The first doctor they had me see was super discriminatory and judgmental because I would ask questions about testing, processes, etc since this is my first child and I don't know the plan and timelines. I went through 4 weeks of intense depression and she suggested an abortion to "fix it" and then referred me to a mental health clinic without my consent and also weren't booking appointments. I was able to see my normal doctor at the next appointment and she was great. However I found everything transactional and lack communication for next steps. The last doctor I saw was super rude and threatened to call DCF on me because I told her I can't do bloodwork right now but I can come back to do it. Since then the office discharged me and had to keep care while I found a new provider. They were super rude after I started having complications with the pregnancy and told me it wasn't an emergency. Beware of this office. If you ask questions or nervous about the whole process, they will fire you and ignore any health related issues that come up with pregnancy.

I went here 10 years. Had my baby via c section with them, they counseled me in genetic testing and a bilateral mastectomy, they removed my ovaries. I trusted them. I had an appt and I was sent to the wrong office via text and was treated like a criminal like it was my fault. I showed the receptionist the text and her face went white. Nobody else later on the phone believed me. I was supposed to get my birth control refilled which is my hormone replacement therapy I was on for at least 6mo. A big step down in dosage from the estrogen cream I was on as it was, which I stopped using for ethical reasons. I heard how they get the hormones out of the animals. I left a message for the dr asking if they could write the script for the pill until I can get to another appt bc it's my hormone replacement therapy not birth control. No dr called back just snotty nurses. One said she was going to put me on a lower dose. Like as a nurse ratchet punishment. I said I have bipolar disorder you can't just change my hormone dose over the phone you're not even a dr. Rude replies.I was on this dose for at least 6mo, it's like doing something right for my fellow creatures by going on the synthetic hormones was a crime. I tried explaining all this and she was so mean. I said do you think I want to have to be on estrogen? I'd rather make my own! Do you know what it feels like to have your womanhood taken from you? They were that mean for me to go there. This was all so baffling to me, I couldn't believe it was real life. I called again no dr response another call back from a snotty nurse and they didn't identify as nurses either I thought I was talking to drs at first. They didn't want me complaining about them so they got to the messages first, I'm not stupid. I couldn't believe how insulted I could be from a place I trusted my health with for a decade. I called my medical dr right away and he he called the that Rx that day, puzzled as to why the OBGYN refused to refill the same dose I've been on. He has known me just as long so he didn't get it. So I just go to him. This place went down the hill, onto the ice and fell right through. Unbelievable. I'd put no stars if I could. I didn't deserve that kind of attitude or treatment. No patient does.

Their communication between departments is awful, had us run around Manchester hospital in severe pain because the ER and family birthing center kept sending us back and forth, literally made us walk. Then comes the maternity/paternity leave they will not fill out the forms for more than 6 weeks so you can not get the full 12 weeks allowed by CT law. Management will not call you back either when you ask to speak to them. If I could award zero stars I would. Worst experience with supposed professionals I've ever experienced.

I am, however, quite disappointed with the way things have unfolded with this practice. I had my annual in March, and advised the practice I lost my job and insurance at the end of the month. I was contacted in April by a scheduler to make an apt for a procedure. No one contacted me prior to tell me what the procedure meant or what it included, just that I was supposed to schedule it. Since I was now without insurance and on unemployment scheduling the apt was not possible. I informed them multiple times, and still received multiple phone calls and certified letters. Now that I am finally settled into a new job, new location, etc. I could focus on taking care of myself. I contacted the office to get more information, my call wasn't returned, and schedule the apt. and the next day received a letter that I was being dismissed from the practice. Honestly, that seems a bit manipulative to me. "You don't have insurance or the means to pay, but we're telling you need this and you're not abiding, so we're just going to drop you." I was disgusted to say the least. My feelings were actually crushed. I adore my Dr, and referred multiple women, but will not be returning.

We both quickly felt very comfortable with Nancy; she has a gentle yet professional manner with decades of experience (she attended the births of my nephew and niece over 25 years ago!). Appointments are thorough, as Nancy addresses all the expected physical concerns as well as diet, lifestyle, emotional health, etc. Nancy is exceedingly knowledgeable and takes her time in explaining everything and weighing up any options as they come up. Nancy and her support midwife did an amazing job assisting me during the labor and birth. As first time parents with a newborn, many questions came up which I texted Nancy about and always received prompt and thorough responses. Nancy proved herself to be the perfect midwife throughout my pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. I feel very privileged to have been able to experience birthing in the comfort of my own home while having the security of two skilled midwives by my side. Nancy is wholeheartedly recommended to all who prefer seeking natural approaches to health.

