This is a long delayed post, but reflecting on my ~10 years renting in Boston before I purchased a home, I had the best rental experiences through Preview Properties. The first time I rented through them, they gave my partner and I a little "welcome home" basket and were so helpful throughout the process--the rental was so perfect that we ended up staying for 3 years. When I went to rent out my condo, I turned to the team at Preview Properties. They did an amazing job by finding wonderful tenants and renting it at top dollar. As a new landlord, i was concerned about the process. They handled the entire application process including background checks, employment verification, and credit checks. AVOID this agency at all cost, total scam. I started my house construction project a few weeks ago and got informed by the workers that someone put multiple "for leasing" signs on my lawn. So I did a search and found Hong Giang from this agency was the listing agent. She put my SFH as a 1BR apt with fake description and photos. As the owner I have never listed my property for rental nor asked anyone to list it on my behalf. They have violated the law and a police report has been filed. read more

Nice people... not the usual obnoxious, will-rent-you-anything-that's-a-dump storefront realty place. Earl (who also works a few doors down at Chansky's) is great; tell him what you want, how much $, etc and he's your guy. He won't try to rent you something that just isn't what you want. read more

This is the most inconsistent property company in the Boston area. They will respond when they think they can make a dollar off of you but are extremely prejudiced and make it very apparent. I'm a white girl with no reason to feel discriminated against comparatively. but the way the agents freely discussed not returning certain cultures phone calls while I was standing right in front of them made me sick. We decided to pass on the apartment not because of anything to do with the landlord or the place... we actually loved it ... but for anyone to be that ignorant was not something we were willing to be a part of. They also were freely discussing not returning someone's money in a timely manner and laughing about it... All in all it was an eye opening experience and not in a good way. In a car accident that you need therapy from afterward but you just couldn't look away at the time type of way. If you're looking for a company with any type of integrity or business ethics, I'd go elsewhere. read more

My partner and I applied to our dream apartment through Preview Properties, but we were told another prospective renter had a better salary so we were beat out for the apartment after a week long process. We had to pay a non-refundable application fee of $25/tenant which came to $75 for our group. Come to find out, the apartment was relisted on the market for $425/month more than what it was listed for when we applied, and it's still on the market- it was not given to the other couple like they had told us. I thought the positive reviews meant this place was an anomaly in the Boston real estate scene and may actually provide a positive customer experience. That proved to be far from true. I saw an apartment listing on Craigslist, which I followed up with Shant about as instructed by the post. There was no pet policy listed, so I asked about it. Shant's response was: "Thanks for the email. This ll will likely not accept a pet. Dog?" The lack of effort to complete a full sentence in an email to a potential client should have been the indicator that he's unprofessional, but I explained that I do have a dog and would love the opportunity for the landlord to meet us both. He fired back: "I am sorry I just said the landlord will not accept a pet.. No pets.." as if I had read his email incorrectly. No - you just don't seem to speak English. ​You said the landlord "will likely not accept a pet" and then asked if I have a dog. Can you read?​ He said: "Yes, because there are many clients that will rent an apartment based on the fact that they COULD have a pet. That's why I asked if you have a dog, can you think?" I have a pet. I need a place that will allow a pet. What is so difficult to understand here? Why would I want a place that COULD allow a pet? I guess you're right, Shant, I'm the one who can't think. read more

I used this service as a broker firm when I moved to Boston and was lied to. The house they listed wasn't truly what the pictures showed on the listing and literally had missing window screens - walls that had old grease and food on them - mold in the refrigerator - and the neighborhood was unsafe. The broker also told me that the house had granite counter tops, annnddd they were plastic. All which they said were good. I was moving across country, so I wasn't able to physically inspect it. The moral of the story is that you do not use this company and/ or sign anything unless you physically inspect the property since they have given me reason to never trust them again. read more

