SCAM. I was billed twice (~$5) for the monthly subscription and canceled by calling a customer service representative. This happened back in March 2020. Today I get a notification that I was charged $24.28, and I call to see why I was still being charged when I had canceled almost a year ago. The rep claimed I had never canceled, but I suspect that the last person I talked to just changed by monthly subscription to a yearly subscription and hoped I wouldn't notice the yearly charge. I highly recommend avoiding this company, and at the very least don't ever set up autopay. read more

Poor delivery service for over $800/year. I've been a subscriber for over 30 years. No paper today after two promises of re-delivery. Paper was often slung under car so as a senior citizen with severe back issues I could crawl under the cars. It took YEARS of complaints for this to get better, but it did. Now the only online option for missed delivery is E-subscription, not re-delivery, even if you are paying over $800/year for real delivery. I also noted that I am now PAYING for those big Ad editions on days like Thanksgiving. Yes you are paying extra, so you can get other companies advertisements. I could buy two iPad minis and get multi online subscription to OTHER news sources for the same price. Notsure why YELP thinks I'm from SF. I live in the Long Beach area. read more

This newspaper is absolutely terrible in their predatory behavior of seeking customers! A representative at a kiosk tricked my father, a senior citizen, into believing he is only getting 10 newspapers. He even asked my father for cash to get the paper started. The rep then got card information to get the newspaper delivery started but never explaining that this is for auto-payment setup for monthly subscription. It's been a battle to get this resolved and they insist that my father pay for newspapers he never ordered (all the papers that came after the 10) plus to pay for the initial 10 since the rep never credited the account with payment (most likely kept the money). In short, the rep took advantage of a senior trying to be kind and help a "struggling student", took his money, and set him up for a subscription without ever telling the senior this is what was happening. Then, the company doesn't want to resolve the issue but insist on more money! Absolute trash!! read more

THEY ARE A SCAM!!! There has to be something it could be done! I feel that they are taking advantage of people. I just found out that my mother who is a disable senior was subscribed to this news paper with out her knowing. I was setting her up for Zelle on her account when I realized she had been charged over $300 for this news Paper that she never received. On top of that she was charged over draft fees because she didn't even have sufficient money in the bank. When I questioned her about anyone approaching her offering this paper she stated to me no. The only thing she recalls is someone outside the grocery store giving her a $10 coupon and asking her if she wanted to continue receiving coupons. She gave them her information. They registered her with out letting her know and since she never received the paper she had no idea. We dispute it through her Bank and put stop payment on them but to my surprise the minute I did that. She received a call a week later from them asking her if she was receiving the paper. I took the phone away from her and told them that she has never received the paper and that she had never registered for it and to cancel and stop calling. All of the sudden she received 3 papers and a statement stating she owes $95 from December-January. I will be calling them tomorrow. But this is horrible how they are taking advantage of disable and senior people. I'm sure there is something we could do to make them accountable for what they are doing! This is fraud! This 18-year old guy comes to my door and tries to get me to subscribe to the Press Telegram so he can get a scholarship. After I decline several times he calls me an "asshole" as he walks away. After I try to give him some honest constructive comments on his sales methods, he insults me, insults where I live and threatens that he will "drop me" if he ever sees me around in the neighborhood. I end up calling the police on him - thank you Press Telegram for a nice evening. read more

SUBSCRIPTION SCAM!!!! Beware of young people knocking on your door to subscribe you to Press Telegram. They ask for a $9.00 subscription to help them with their scholarships. However, they want you to issue a VOIDED CHECK. You sign a subscription agreement that stipulates you can cancel any time. I did not receive my subscription for 2 months! I called, and it took 3 days for someone to pick up my call. On the last (successful) call, it took me 45 minutes wait time. Finally, the representative saw that my subscription had been delivered to the wrong address! I then asked to have my subscription cancelled. The representative confirmed that it had been cancelled. Still, my checking account was debited the next month! I only found out 2 months later, when I was being debited for a 3rd month!!! I had to call my bank to put a STOP PAYMENT on FUTURE transactions. I had to pay a $30 fee. I also had to file a dispute on the transactions - obviously fraudulent. NEVER NEVER SUBSCRIBE TO THIS NEWSPAPER !!! read more