For anyone seeking a homebirth experience, you will not regret going with Nancy. What convinced me…read moreto hire her for my first homebirth was that her transfer rate is less than one in 10 mothers and the primary reason is maternal exhaustion. This convinced me that homebirth is natural and safe for low-risk mothers. I was thrilled that she spends a full hour with me and gets to know me and my family throughout the duration of the pregnancy. She manages to do this while still being extremely professional and making sure to check all the necessary biomarkers to watch for any potential risk that may come up. It is not the same as a certified nurse midwife as they tend to favor managed care and have slightly less flexibility than traditional midwives. Nancy is one of the very few CPM's in Connecticut. Of course when I got pregnant again after my first homebirth she took care of me for my second one! She helps toddlers transition into siblinghood which is a huge benefit! I cannot stress enough how awesome it is to not have to worry about unnecessary interventions such as a mother would have to experience in the hospital. I know it's extremely difficult to have an intervention free birth when in the hospital and being able to focus solely on labor and delivery as nature intended took so much pressure off of me and I was able to have the outcome we were looking for. You will be well taken care of going this route my only regret is that I did not use her for my first birth 12 years ago!

In May 2023, I checked into Planned Parenthood Southern New England (PPSNE) of Manchester, CT for a…read morestandard STI panel. The provider, Kristine Sterling, excused herself from the exam room and a young female phlebotomist entered to draw my blood. The first attempt at the draw was a total failure, such that no blood was even drawn from the needle stick. I ended up on the floor after experiencing a visceral shock and imminently losing consciousness. Never once in a 1,000 needlesticks has this ever happened to me. NP Sterling re-entered the room to see what was taking so long, and her reaction to seeing me on the floor was as if she had seen a ghost, and she excused herself w/o attending to me. I am 33 years old, and writing this review as of January 2025, I still have residual nerve damage in my left arm, which could be described as a sensory deficit from the bicep up into the hand and persistent tightness at the site of the injury coupled with wrist issues and rapid onset pain that limits the contractile potential of my bicep. I have not been able to get one doctor to render the opinion that I have an injury or that it could be caused by the blood draw. PPSNE never documented what happened, and when I tried to follow up with the provider, my messages were intercepted by another nurse. After a sequence of messages in which I made the accusation of negligence from a routine medical procedure--and even pleaded for help--- Dr. Ayiti-Carmel Maharaj-Best, MD intercepted my messages and called the police. She made the baseless claim that I was delusional and required immediate psychiatric evaluation, and according to my medical records, she lied to the police in regards to certain statements I made. The police visited me at my residence and I had no say in being transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital where I was committed to the psych ward. I was committed for 10 days, during which time no one contacted Planned Parenthood for clarification of the email exchange or to invetigate the false claims made by Dr. Ayiti-Carmel Maharaj-Best While hospitalized, no one offered medical services for my arm injury, and I was held hostage by the psychiatrist Dr. Harrison Strom to undergo CT scans of my brain. I was discharged after the psychiatric team was unable to corroborate the medical opinion of Dr. Best. After being discharged, I called PPSNE to request my medical records and they called the police AGAIN. This time, I received a call from Manchester PD that PPSNE had requested a protective order. In the following days, I received a notice of being terminated as a patient at all Planned Parenthood offices. Manchester PD had to mediate the electronic delivery of my medical records through MyChart. When I received a message with the attachment of my medical records, I responded by confirming whether or not the MyChart messages to and from the provider were supposed to be included in the records. In responding to a message that they had themselves sent me, PPSNE called the police again and now I had been served a warrant for my arrest. I talked myself out of the warrant after making a personal call to the chief of police, and shortly thereafter I discovered that PPSNE had revoked my access to My Chart and accordingly the messages between myself and the provider where ostensibly the provider NP Sterling had initially acknowledged the injury.

My partner was 100% on board and we spoke to a family midwife friend for advice. She recommended Birth and Beyond. I looked at their website and made an appointment. From my first meeting with Vicki I felt like I found what I was looking for. We communicated well, we understood each other and spoke the same language. Whenever I left my wellness visits I felt positive and cared for. I had confidence every step of the way that I was in good hands. Yes birthing is unpredictable so a few of my appointments had to be rescheduled because of births but it was no big deal. The back office personal was helpful and caring. They answered whatever billing questions or scheduling concerns I had. I found the group thorough and operated like a well-oiled machine. I liked the down to earth touch and the authentic styles of both Vicki and Cheri. They offer 3 mandatory meetings that both parents attend. These meetings are held with 5 or 6 other couples expecting babies and the meeting is chock full of Information about the process. It's a great forum to ask and receive answers to questions. Having a home birth requires quite a bit of prep. There are many things to prepare for. Although they give you a list and walk you through everything, it's your responsibility to prepare your home with the supplies for the birth. We highly recommend renting a birth tub it was wonderful and so helpful with pain management. We also benefited greatly from the placenta encapsulation service. The post birth pediatric care is excellent and the best part of having a home birth is you don't have to leave your house until you've rested at least 2 weeks! Birth and Beyond offers a wonderful service with caring, devoted midwives who have 20+ years of expertise to support whatever your home birth vision is.
