, no quarters required, $20/ person." While that's high, I was considering it. Mind u we are standing next to the machines my son proceeds to touch one of the games. Specifically, the Joyce stick. That's when she said, "he can't touch that, they are free play" as if a 6 year old who's not listening to anyone even understands that. He probably didn't immediately know how to actually start the game. So I left, she made my mind up for me. I will not patronize a place that treats customers like crap. Being unkind and assuming we're there to free load is bad business. It was definitely a way for her to handle that better. read more

Took my toddler (he is 3) out for dinner and he wanted to play a shooting game like the one they have at enchanted castle. I remembered this place opened up so figured I would check it out. I arrived around 8:30. A gentleman came to the door and I asked how much it was, he said $15. I specifically asked is my son too young to play, he said no. Honestly that price isnt bad considering you can play all games as much as you want. We were in and out within 15 minutes!! HOWEVER my issue was being charged $30 for me and my 3 year old. Now common sense tells you, there is no way in hell this little toddler can play any of the games without assistance he cant reach them without assistance nor would I ever leave them to play alone. So why charge for a toddler? With that being said, NO this is NOT a place for kids under 7, and geared more for an older kid and adults. The place is a bit tight and I can see it getting very uncomfortably crowded as there isnt much space between the games and standing area. Overall is it amazing? Good times here! Lots of games, and unlike many places like this they were all working! Spent almost 4 hours here on Fathers Day because after the initial fee you can come back. So we broke for dinner and came back! Took me right back to my childhood. Games I loved and got to share with my daughter. Rampage was a big hit. They offer free non-alcoholic beverages which is a plus. My only critique would be to offer a lower rate for kids. My daughter definitely played but was intimidated by a lot of the games being 7 years old. 15 bucks for 10 and up and half price for kids under would make me come back more often. read more

My daughter has been asking for me to take her to the arcade since we went last year and when I found out there was one at the Bolingbrook promenade I was super excited! The place looks like sandy other store front from the outside but the inside is filled with nostalgic magic! For $15 you can play as many games, as many times, as you'd like all day long. You can come and go as many times as you'd like as well. There's a little fridge in the corner with a nice assortment of sodas, coffee, hot chocolate, and water that is free for customers. Many of my favorite classics where there. Frogger, tapper, Q*bert, Crazy Taxi, Ninja Turtles, Rampage.... I could go on and on! There is even a good selection on pinball machines. Without realizing it, we spent almost 5 hours there! With the convenient location and the ability to leave, eat a nice dinner at one of the restaurants within walking distance, and come back, we will be here more often! read more

I thought the games would be in better condition since they build arcade cabinets, but some are some aren't. At least the volume on games isn't too overbearing. Often when you go to Galloping Ghost Arcade some games sound completely drowns out other games, here at Prince Arcades it isn't that bad. The highlight currently is a "Stranger Things" pinball machine by Stern but it's popular so hard to get on for sure. There are some gems you might find here so happy hunting. read more

Absolute perfection with curation and maintenance in this arcade. Very friendly atmosphere where you can come and go as you please for the day. I've only been here three times because I live in Chicago and it's a bit of a trek, but worth it every time! The owner is very knowledgeable and obviously has a love for games.
