I like Party City because I can usually find what I need, and more, to make special events happen…read more This week I needed green tables coverings and, sure enough, they had them. In fact, they had every color under the rainbow with matching supplies. Prices were great so I bought four. Unfortunately, the table clothes had some flaws (tears) and were pretty low quality, but I was able to make them work. The staff was friendly and helpful. When I asked where the table coverings were, the clerk took me back and showed me options. They had some incredible graduation party supplies with all the different school colors. Their parking lot is a bit of a mess but there is plenty of parking.

I called ahead to Party City to check if they filled balloons with helium, and they confirmed they…read moredid. But when I arrived, the service was surprisingly rude. I waited in line and asked about filling my own balloons, and the staff kept reminding me that there was a fee for helium--something I was already aware of and had no issue paying. I clarified this multiple times, but it still felt tense and uncomfortable. At one point, I looked for a different balloon number, but they didn't have it, so I stuck with what I had. In the end, I paid $40 to fill six balloons. To avoid more hassle, I ended up blowing up the rest of my balloons at home and used double-sided tape to get the look I wanted. Overall, I won't be coming back here. I stayed polite and composed, but I wanted to share this experience for others considering a visit.

I can picture those of you who know my reputation for writing full-length reviews just sort of…read moresitting there snickering and wondering to yourself "How the heck is he going to write a full-length review about a Dollar Tree?" Truthfully? I dunno. However, this Dollar Tree recently opened in my neighborhood just East of 56th & Emerson on Indy's Northeastside and I decided the temptation to get a "first review" and to also review a new neighborhood business was too great. So, here I am reviewing a Dollar Tree. In case you've never heard of a Dollar Tree, which sounds absurd, it's a discount store where everything is, indeed, a dollar (on very few items, actually less). That's it. That's the gimmick. Amidst a slew of similarly themed discount outlets, Dollar Tree has easily been the winner and grown into a nationwide behemoth that also, I believe, owns the Family Dollar stores (where everything is NOT a dollar). This Dollar Tree opened up in the Walgreen's that had been vacant for at least a couple years. Truthfully, I'd expected something like a Dollar Tree to take this spot and am surprised it took so long. It's in the same parking lot with Lincoln Square, an interesting dilemma in terms of parking and you bet your bottom dollar (How could I resist?) that Dollar Tree was quick to put up "Dollar Tree parking only" signs over a few spots. They have a 2-3 accessible spots, leftovers from Walgreen's and you can tell it with still crooked, worn signs and the handicapped symbols faded. Fortunately, the metallic signs are in place so for the most part it's still safe to park there. They have a single curb cut right at the front door, again a left over. The doors are automatic doors, though on my first visit I noticed that only one side actually worked (the right if you're headed in). The good news, I suppose, is that this location is far more wheelchair friendly than some Dollar Tree locations. Walgreen's had always been remarkably wheelchair friendly and Dollar Tree hasn't done much to change the interior design. Aisles are wide and they've still got quite a bit of open space - I suppose some of that could change once they've been here a while. The thing that cracks me up about Dollar Tree is that they take over spots like this one and they come in and do a paint job and some modest design changes and, almost without exception, the fresh paint job and design looks worse than it did before. While Walgreen's was certainly no design champ, Dollar Tree looks and feels like, well, a Dollar Tree. While the generally yellow walls isn't as unpleasant as some Dollar Tree locations, it still looks, well, cheap. The store is somewhat loosely organized as in there's 3 or so rows of food items, a toy area, an aisle for home goods, an aisle for personal care supplies and so on. They do have freezer items toward the back and basically they carry pretty much everything you'd expect a Dollar Tree to carry. The employees were friendly, though in a Dollar Tree sort of way. One woman seemed to be working the aisles and offering help, while a young man at the cash register seemed to be learning his way with the cash register but his friendliness made up for any speed deficits. I will confess that I cringed a little bit when Dollar Tree came in here. I'd hoped for something a little more high end given this particular corner's being a sort of bridge between lower-income and middle-class areas and a homicide at the Dollar General less than a block away a few months ago. However, in all honesty, a Dollar Tree sort of made sense here and with a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, CVS, and a Dollar General all within a couple of blocks along with a relatively new Mexican restaurant, Taco Bell, Subway and other existing restaurants this has at least become a busier corner that will hopefully discourage the bad guys a bit more. So, there you have it - a full-length review about Dollar Tree. You thought I couldn't do it, didn't you?

I've had to make several trips to this location lately, as I have had lots of crafty-type…read moresituations arise. First, my daughter needed supplies to decorate her graduation cap with. Then, I needed to make a poster board/collage of pictures for her graduation open house. I returned to get a helium tank for balloons for that same open house. Lastly, I purchased a bunch of supplies to start scrapbooking. On each visit, I have been able to find exactly what I needed and the staff is always perky and helpful. Unfortunately, the helium tank that I purchased failed me on the day of my event, so I called the store to inquire about returning the tank. Wendy, who I believe is a manager, listened to my issue and told me that they would take it back and provide me with a refund. I appreciated her not giving me a hassle; the return of a defective helium tank could be viewed as someone trying to get over, but she took my word for it and the return process was quick and easy. I used the money to purchase more scrapbooking supplies! I'm sure I'll be back soon.

It was the day of my daughter's graduation open house and the bulk of my decorating hinged on helium balloons. I had purchased a helium tank from Michael's for $38.99 and it wasn't working. I pulled up to Walmart in a frenzy and was able to purchase the same tank (same amount of helium) WITH string and balloons included for $28.88! The one from Michael's cost more and came with nothing....it didn't even work! Did I mention that Tony the Tiger was in the parking lot doing a public appearance?! Had I not been running around like a chicken with my head cut off an hour before our party, I would've taken a photo with him. Believe what he said about Walmart.....They're great!

From there you can shop for the items online and have them delivered by Walmart Spark Good Registry to a local Salvation Army. Keep in mind not all Walmarts have actual Angel Trees inside.
