In from out of town, with a broken pair of expensive sunglasses, and Jeff took all the time necessary to fix my problem perfectly for no charge. Went here for several years and was very impressed with the service, professionalism and what seemed to be the standard of care. Horrified when I arrived for an appointment in April '21 to learn that staff isn't required to wear masks during the pandemic. There's a sign on the door saying patients have to "respect" the foolish choice not to wear one - and virtually nobody in the IMO inadequately ventilated office had one on. (Even if I asked staff to put one on people have been in there all day maskfree - some of the exam rooms are only about 10' x 10'.) I turned around and left. If they don't care about subjecting me and/or my family to potentially severe consequences from "long covid," what else about my health are they going to take a don't-care attitude toward? Incredibly disappointing from a health care provider I had grown to trust. I have a new appointment somewhere else which requires masks, sanitizing and distancing tomorrow. read more

The staff here are really friendly, especially the receptionist, who totally debunks the mean receptionist stereotype. They will go out of their way to order things they don't have, get them quickly and are really good about calling you immediately when they come in. The selection of frames here is also much more unusual than what you will find at most Lenscrafter type places, and the prices are a little cheaper than the trendy eye boutiques popping up around town. The office is in a weird little part of Maryland Way, right next to the pond, so the geese often wander across the road from the pond and into the parking lot. Very cute. read more

I have seen three different doctors within nine months. Seems like they have a turnover there. The other issue is that every appointment you wait at least 45 minutes to see a doctor. I went in for something as simple as dry eye needing eyedrops. They have skirted the issue and asked me to jump through hoops. I feel like they have managed to squeeze 3 appointments out of what should have been a one time deal.I'm just going to go find another eye doctor. Done with this. read more

I had appointment on 6/30/2020. Dr. Van Hoven is GREAT!!! He went over the pictures of my retina, eye pressure and took Time to make sure that with my new eye prescription--I would be able to read the smallest letters on the back of a Credit Card. Just wonderful, patient. HAS a personality and funny. Just a joy to visit. Michelle and Melinda in the EYEGlass department are helpful with helping you to pick out a pair of glasses and they take their time with you. I receive great care with my precious eyes. Started out fairly normal....got an eye exam. Doctor was nice. But after giving me the prescription, I told him thank you, and that I'd be ordering my glasses and lenses online. He told me that because my prescription was "complicated," I should NOT get the prescription done online. He advised me to get my glasses at Primary Eye Care. I thanked him, ordered my frames online (because they're cheaper and what I wanted), then brought those frames into PEC for the lenses to be put in. The woman taking care of me pressured me on every up sell opportunity imaginable. I felt very uncomfortable. Every upgrade was something that I "absolutely must have," or "I wouldn't get glasses without that." For all of the lens upgrades not covered by insurance, it was going to be $350 out of pocket. A couple of weeks later, I picked up my new glasses to find myself seeing double.....that's right....double. The "complicated" prescription was wrong. PEC changed it and reordered the right lenses. The doctor sensed that I was upset and called me that afternoon. I told him my story and he apologized for the high pressure sales job and getting the prescription wrong. A couple of weeks later, my new glasses were ready. The original high pressure sales woman gave me the glasses and seemed dismissive again....not very nice. After a couple of days, the new glasses were hurting my ears, so I took them to a DIFFERENT eye glasses place who adjusted the frames to my face as was NOT done at PEC. After all of that drama and KNOWING they had screwed up, PEC offered no discount or compensation....shockingly bad customer service. They may have sold one pair of lenses, but they lost a customer....and the 12 other potential customers to whom I've told this story. read more

Staff is nice. Good place to sit and listen to dirt about people.... front desk totally lacks privacy and the staff gossip about the patients as they check in/out or are on the phone. Always a wait, never run on time. The doctors are nice and do a good job. Technicians are very good. Biggest problem is they do not keep patients apprised of emergent situations that require longer than usual waits. You could sit in the exam room what feels like hours without anyone even bothering to check on you while a doctor attends to an urgent patient. Second problem is they always want a second appointment for subsequent studies, recheck of contacts, whatever. Nothing can be done in a single appointment. Very frustrating and obviously a way to increase income. read more

I had my first visit here for a standard eye examination today. The ladies at the front desk greeted me in a friendly manner. I was seen by Dr. Nick Engle, who was one of the nicest, most personable (while professional) doctors I've had all around. I personally enjoy when doctors don't make you feel like you're in an uptight, stuffy environment. Another lady was very helpful in assisting me with picking out glasses, which I can't wait to get! Really Like the Doctors I see at this office, only issue is with not having samples of contacts. Doctors need to know this before having patients try them out. My doctor wanted to try bi-focal contacts, but samples were an issue, this has been going on for weeks. I have been given samples that are not my prescription and find that unacceptable. The front desk staff act like that is not a big deal! It is to me, kind of important to be able to see, especially since we are trying to find the perfect fit. It is an extremely busy office, and need evaluate the contact sample problem. read more

Honestly, I was disappointed with my experiences here. This may be a lot g review, but I need to explain why I was disappointed and all around just not impressed. First off, the girls they have working the front counter, who all seemed to look alike, were never very friendly. They came off as more snooty than anything. Then on my first appointment I was fitted with a sub-par brand of contacts, they didn't fit my eyes well and kept moving around. Completely disrupting my day-to-day. My left eye has an astigmatism so the contact needs to sit just right on my eye. I went back six months later and he gave me another sub-par brand, one that I later found out we're known to cause the white bumps inside the eyelids, which of course they ended up doing. He also diagnosed my right with astigmatism. Had the same issues with the new brand. A few months later I went back again and saw another doctor. He said that my right eye did not have an astigmatism. Ok, one doctor says astigmatism in right eye, one says no, which is it?? He gave yet another brand and of course o had the same damn problems. I finally went to a completely different eye doctor and had a much better experience. Friendlier staff and the doctor actually discussed things with me. She told me that the contacts moving around might be caused by an allergy, (something neither Primary Eye Care doctor ever considered. Instead of trying determine the cause, they just tried different brands of contacts). The new doctor also fit me with a better fitting and better quality brand that has not moved around once. Also she said that I do have an astigmatism in my right eye, and my vision is much better, clear and sharp. Will NIT be going back to Primary Eye Care. read more

Dr. Van Hoven is excellent. However, I like to purchase frames at the same location as my physicians office. There is plenty of staff in this office - most of whom ignore you. On my most recent visit I was considering buying one or two pairs of glasses. I was told to wait for the sale. I instructed the staff member to hold one pair and that I may buy another which the store advertised but did not actually carry - very odd. Anyway, not only did they not get the extra pair, they sold the glasses I wanted right from under me. And then, the ever-polite doctor says that perhaps their office is not the right place for discerning shoppers. He actually said that. I have never heard a store complain that a client wants to pay too much. And, it's not like their designer friends are any cheaper than anywhere else. You get what you pay for here and from the retail side of things, you get crap. So disappointed. I expected more based upon the great doctor. However, the cast of thousands that support him are not worth a s???. read more
