    Glasgow Prestwick Airport

In saying that, I do like the fact that the airport is on my front door rather than the usual hike to Glasgow or beyond.

A couple of tourist tat shops and a cafe have now been complemented by an excellent little vintage football stall and a Peckham's deli and snack bar, while WH Smith's offers all the standard airport fare. Overall, it's clean, relatively laid back and friendly. Now of course, as the home to Ryanair flights, "Glasgow Prestwick" is actually nowhere near Glasgow, but during the day, getting to and from the city is no problem given the closeby proximity of Prestwick train station. Indeed, your flight ticket will bank you half price travel, 3.50 for a single. Should you arrive after 11pm, however, you will have to board a fairly grubby and over-priced bus which stops at both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Booking this in advance is strongly advised. Other than this, my only complaint is its failure to acknowledge the fact this is the only spot in the UK Elvis set foot in. I mean, I know they've put down a plaque, dedicated an entire restaurant to him, plastered the walls with Elvis memorabilia and erected a 10ft Elvis timeline which lists "Elvis visits Prestwick Airport" among the biggest achievements in his life, but is this really enough to commemorate the five minutes the King spent in Ayrshire as he changed flights? I think not.

Unfortunately when I arrived for my lesson on the day it was cancelled as the instructor had taken ill, however their staff made great efforts to come up with an alternative plan and within a week had offered me a light aircraft experience flight. I was happy to go on what was essentially a sightseeing flight over Loch Lomond in a Piper PA-28 Warrior plane as I'd never been in a light aircraft before so that was a new experience for me already! Rupert, the pilot, called me on the morning of my flight to confirm that weather conditions were fine for the flight to go ahead so I set out for the airport. Parking is available for several cars at the clubhouse, which is located on the north side of Glasgow Airport on the opposite side of the runway from the terminals. Even though I would not get to fly the plane, Rupert talked me through all the instruments, flight controls and the safety checklist. Then we were cleared to proceed to the main runway and take off! Waaaaahhh!! Is now a good time to admit that I'm a bit of a nervous flyer who breaks out in a cold sweat at the first bump of turbulence...? The small plane did bob around at first but it wasn't bad and we were soon in smoother air and I was busy checking out the view as we turned and headed over the Clyde towards Loch Lomond. We flew up and along the eastern side, passing Balmaha and the hilly terrain with Ben Lomond further ahead, before turning and crossing the loch with views over all the little islands. Getting to see the beauty of this scenery from the air was pretty special. Then all too soon it was time to loop back over the Clyde with views towards Helensburgh and Greenock and onwards to the airport. We circled over Houston for a few minutes, staying clear of an Emirates Boeing 777 coming in to land. Then it was our turn to approach the runway and with a smooth landing we were back on the ground and the world looked ordinary again. If you're a thrill seeker or plane geek, or looking for a gift for someone who is, I'd definitely recommend this! It was quite an adrenaline rush, even without taking the controls!

We used them from Glasgow (GLA) to get to Islay (ILY), an island in Scotland during our two-week long European trip, and from ILY to GLA. Along with flying Loganair for the first time, this was also my first time on a commercial propeller plane (model ATR 42), AND getting back to GLA from ILY ended up being the shortest flight I've ever been on in my life, which only lasted 20 minutes, beating out two of my separate 45 minute long flights to California. Your carry on size must be limited to a very small bag (i.e., purse), as there's not a whole lot of space underneath the seat in front of you. If the criteria are not met, you may have to check your bag in. Since both flights to and back were super short, no cabin service was provided, which was expected. The first flight went smoothly with no issues at all, but the second flight was a little wobbly, especially during takeoff and landing, which was a little nerve wracking for me. Despite the bumpy takeoff and landing on the second flight, I didn't have any problems with this airline at all. Not bad as a first timer.

Our flights were dead on time from take off to landing. Service was friendly and I really don't know how the flight attendant, on both trips, managed to serve tea, coffee or water with a biscuit in time. Loved the flight and will certainly use Loganair again.

Traveling with two young children can be a challenge, but the owner, Amar, made it incredibly easy. Communication was clear and prompt and he was always punctual, which gave us peace of mind, especially for catching our flight. The car was spotless, spacious, and comfortable, with properly fitted and clean car seats already in place--something that's hard to find. Most importantly, Amar was personable and so good with our young kids that they hugged him like family when he arrived to take us on our final trip to the airport. He went above and beyond to help us with bags and logistics and made a big effort to get me back my phone when I left it in the back of his car during the kid wrangling (thanks Amar!). Highly recommend this service to anyone traveling in Glasgow (also for Edinburgh Airport transfers), especially families. We'll absolutely book again next time we're in town!
