I visited this location based on a colleague saying it was her "go to" nail salon. I should have looked over the reviews on here, because it was very much a one time trip after my experience. I made reservations late in the day for a same day appointment for mani pedis and was able to get in. When I walked in, I was told to choose a color, then ushered into a room... next door? The layout was really confusing. I waited in the massage chair for about 15 minutes until someone came over and met me and started on my pedicure. I run as part of my regular workout, so my heels always need a little bit extra attention. When I asked her to use the heavy duty scrubber on my heels, she started using it ALL OVER my foot, really hard (OUCH), and didn't focus enough on the heels. I was assuming someone was going to do my manicure as my pedicure was being done, but no one ever came. Once the pedicure was done, I was taken back to the first room and sat down at one of the tables. At this point, I was already in there for over an hour. I chose a really light pink/almost white color, and the nail tech only put two coats on. Needless to say, it's been under a week, and my thumb nail shellac has already chipped. First time coming to the this spot near my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I needed to get a pedi done on my lunch break before the Mother's Day weekend rush. The employees were attentive. I had booked a mani/pedi through ClassPass here and got a confirmation for my appointment. When I arrived, they told me they no longer accept ClassPass and refused to honor my confirmed appointment. They also refused to go into their system to cancel the ClassPass appointments forcing me to pay twice! Everyone I spoke to refused to try to solve the problem and just kept saying "We don't accept ClassPass". They left me sitting in a pedicure chair with cold water for 20 minutes and refused to get started until a manager showed up and I said I'd pay with a card. All I wanted was for them to either honor the ClassPass appts or cancel them so I wasn't charged twice. I've never had a worse experience at a salon in my life. This business does not care about fixing their mistakes and they certainly don't care if their customers have a decent experience. GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE! This is the worst nail experience I've EVER had so it warranted me creating an account to post this review. After cutting my finger so bad that they couldn't do the nail the first time I went, I decided to give this place another try. I asked for gel nails and halfway through I realized it didn't seem like gel. Upon telling me it was regular polish the girl offered to redo them. Since I had to get back to work I asked if I could come in the next day to get them fixed and she confirmed that was ok. So I paid for my manicure and left, fully expecting to pay the price difference for the gel the next day. The following day, I took off work and even called ahead to get them fixed, but to my surprise they rang me up for a full set. When I questioned it the lady grabbed my card and charged it herself. The lady argued with me, yelling at me that I was in the wrong and didn't understand, all while I stayed kind and calm. Eventually I was told the manager would call me and discuss my refund. After 2 weeks of calling I finally got the manager on the phone who was also argumentative and not accommodating whatsoever. Long story short, I have never encountered such rude and incompetent staff, poor management, and sleezy business tactics. If you make a mistake, do not blame the customer and make them spend their time and money to fix it. I tried giving this place a chance as it's very close to my house. My nails look SO bad. Im really not sure my technician knew how to do dip nails. I went in with one nail completely broken, and had to ask her to put a tip on. Then she did not make it match the others. Before I finished I had to ask her to redo two of the nails because she had smudged them. I got home and they look even worse then I thought. They are crusty all around the edges. This is a great nail salon in the Sawyer Heights area next to the Target. I've been here a few times now and I'd totally recommend it. I thought it helped to make a reservation as I have tried both ways -- walk in and reservation. I was seated a little quicker with the reservation! The only con is that there's usually a wait (because it's busy and soo good). It also does take a while for everything to get done, so do not go if you are in a hurry! I got a full set with shellac one time for engagement pictures and it took almost 2 hours (not including my wait time of 15-25 minutes). However, the selection of colors and the ability of the nail artists (from what I've seen and experienced) is awesome and of quality work! They'll work with you to make you happy if you just talk to them about your expectations. I'm not fond of when my nails are super thick when I get dip or acrylic sometimes, but communicate that and it won't happen! I even saw a dad with his younger daughter getting nails for the first time and the artist worked with both the girl and the dad to compromise! I have had two experiences at this nail Salon and I have not been happy for either. The person who did my manicure was so rushed and it don't feel nice or relaxing. The outcome also was less than pleasing. I wanted clear polish. For some reason she used the filer to rough up my nails before she used the polish. She also didn't clean under my nails. The result is rough scratched up nails that don't look like anything happened to it. That happened both times. The unfair part is that the girl who did my pedicure, the second visit, was thorough and did a great job. But this second time I had an important engagement and what she did to my nails was just too bad to give them a good review. I tried to excuse her in my mind and aloud, by remarking that they must be tired since they are so busy with the holidays. The lady who did a terrible manicure responded that she wasn't tired at all- she likes when it is busy bc when it is slow she feels like falling asleep. So really, no excuse for her. read more