I was on the market for an apartment for a full month until I finally stumbled upon an apartment listed by Preview Properties. Called up the number and it didn't go to voicemail, and Gabriel Caruso picked up- sign #1. Asked if I could see the apartment in 40 minutes, and got the affirmative - sign #2. Got to the apartment, and Gabriel was already there and waiting for me - sign #3. I asked a lot of questions and was mulling over whether or not my queen bed would fit in the place; Gabriel got a measuring app on his phone because neither of us had a tape on us - sign #5. Not only did he assure me that it will fit well, Gabriel even talked through the different layouts I could have in the place. It was/is a beautiful place and I would've been a fool not to take it, so I went to their office to sign the lease. The lease was buttoned up and I had my month-long search tied up in a matter of a couple of hours since I made that phone call - sign #how-many-more-do-you-need. Gabriel is an amazing agent, super helpful, extremely accommodating, and extra responsive. Cannot say enough good things about my experience finding and renting a place through Preview Properties, well-represented by Gabriel. Highly recommend their properties for their quality, and the business itself for their service. Trust me, I dealt with at least 30 Boston agents during my apartment hunt, and these guys are the crème de la crème. read more

I recently accepted a job in Boston and was told I needed to relocate from Wisconsin in 40 days. I have never had the experience of renting in a city before, therefore this experience was all new to me. That being said, I am forever grateful I found Cody during my frantic online search for apartments. Most realtors would straight up ignore me after I told them I had a child on the way. For some reason, the Boston rental market frowns upon new offspring unless you can afford to pay 5,000 per month in a "new building." Cody was diligent, responsive and upfront about this process with my best interests every step of the way. My family and I have just moved into our nice apartment in Newton and thought Cody deserved a formal "thank you" (tip of the cap). I highly recommend Preview Properties for any buying, renting or selling needs! read more

They have the best selection; they are the most organized, and our realtor Noel was a lot of fun and never put pressure on us or got impatient with our indecisive tendencies or any of our requests. We instantly made friends and it was very low stress. The best thing about working with Preview is that they can show you so many properties, and they help you keep track of all the pros and cons of each with a really well organized spread sheet. You can take notes and the spread sheet tells you which places have parking, laundry, heat/hot water included etc. Then when you move in they give you a great housewarming gift. I have probably worked with a dozen realtors and companies and I have never been so impressed with the service anywhere in Boston. Hats off to these guys! read more

When my boyfriend and I decided to move out on our own for the first time, we knew that we could use some help finding a place. We looked at a bunch of places on Craigslist, but we also decided to go with a realtor because, even though we've lived in Mass. our whole lives, we're not too familiar with Boston. We were also working on a very small budget (for Boston): 900-1200/month, so we needed helping getting some bang for our buck. If you're looking for an apartment, I'd definitely recommend Michael Langone. He was so patient, friendly, never pushy and made the experience comfortable and enjoyable. He never tried to twist our arms into raising our budget-- and we were never shown properties that weren't in our price range. He was responsive to what we wanted: though we were okay with a basement, we were really interested in being above ground, and he tried really hard to show us as many non-basements as he had-- and it really did seem like Preview had access to a lot of (overall nice) places. We spent several weeks looking with Preview, narrowly missing a few places, but Michael never gave up and always had another couple apartments up his sleeve. Michael was prompt with responding to calls and e-mails and was able to give us answers about potential apartments within minutes, no exaggeration. He helped us gather info for our renter's insurance after we'd signed the lease and walked us through anything we needed explained. The rest of the staff at the office seemed friendly and knowledgeable as well. At the end of the day, we ended up with way more space and a way better location than I could have imagined on our budget and a very nice landlord to boot, though there were a couple issues with the apartment that were caused by the previous tenants (no fault of Preview's). Next time we have to move, I can definitely see us calling Michael for help. I highly recommend working with Michael or, if the rest of the staff is of a similar caliber, anyone else from Preview Properties. read more

This was certainly not my favorite renting experience. I am going to guess based on everyones reviews that the company itself is good, it was just bad luck with the agent I had that was regrettable . For starters he was late for the showing. He wasn't even there for lease signing which because of being rescheduled twice forced my gf to cancel a weekend trip to New York. We had a "compatibility interview" with one with one of the landlords close friends which I didn't mind, but I am fairly sure is illegal. Mix that all with it taking over a month to actually get a signed copy of our lease, and it was a truly negative experience. To be fair I will say that after we expressed our dissatisfaction we did get a lengthy written apology from our agent explaining that a lot of the delay was from the landlord, and not from him. From then on he seemed more 'on his game' and provided updates and information frequently. I don't think this reflects the norm for this company, but I felt my experience needed to be shared. read more

