Kernville was wall-to-wall people everyone enjoying the Mountains, sunshine, Kern, river, and America's 250th birthday. James store was busy as might be expected on the big holiday weekend. I headed to the meat department too many choices. I decided on 2 habanero and 2 black pepper chicken kebabs to barbecue and a 6 pack of carnation drumsticks for dessert. The store looked great decorated and fully stocked they were ready for 4 July holiday. Shelly my cashier was super, all check stands were open very little waiting. Our barbecued kebabs Saturday night were delicious seasoned perfect and the marinade just right. The drumsticks hit the spot as well. Happy birthday America

TRI TIP!!! We stayed across the street at the Sequoia Lodge, and in the morning you can see them start the smoker and that sweet smell... Their little restaurant is phenomenal. The various hot sauces are a great touch, but the service and smiles that come with it are the cherry on top. Anything with tri-tip, but especially the breakfast burrito and their French toast (no tri tip, lol) are to die for.

We got in line and checked the case to see what delicious pastries we could get. Unfortunately the last few times I've had the chance to stop by have been a few hours before closing, so they tend to be out of a lot of pastries and the breads that I wanted. I ended up getting their Sun Dried Tomato Bread and Cherry Mini Cheesecake. The Sun Dried Tomato Bread was ok, but not something I'd get again. The Cherry Mini Cheesecake is delicious and very filling. Hopefully they won't be out of my favorite pastries on my next visit!

Gals said 25 minutes so we drove into Kernville checked out the mighty Kern River before we headed back to Charlie's They were slicing our pie as I entered, perfect timing. The 8 mile drive up Hwy 155 to our cabin was tough because Charlie's pizza smelled so good. It didn't disappoint lots of cheese,veggies, sausage, hamburger, pepperoni, it was outstanding and had enough for another delicious meal. Check out Charlie's kitchen you won't be disappointed

As the years went on I was a little wary of giving them that recommendation since it's been so long since I've been there...but good to know it's still just as amazing 8 years later. We opted to sit outside so that we could see the river (even though it was 90+ degrees...but in the shade it was a cool 85 degrees) Gourmet Green 5/5 turkey, creamy almond cilantro jalapeno spread (not spicy to me) kind of reminded me of the green goddess sauce, red onion, roasted red pepper, havarti and spinach. Everything just worked beautifully and it basically felt like eating a salad. Blue Cheese Potato Salad 4/5 I wanted this to be more blue cheesy, but it was still pretty tasty. Though when my bf tasted this, he said it was really blue cheesey so maybe I just want it to be way more intense tasting. So glad that this place is still here and that they still are super delicious :)
