I love bookstores and have been to many throughout the country. Tattered Corners is very average. Mostly paperbacks here with an alright selection. The pricing system is very strange. Tattered Corners sells their books for half of what the publishers listing is. This leads to some either great or awful deals. For books produced in the 70's and before you can get them for a couple bucks. But anything from the 90's onward is between 8 and 12 dollars, and for a used bookstore that is kind of pricey. I understand that this is a small business and there is only ever one person working. So to expect employee reviews placed throughout the story (great bookstores always have these) I guess is a little too much to ask. Also, there are no collections of literary journals or magazines, (something I love about independent bookstores) so that is also a bit of a bummer. But as I said, I'm just being picky and maybe even a bit pretentious. I'm glad Meadville has a bookstore and I hope Tattered Corners stays in business for a long time!

They offer a wide selections of books, both well-loved (2nd-hand) and new, from Mystery, Romance, History, to Children's books. It is such a relaxing and peaceful experience to browse around the store, looking for a treasure to be found (You can also join their book club). If you are looking for a gift or souvenir, there are also small gifts such as stationary items or treats from local places like Lake Erie Candy Co. All the way in the back is a coffee shop that sources coffee from North Edge Craft Coffee (Erie's own roasting company), and a bakery, offering foods such as bagels and cupcakes. So far, I have only tried Chai tea latte and Dirty chai, but will definitely try other items in the future. My favourite part here, other than delicious drinks and books, are that they offer to buy back the book that you recently purchased, and will give you store credit to be used for your next purchase, or you can also bring in any books you currently own, and sell it to them for store credit. Good prices. Lots of books (did I already say that?). Per the usual, I waddled out with arms bursting with my haul. I got a mix of Clearance fiction and some new non fiction. They have cute gift items as well, and the people are friendly. I did sell back a stack on a previous trip, and was not impressed with the buy back prices, but that's pretty much normal for consignment, and it did (temporarily) reduce the book burden in my house, which was the goal. Book burden was replaced during subsequent visit and has been returned to stasis.

This place is really great if you're looking for "their type"...which seemed to be Christian definitely, nationalist maybe...so if you're into that you'll love it. There were whole aisles devoted to Christian books. All in all, not diverse but they do have nice books if you are looking for what they carry.

This shop has two floors packed to the brim with about any kind of book imaginable. An entire children's section, foreign language books, old collectors books, and more. If you wanted to put together a bookshelf full of classics that actually look like classics in worn, brown leather binding you could definitely get your start here. There is every section you expect from a book store. An extensive collection of fiction starting at the front of the store, with classics and nonfiction in the back and upstairs. The children's section is also upstairs. There are a few places where you can sit and read. This being a primarily used book store, you can sell and trade too. Highest dollar is given for nonfiction, with hardbacks being at the top of that list. You can sell your books outright with no obligation to use the money as credit only. However, like with most trade-in places, you will typically get more value if you apply it in credit than if you take it in cash. Absolutely worth a visit, even if you're just looking to browse the day away in town.

They receive new books frequently, and carry an impressively wide array of books, especially for such a small store. Prices are great, owners are friendly, and it's even got a pretty generous loyalty program. The only downsides to me are just standard stuff. Sometimes you'll buy a book and sometimes the inside will be full of someone else's annotations. That's happened before, but it's just a risk of buying used rather than new. Same goes for potentially not having the specific book you're looking for. These are sort of universal problems for used book stores though, and are well worth it for all of the benefits. Absolutely worth your time, especially if you live nearby.