Every single month for the past 3 and a half years, I've been getting my acrylic nails refilled (don't judge me- it's my guilty pleasure). So when I moved to Houston a little over a year ago, I asked around to find out where a good place is in the Heights to get my nails done. Every single person recommended Prestigious, and after doing some Yelp research, it was clear that this salon has a monopoly on the Heights. So I went, got a great acrylic fill, finally settled on a nail tech who does a consistently good job, and continued to go for the past year since living in Houston. Unfortunately, with each appointment that passes, I am less and less happy with the service. I'm pretty sure the nail tech I routinely request hates me- she always looks disappointed to see me and refuses to make conversation during my hour long appointments. I even tried generously beefing up her tip, but still nothing. Last time I came in to get a nail fill, I asked to make a pedicure appointment for afterwards. The nail tech (Trish) agreed and said ok, but I never saw her put my name on the list. I asked again to make sure I had an appointment set for when my nails were done, and she nodded. After she finished my nails, I asked about getting a pedicure and she shook her head and said no, I'd have to wait with everybody else coming in. I paid for my nails and left immediately. Prestigious knows they have a monopoly in the area, and their actions show it. Going there feels like running through an assembly line. They want to get you in, get the work done, and get you out as fast as they can so they can take the next appointment. The nail techs don't care if you're getting your toes done for your best friend's wedding that weekend. They don't care if your gel manicure chipped after 2 days. They don't care about much of anything besides finishing up their work and running your credit card through their machine. And do you think that they'll ever care or even notice that I'm no longer getting my nails done there? NOPE! read more

OK, yelp has usually helped me, but I think prior reviews are overated. First, this place was hard to find, as 20th st has WEST (where all the stores are) and EAST (past the school). Parking is limited. English is broken. We were taken to the back for pedicures, and while we booked together, we were seated apart. The chairs are comfortable, human touch, the kind you find at Brookstone. The instruments were not all sterile, as in I think they re-used brushes and loofahs. I hate to be picky, but their towels were all discolored - probably from the mud. The mud gave me a rash. Massage was light, not that great. The lady who did my pedicure made a lot of mistakes and had to bring a brush with acetone to clean it up at the end. They did use a base coat, only 1 coat of color, and one clear coat on top. Was it worth $34, me thinks not. I didn't really feel that relaxed and I didn't think it was that clean. The pictures look better than the real deal. Bora Bora was soooo much better. I don't know about you, but I am accident prone to ruining my nails. Well, good new for those people like me.... They have a new nail polish that is gel based. And it is AMAZING! It is similar to when you go to the dentist and get an impression and they put that blue light in your mouth. The same technology is used in a nail salon now. They put on the polish then you place it under a blue light, 4 coats later you have completely dry nails without any dings. The new polish also last for weeks without chipping. It also make my nails feel stronger compared to the OPI nail polish. I am a big fan - it is truly amazing! read more

They seemed to do a competent, if a bit aggressive job on a pedicure. About a month or two after I started going here, I developed a nail fungus. Add to that, that it was only $38 and it's one of the best I've had. Hot towel massages, salt scrub, and jewelry cleaning for no extra charge. The service was spectacular, and the spa is amazingly clean, with 6 or 8 flat screens for your enjoyment. My only complaint is that they did not have Essie's Mademoiselle, which should be standard in all nail spas. Fortunately, I found a similar OPI color...but still. This place has a lock on the quickie manicure market in the Heights, and for good reason. The price is right and the service is efficient. The staff are friendly, though not effusively so. Personally, I like not having to make small talk when all I want to do is veg out, so it works for me. It's pretty much always packed, so call ahead to save yourself time. I usually call 30 minutes or so in advance and I haven't had a problem getting in. There are TONS of Shellac/Gelish/etc. colors, and they do a good job - my manicure was going strong for two weeks before I started compulsively peeling off the polish. My only qualm is that the machines you put your hands in to dry the gel manicures are absolutely filthy. I think I contracted finger cholera (or I would have, if that was a thing) from sliding my hands into those nasty little boxes. read more

I cheated on my regular nail place, and sincerely regret it. I got the shellac manicure, and am not happy. I previously had gel polish on my nails, so the manicurist used the file to loosen the gel. She was so rough that she filed my skin around the nail, causing me to bleed. When I pointed out what happened, she did not apologize but rather laughed about it. I've been clipped before on my cuticles, and it stings, but never so roughly handled during a manicure. Some of the nails are filed down to the quick, others aren't. I also have polish on my cuticles. The massage was also very rough, and I was concerned she was going to bruise me. I question the cleanliness of the salon. I didn't like seeing her flick other people's cuticle skin out of the cuticle trimmer and then use it right on me (especially since at that point I had an open cut.)