What a shame . I've taken the the press telegram for the entire 40 years I've lived in Lakewood. I delivered it for 3 years as a kid. My parents took it all the years growing up in our home in Carson. The home delivery has become absolutely joke. If I was lucky enough to get a delivery, many times it was the LA times or the OC register. When I called the circulation department they would tell me they would someone come within 90 minutes but no one would ever show up. I pleaded with the phone rep I didn't want to quit and that money wasn't an issue. I just wanted the press telegram delivered. Finally, after months of terrible service, I gave up. I quit. There's nothing like bad service to destroy a company. What a shame. read more

Beware. I turned down a subscription from a door-to-door solicitation and yet Press Telegram decided to bill me. My mistake was ignoring the bills that came in since I figured they have not delivered a single daily anyway. Lo and behold they got the bill collectors on me and they said even if PT had not delivered my credit would be be ruined. Huh? Called a manager from PT and he said sorry, but he cannot do anything once it goes to the collector. I ended up paying $35+ interest for something I did not even receive!!!! I paid for a full year with a credit card. After some months, received a bill for $21.23. Called up billing, was told they would correct their error. Received another bill some months later, same scenario. Finally , the Press billing department sent us to collections. Called collections, explained problem. Newspaper? C'mon, it's a pamphlet. The only reason to buy the IPT is on Sunday when they put coupons and weekly ads in it. And their coupons are thin. The LA Times has more. I used to lament the slow decline of the IPT, but it's a victim of natural selection and its own political bias. This is what happens when you alienate half your readers. I got the paper from a fund raiser. I started receiving the paper with no problems but then 3 weeks ago it stopped. I call each week about 4 times and no paper. I've talked to a live person still no paper. They even said they would email the paper delivery manager to call me. No call and no paper. At this point I'm at my wits end. Nothing I do seems to do anything. I would not recommend this paper. They get their money and they just don't care if you get the paper or not. I'm going with the LA Times next time. read more

I have tried this newspaper many times. Dissatisfied each time. Subscribed ONLY because I thought it would help the young man in the ROP program who came to my door. Reading the paperwork more carefully the next day I found I was signed up FOR 3 MONTHS!. This began a process of trying to get the newspaper cancelled. Thus the following RANT I emailed yesterday. I tried cancelling my account and like many others have said, it didn't work and then they sent it to a debt collector. Not a quality paper anyway. The articles are not particularly interesting and they never report on late sporting events (meaning the sports that happen in the west coast). There was no balance due, I just assumed it was the renewal notice. Now I see they turned it over to a collection agency. For $24.30. What a lousy way to run a company. This Company is a FRAUD. It all started when I received a call from a robotic woman saying "Thank you for your subscription..." Confused as hell, I decided to check my credit card statement this month and low and behold, I saw a $10.00 charge on my account from this Company. I never authorized this charge, and was completely lost as to why the charge was on my account to begin with. I immediately called my bank to dispute the charge and had them issue me a new card. Afterwards, I did some research and came across their website. I logged on to "my account" and attempted to wipe my information from their system. To my surprise, I was enrolled into their "EZ Pay" program...Of course I was unable to fix anything because they do not allow you to make any changes to your account online...they give you a number (562) 499-1222 in which nobody answers. I then sent an email to subscriber services, and received an email from a Susie Kivett saying, "Please provide your phone number and address so we may better assist you. Thank you in advance." I emailed them back with my information and told them that "I have already contacted my bank and reported your transaction as fraudulent." and that "I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau and reporting your company." I'm pretty sure it was a generic email, or the people were scared shitless because I never received a response. ***Update 11/15*** After holding for nearly 20 minutes, I spoke with an Olivia Ceballos (626-544-0781), I told her that I wanted to cancel my services. She then asked me if I remembered a student coming to my door soliciting help for a scholarship, I told her NO and even if I did, I wouldn't have agreed to pay for a monthly service. I also told her that I reported the charge to my bank as a fraudulent transaction and will be contacting the BBB. Then I thanked her, and hung up in her face. ***Update 11/16*** I just received ANOTHER phone call from them saying "Thank You for your subscription" !!!!! WTF!?...Sent another email and demanded that they provided me with documentation stating that my subscription was cancelled. read more

