Well in all the turmoil of the financial markets and the confusion surrounding mortgage and refi…read morerules I decided it would be a great idea to refi my house in this mess. I would have been up poo creek without a paddle if it weren't for the team at Family Mortgage of Georgia. www.familyga.com These guys were extremely helpful through the entire month long process. I wasn't even sure I would be able to refi to a 15 year due to the state of the housing market and falling home values but they gave me tons of counseling (for free) back in 2008 and they advised me not to even spend the $400.00 on an appraisal since it wouldn't come back in my favor. Well, a year later I emailed them once again and we ran the numbers together. They said it would be close, but it was worth going to the next step...spending money on an appraisal. Once the appraisal came back it was only a matter of paperwork and patience. The level of communication and professionalism from the team at FMOG was amazing and I will use them again for future refi's or home purchases.

Nevertheless, they immediately made me feel like I was not only taken care of but also cared for. I was also finishing up planning my wedding and had the closing date set for the day before my wedding. Whenever I told people this they were shocked and said that I must be so stressed and frantic, but it was quite the opposite. The Family Mortgage Team was beyond helpful and patient with me. From start to finish, they were incredibly professional both in their emails and their phone calls. Whenever they needed some info from me for my file or for the (dreaded) underwriting process, they always sent a very organized, easy to understand email explaining exactly what they needed. If I ever had a question about the material (which was rare because they always explained everything so well), they were very quick to reply- if not within the same hour, definitely within the day. I honestly can't say enough good things about this company and my experience with everyone involved. Their patience, understanding, and positive attitude made my first house buying experience a very smooth and easy one- something you don't hear about a house buying process very often!

But wait, there's more: The team had a cherry on top: They referred me to a superb Realtor named Catherine, who gave me a grand tour of Georgia homes. What should have been a straightforward meeting with a mortgage specialist turned into a frustrating ordeal that wasted my entire afternoon. Upon arrival, I checked in with the gentleman at the door, who seemed completely out of his depth--fumbling through the process and providing zero updates. I sat there patiently for over an hour, watching other customers come and go ahead of me without any explanation. It wasn't until I finally spoke up and demanded to know what was happening that the branch manager, Chelsea Burnett, stepped in and introduced me to the only mortgage consultant available, Ms. Janice (License #2695806). By that point, my time had been utterly disrespected. This isn't just poor service; it's a total breakdown in basic operations. A team of trained circus monkeys could have managed the queue better. As a long-time member, I'm appalled and have decided to take my business elsewhere--to USAA, where I expect actual professionalism. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this NFCU branch.