Adam did send me an email, which I didn't expect and made me rethink my willingness to work with them again. It was clearly well thought out and carefully worded - the overall sentiment was actually a little kinder than the summary he left here. I received it the day before Thanksgiving, and was visiting family. I returned to Boston that Sunday, but had already disconnected my home internet in anticipation of my December 1 move. It's now December 4. I had every intention of updating this review favorably over the weekend, once I'd had a chance to unpack and get the internet hooked up at home. I was surprised and disappointed to find this comment on my review today. The original email didn't request a response and I didn't realize he was waiting for one. I'm sorry that it took me a week to update this review, because had I been able to update it tomorrow it would have read very differently. read more

I just moved to Cambridge from San Francisco, literally the most expensive and competitive housing market in the world, so I've been unpleasantly surprised by how miserable finding an apartment here has been. I have a baby, which is apparently means no one will rent to you, or even respond to your emails, so I was absolutely delighted to have Hong Giang respond so quickly to an inquiry on an apartment that met ALL of our criteria. She quickly worked with me to set up a time to view the apartment, so you can imagine my extreme frustration when she never showed up! And then my anger and confusion when after calling and emailing outside a locked building in the freezing cold while my baby cried for half an hour, I finally called the maintenance number posted outside the building only to find out that it's not even a residential building!!! WTF Hong!?!?! Why bother responding to me at all if you're just going to ghost me on a non-existant apartment??? "We are all set for Saturday at 11" is pretty clear! The search continues, but beware of Hong Giang and Preview Properties- apparently they are not a broker company, but some sort of strange practical joke or performance art crew that tries to trick people into renting apartments in office buildings... read more

I was moving to Allston with a large group of people and reached out to several of the real estate agencies in the area. Preview Properties was the only one that went to any effort for us. We worked with Bob David and he was professional, extremely helpful, and trustworthy. Pros: - They work for you. I sent Bob two or three listings and talked to him on the phone about what we were looking for and he sent back several more for us to look over and decide whether we wanted to see them. He didn't pressure us to make any decisions and gave us information to help us make the most informed decision possible. When we decided on a place we liked after visiting ~8 apartments, he negotiated with the landlord on our behalf to get permission for a pet. - They go out of their way. Bob not only helped us find new properties, but helped us get as much information as possible. We were concerned about utility costs in a three-story apartment and he went above and beyond by getting us information on the typical heating costs for that unit. - Professionalism. Bob responded to emails quickly, was always on time to scheduled meetings, and was extremely patient and was just as helpful and willing to spend time for us when our group size changed from five people to three, despite the corresponding effect on his fee. Cons: - There's a fee. :-/ But, by the time we signed our lease, I really felt like it was worth it. Bob saved us so much time and was able to give us such a variety of listings that I was not unhappy to write the fee check at the end. Of course you can try to negotiate with the landlord to split or have them pay the fee---we went for pet negotiation instead. Preview was by far my most positive broker experience and, for once, I felt like the broker was earning and more-than-earning their fee. I highly recommend Bob David. read more

Jeff Colantuoni went above and beyond to find my boyfriend and I the perfect apartment for us. I have moved (too) many times and therefore have experienced working with several agencies and realtors. I have never once thought any past realtors earned any of their fee- it was like robbery. Jeff 100% earned the fee (and probably more in our case). Jeff was always responsive- he would respond to emails, texts or phone calls right away (even late at night), he listened to what we wanted and showed us only places that were within our budget and had everything on out must-have list. I can't tell you how many times I have dealt with realtors trying to convince me to adjust my budget or go without something (such as laundry) I had as a requirement. Jeff did not do that at all- we liked all of the apartments he showed us and he ultimately found us our apartment which more than exceeds what we were looking for in a place (including a yard, two porches, free laundry in basement, dining room and sunroom). Since I've been through the real estate wringer a couple of times I can be rather...forward. Demanding even some might say. Jeff took it all in stride and his energy level matched that of mine (I wasn't being forced to track him down- he would contact me with listings he thought would be a good fit). He is also savvy which isn't a personality trait you see a lot in realtors. If we mentioned that we liked a place except for _______ he would do his best within reason to fill in the blank. For example one apartment we liked very much but didn't have a dishwasher he managed to convince the landlord to install a dishwasher at the same price. He managed to convince another landlord to switch move in dates by a month (to our advantage). We were impressed with his willingness to at least try to negotiate and it always worked out in our favor. I'm so glad I finally found a realtor I will actually seek out again when I move in the future and definitely recommend him. read more