Ordered the paper in may 2016 and was NEVER received at my house after many calls of telling me my refund is in the mail press telegram decided to give me a Starbucks card with the refund in it .from this day I NEVER got it . We just found out from one of our neighbors that they were paying Less than $200 for the same annual subscription. How can they get away this kind of treatment to their customers. read more

Yes I just got taken by this crafty salespitch as well. Nice young kid caught me off guard and he really seemed genuine, I knew the whole scholarship thing was a joke but I was thinking about getting the Sunday paper anyway for coupons, but what should have rung a giant warning bell was the request for a voided check, I didn't know exactly what that meant but what it means is you sign this other piece of paper which allows the Press Telegram to set you up in there "EZ Pay" system, i.e. they auto withdraw your subscription monthly from your checking account. Stupid me! Also, the kid gave me a postcard to send in regarding a $10 gift card for signing up. Read the fine print, and don't expect to get anything but essentially your subscription has to have been "paid and active 45 days from start and enrolled in EZ Pay in order to qualify for the gift card"...I guess I'll wait 60 days before I even send mine in, I guess my chances of receiving this gift card are almost nil. read more

Long story short I was approached by a rep to pay for service for one month and that I could cancel at anytime. Called 2 weeks later to cancel because I never received a electronic receipt or email and never got access to the account. That following month I was charged for another month so I called regarding the issue. The rep was kind enough to tell me a refund was processed to my account. The following two and a half weeks I called 3 times asking about the status of the refund because it was nowhere to be found. The third time the rep mentioned it may take 2 weeks and so I mentioned it was well over that. The fourth call I spoke to a floor manager and he mentioned I may never receive that refund because of a cancelation fee and that I was bound to a 60 day membership (the rep that sold me the membership said I can cancel anytime and never informed me of this) Its not about the money but rather the values of the company. The fact they were allowed on CSULB campus to sell memberships to COLLEGE STUDENTS with ill informed consent astonishes me. read more

They were doing a promotion for Sunday delivery at $10 dollars a month, so I figured I'd give it a try. Horrible decision. I was a customer from November 2014 up until I canceled last week. Every other week or so I wouldn't get the paper delivered. I'd call and only once did they have the paper re delivered. So basically I'm paying for nothing. I tried to cancel twice before with no answer. I was finally able to get a hold of someone recently and was so great full to cancel. Customer service is horrible to get a hold of. And delivery is beyond bad. I had requested it delivered to my door step or at least my front lawn. The Times it did arrive it was on the side walk between me and the neighbors house . Really!! I will definitely not recommend this company and they will never have me as a customer again ,even if it's free. Oh and by the way the paper is very skimpy. Not very many articles or coupons. Long Beach Press Telegram (LBPT) is engaged in telephone phishing. I don't live in CA, nor have I ever had dealings with them. They have called my mobile phone 5 times in the past two days, from the number 626.538.9371, telling me to call 877.469.6133 about my subscription. I've never had a LBPT subscription. My telephone number is already in the Federal donotcall database. So, I complained to the FTC about LBPT's sleazy and bothersome behavior. read more

Very upset. After almost 26 years with them I had to cancel subscription because I could no longer afford $325 a year. I cancelled 2 weeks before renewal and was told everything would be taken care of. More than a month later I get my credit card bill and they still charged it to my card even though paper had been stopped. Calling in I was told it would take 2-3 weeks before it was credited off and it wouldn't even be the full amount. I was told I would be better off going thru my credit card co and disputing it. We have been taking the PT for over 20 years. Several years ago we changed to Sunday only. About a year ago they called us and said "you are such good customers we are going to give you daily newspapers" OK, but many days it went unread and straight to the recycle bin. In February the PT called and said your credit card has expired and we would like to renew your subscription. The representative then wanted to charge for a full subscription. I said NO, my subscription is for Sunday only. She then set up Sunday only for $26 and told me a $20 gift card would also be coming with that. We have continued to get bills for daily subscriptions and now turned over to a collection agency for $56. I have provided proof of my credit card payment to them via email and have requested phone calls many times. read more
