I wasn't anticipating a response until next week. But, nope! Ms Maureen promptly responded. She answered my questions and offered to assist in any way. THANK YOU, Maureen!! After we exchanged a couple emails, I felt, this is exactly what I am looking for, and scheduled an appointment with Ms. Sharon, the 'Ouidad' stylist. More HUGE THANK YOU's to Ms. Sharon, for listening to my concerns and for knowing exactly what I was looking for. Ms. Sharon is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and has an incredible skillset. My hair grows quickly. My last hair cut was shy of 4 years ago, and it was to my collar bone. Since then it grew down to my 'bootie'. Why did I wait so long? Well, to be honest, I had a hard time finding someone I was truly comfortable with that has the knowledge and skillset. Ms. Sharon was worth the wait. I looked in the mirror, and saw the 'ol me', and I couldn't help but get choked up with happy tears. THANK YOU, MS SHARON for being so wonderful. The Salon itself is very bright, cheerful and clean with lots of various services to choose from. Also, I am excited to be donating my hair to, 'Children with Hair Loss'. The issue I have is that I was charged twice as much for a simple trim (not even a shampoo) as my boyfriend was. We each asked for the same thing, a trim after letting our hair grow too long. My hair is not significantly longer than his. I did not ask for anything unusual or overly specific. My cut was not more complicated, and did not even take as long to complete, since he got some detailed shaping with clippers that I did not. But because I'm obviously female, I got charged SIGNIFICANTLY more. They do have a sign listing the wildly different prices of "men's cuts" vs "women's cuts"--I suppose it's my own fault for assuming that meant women asking for specialized services, for the genuinely fancier hairstyles many women do want and which I'm sure require more skill, time, effort, and equipment to accomplish. Look, most women probably DO want more than I asked for--I just don't see how that justifies charging us ALL double regardless of what we want. How is it even legal for salons to do this? I will not return to Planet Hair, and from now on I'll be asking about this ahead of time wherever I end up going. I'd rather not support businesses that add a surcharge for being female.