Preview was a great experience. Jim at Preview's Brighton office took us out to approximately 15 three bedrooms. Initially, we only wanted to see a handful of options in our price point and neighborhood in Brighton and a couple in Allston, however, he informed us that the more properties we saw the better choices we would be able to make. We found a really nice 3 bed with parking in our budget! The deposits and paperwork were straight forward and he was helpful and responsive to any questions we had. It was a smooth experience considering some of unprofessional brokers we had met at other real estate offices prior to us calling Preview Properties. Would recommend them again. read more

My roommate and I started at another agency, but when they were only showing us small/expensive/crappy apartments, so my roommate called Preview after liking some of the stuff on their site. We worked with Christian, who was/is great. We spent one day looking at places, and he was great about figuring out what we did/didn't like about each place. He showed us stuff that was under/in/over our range, just in case we fell in love with something unexpected. After our first day, we had two places that we liked for different reasons. One, we only didn't like because of uneven bedrooms. Lo and behold, Christian called us back about an hour after we left, and told us that he found out that the apartment directly above that one was also open, for the same price, and the bedrooms were equal. We went in to look at it with him the next day, and fell in love. Being that he was also moving himself during the time that we were working with him, he was great. He always answered calls and emails really fast, and was willing to give us all the info he had (and get it if he didn't). He is still a great link between us and our landlord, should we need it. We also loved the great little welcoming basket they left us with lots of helpful things (nails, hammer, TP, plunger...) when we moved in. They are really rad. read more

I had a pleasant experience working with Matt from Preview Properties. I was referred to them by one of my friends, and the thing I was most pleased about was the professionalism with which he handled the job. I was looking to rent in a specific location, and given that and other economical limitations, I am pleased with the apartment I ended up with. Improvements: My apartment listing had claimed that there was laundry within the building when this was not the case. It was in a building adjacent to mine. It was partly my fault that I took that for granted and signed on before verification. I would have really liked it if my agent could have ensure the accuracy of the listing. Overall though, I think I would definitely recommend Matt and his agency to my friends. read more

My fiancee and I worked with Preview Properties in March when we flew up here for two days to figure out her grad school situation and ... where we were going to live. I had several phone calls back and forth with Adam, the owner of Preview Properties, previous to our visit and upon arriving in Boston, he showed us two properties that fit our needs. Cat friendly, top floor, etc. He was very knowledgeable about the places and incredibly friendly throughout the whole ordeal. We painfully and effortlessly signed a lease that afternoon and were able to take care of everything else afar (notarized paperwork, asked different questions, etc.). When we moved up here a month ago, we arranged with Adam to get the keys before they left for the day, something that was greatly appreciated - as we had two very grumpy, vocal cats with us the entire way up from Texas. They were fed up with hotel rooms. The handoff from apartment locator to management company was seamless. We will definitely be calling Adam whenever we decide to move next (Oh I hope it isn't for a long time...)! read more

Valerie was the most professional realtor I have ever dealt with. Most realtors come on very strong, make a lot of promises, take you to s?$t holes and then try to force you into making a decision on the spot... after they've done some dangerous and scary driving! Not Valerie she was easy to reach and very responsive over email- which is best for me during the work day- and was able to easily meet my schedule for apt viewings. She was organized, did her homework beforehand and offered honest opinions and feedback which was great considering I was on my own in the search. I would recommend contacting her. She won't waste your time showing you properties that don't match your needs in an effort to "hook you" and keep you coming back. read more

