Dave's Master Floor Care - Fully sanded, repaired natural stain finish

    Dave's Master Floor Care

I needed my engineered hardwood floors refinished, and the first company I contacted barely looked…read moreat them before telling me they were too far gone and needed to be replaced. Thankfully, I got a second opinion from Dave's Master Floor Care. Dave carefully inspected the entire floor and explained that refinishing was possible -- and he delivered outstanding results with good value. Dave is thorough and an excellent communicator. He explained the types of wear on my floors and outlined his refinishing strategy step by step. With little room for error on this type of flooring, I appreciated his clear approach -- there's no "undo" button with refinishing! Dave also has tools I've never seen before -- it felt like he had a gadget for every challenge that came up. Plus, he's been doing this for years, so he knows how different stains and woods react. I even learned a bit along the way. And the best part? Dave does the work himself. Sometimes he brings an assistant to help with simple stuff, but you're really hiring him -- not a random crew. After seeing what he did with the floors, I also had him fix some big cracks in my garage and driveway too. Same story: great work, no fuss. If you want someone knowledgeable, equipped, and detail-oriented, I highly recommend Dave's Master Floor Care.

I found Dave through Yelp and, as usual, I am always a little suspicious of contractors I find…read morethrough an app but Dave really put my mind at ease once I spoke to him and heard how knowledgeable he was about flooring. He provided a consultation for my indoor floors, but then I had him also look at my garage floor and he said he was able to do the work I was looking for, which is what I will be reviewing here today. I had a few cracks in my garage floor and was looking to Epoxy it to protect it for the winter. Dave explained to me his process and how it differs from the competition which helps keep his cost low. The best part about Dave was that he stuck to the quote he gave me, with no surprises or additional ask for money, and he started when he said he would, got the job done quick, and finished when he said he would - anyone who has worked with contractors before knows this is a rarity! Dave was respectful and treated the place with care, and I would recommend his work to others. We think the garage looks great! Dave is passionate about his work and did tend to over-explain some things to me, so some people might enjoy that more than others but it was great to hear how much he knew about the subject!

    Gerold Brothers Construction

Regrettably, we hired Gerold Brothers to build our home in the mid 1990's. Our previous home had a…read morevery squeaky floor, so we inquired as to how Gerold handled floor installation and were told that they used "the most squeak proof flooring system known at that time"...they used tongue and groove plywood, then both glued and screwed that plywood to the floor joists for a quiet floor. Shortly after moving in to our home, our floors began to squeak, a lot and in many places. Gerold sent a person on at least two occasions to "fix" the problem from underneath, accessing our exposed floor from the basement. These fixes would never last more than a few weeks. Now, after living with squeaky floors for 20 years, we are beginning to replace carpets and other flooring only to discover that Gerold never screwed the flooring down, they used nails instead of screws. The squeaks are all cause by nails popping and rubbing on the wood as one steps on the floor...squeak, squeak everywhere. When we discovered that Gerold had not used screws, we called them and asked them to honor what they told us they would do to begin with, which is use screws. Dave Gerold said that too much time had passed, they will not do anything. We had no idea they had substituted nails for screws and would never have accepted this solution had we known under the carpet and other flooring were nails and not screws. This is fundamentally dishonest and bait and switch. Please think hard before using this vendor. They misrepresent their product and workmanship. Dan Gerold made this comment very clearly and we quote him as saying "we use tongue and grove plywood, glued and screwed". The only thing "screwed" in reality is how we feel for believing them and not checking their work before they covered the floor up with carpet and vinyl, etc.

    Superior Windows & Doors

If you don't want to read the saga below, this is a quick summery. Called Superior Door as per the…read morereferral on Anderson's website. Following 2 visits and just under $600 in costs they had screwed up my door so badly that the door would not open and had to be kicked shut. Soon, the new weather stripping they had installed was tearing off. No response to my emails while the damage continued to worsen. Finally, several days later I got responses. One said simple fix, the other said 2 additional new hinges. As to my being upset at the lack of response over several days, he wrote "I'm busy, Okay?" In conclusion, the were presented a completely functioning and spent $600 to ruin it. I would caution you not to have them do any work on Anderson Atrium doors. - - - First, this is a review of Superior Windows & Doors Anderson Window authorized repair service, NOT their installation service. It is important because their installation reviews are pretty good. We purchase this house a little over 3 years ago. There is an Anderson swinging patio atrium door that leads out to our deck. The door is complicated with all 3 hinges adjustable to align the door in the frame. I had putzed with it and it was working fine, but because it was so complicated I wanted a professional to check it out and make certain it was aligned and operating operating properly. These doors cost about $3000 plus installation. I filled out an online request for service and was soon contacted by their repair guy. He informed me that the cost would be about $200 for an inspection and minor tune up. Sounded fine to me. The Superior Repair guy came and made some adjustments to the hinges and corrected the locking mechanism. We also noticed that the top hinge had a bulge. I asked what else we should do to assure that the door would be we preserved for the future. We set up an appointment to replace the bulging hinge and replace the weatherstripping. Quoted $400. A bit high, but okay considering the cost of the door. This second appointment was a complete disaster. Remember, the door is operating just fine before he arrived. Upon arrival the repair guy and his assistant replaced the defective hinge the replace the weatherstripping that is a single piece that goes around the entire door. When they got to the bottom of the door (the last portion to install) they seemed to be having a lot of trouble. Eventually they finished (about 45 minutes) and told me NOT to open the door for a half hour as they had glued in the last part of the weatherstripping. Okay. I waited longer - over an hour. When I went to open the door it was completely stuck down by where he said he had glued in the weatherstripping. It was really stuck. Yanked on it and it finally opened. Over the next 2 days it all got worse. It now required pounding the bottom of the door to close it. The door was basically unusable. Finally on the second day the weatherstripping began tearing loose from the bottom of the door. (see photo) All this time I was emailing Superior Door, a couple with photos of the worsening problem, to the repair guy - no response. I also called their office. Again, no response. Frustrating! Many days later I finally got a response (phone message) saying there was a "simple solution"; new weatherstripping and a hinge tweak. A couple days later I received an email saying he "was busy, Okay?" and wanted to replace the other 2 hinges and would I like an estimate. Wow! This had nothing to do with the hinges. He also said the door was working when he left. Of course he never showed me this as I was told not to use the door until a half hour after he left . . . at which point it did NOT work. I decide that I would try to repair the problems myself. Not fun for a guy in his 70's to crawl around the floor and adjust hinges for 4 hours, but it paid off. His weather stripping installation appeared to be mis trimmed. It is also possible he had glued it to the sill. Some good Tube videos and a bit of experience and I had the remaining (now damaged)weather stripping in place. a couple adjustments to the hinges and the door was back operating. I decided to check the hinge he had replaced; 2 of the 4 screws were stripped. To be fair, one screw on another hinge was also stripped. But, apparently $400 wasn't enough to do a proper install of the hinge and weatherstripping. So, the door is back operating. The new weather stripping had been damage by his poor installation, but seems good enough for now. I spent 4 hours straightening out this guys mess . . and I'm out $600 - for now Nice door but service on such a complicated mechanism needs to be stellar. If this is Anderson's prime service provider, I would tend to use another Door and Window brand.