I am so excited about the news I just received, I have to write a review! The best availability is accountability and if your looking for a realtor who is available and willing to go above and beyond for you, I highly recommend Eric. After months of searching for an apartment in South Boston and dealing with sharky dishonest realtors, we were connected with Eric through his advertisement online. Eric was very prompt with his response and available to show us the apartment the very next day. While in the apartment, Eric was very knowledgeable about the area and honest about the market. With the competitiveness of South Boston, he advised us to offer a higher price which most people would feel questionable about. However, we trusted him and I'm glad we listened! I never once felt like Eric was only interested in making money, he was genuinely interested in helping us out (he even discounted his brokerage fee.) The landlord informed us there was upwards of 16 different applications on this particular apartment. Eric was able to negotiate on our behalf and get us this apartment over all other applications due to his hard work. Blake Hinds is by far the best realtor I have ever had. When I say that he came to the rescue, I quite literally mean it. We were having a lot of difficulty trying to find a place on our own so we decided to contact Blake at Preview Properties. He really listened to what we were looking for in a property and was able to show us a lot of great places despite the difficult move in timing and specific needs on our part! After meeting with a company yesterday that just did not meet my needs at all, I had almost lost hope. Until I met Noel from Preview Properties. He asked me specific questions about my needs and really paid close attention to everything I requested. He was patient and understanding as well as very laid back. Let me start by saying I specifically picked this company to work with because of the phenomenal reviews on Yelp. I happily contacted them and set up an appointment to look at an apartment I really liked. When I showed up at the place, the realtor first showed me a list of apartments in Allston (where I had specifically said I did not want to live) and that were way over my price range. Lo and behold, he realizes he double booked himself and was showing me the wrong apartments. He scrambles to find a list of apartments to show me, none of which were the one I had specifically come in to see. I ask him about the one I wanted to see. His response? "Oh, I tried to show this apartment this morning but the tenant is out of town and the landlord and I don't have keys". Seriously? You knew over 24 hours prior to the appointment that I was specifically coming in to see this apartment and you can't make arrangements, and then when you figured out hours before I came in that you couldn't see it you don't have enough decency to email me and let me know it won't be available? He also had another apartment he tried to show me which was currently infested with bed bugs. Disgusting. I have to say I'm honestly disappointed with Preview Properties. I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life. read more

In a place like Boston where rent is very high and finding the ideal place is very difficult, our realtor, Shant, found my friends and I a fantastic place for a very reasonable price. These guys are great. My roommate and I had a stellar experience dealing with Mike Della volpe. Courteous, sense of humor, and straight forward was how he operated and the process was smooth. After seeing several less than stellar places, and dealing with pretty trashy realtors ahem ahem **CITYGROUP** we finally saw something we liked listed with Preview. I had a pretty bad day making a last ditch effort for an apartment a week and a half before September 1. Then I called Alden, and he brightened it right up and relieved all my stress. I called him around 3:30 and by 4:15, he was showing me apartments. He showed me four apartments that were all exactly what I was looking for, no more and no less. He was really laid back and didn't pressure me at all, and it seemed like all the other people in the office were pretty similar. So three cheers for Preview Properties! read more

I normally never post anything on Yelp, but this was the most disappointing experience that I've ever had and I wanted to warn other people about this company... My roommate and I rented an apartment (with Mike Smith), and we wanted to tell you how disappointed we are in the services of Preview Properties. We were to send in checks three times over the span of three months (June, July, and August) to cover our last month's rent, broker fee, and security deposit. However, we were never informed that our respective checks for June (sent from different locations at different times) did not arrive at the Preview Properties office. My roommate had to email Julisa Romero (a coworker of Mike's who handles his paperworks) to ask whether she received our checks since we got no notice whatsoever. Even so, her response was very terse and careless. Paranoid, we contacted the landlord directly regarding our lost checks. During our conversation, we discovered that he himself had contacted the office that informed him that my check was actually found. Again, Julisa failed to keep us updated regarding our checks and guarantor's form that was sent with my check. Both Mike and Julisa did not inform or update us on OUR OWN CHECKS and misled us regarding our missing documents. Their lack of responsibility (which was also shown during our contract signing with our landlord where Mike sat at his desk and did not partake in the process) and prompt responsiveness toward this matter has been a great disappointment to my roommate, our landlord, and myself. Furthermore, my roommate had to constantly email Julisa to remind her to even respond to her, which should not happen. Mike even told us that he personally searched both offices but the administration at the Allston office confirmed that the envelopes sent by us did not arrive. As well as the fact that our landlord gives our broker information and he continuously fails to mention it to us. They always mention that they will look into a situation, but will never actually... We find it incredulous that, as a purported trustworthy business, their employees are mishandling large sums of clientele money or misplacing documentation containing sensitive information. Again, the fact that they kept trying to avoid the situation but miraculously located my check when our landlord contacted the company on our behalf is extremely offensive and infuriating. I even messaged the owner (Adam Mason) on linkedin and while he is accepting other connections, he refuses to adhere to the message I sent. This is the worst company and service ever. Please don't waste your time like we did.... read more
