I have been receiving daily (sometimes twice a day) marketing emails from the Press Enterprise for about a month now. I never signed up for these emails and do not have (and have never had) a subscription with this paper When I click on any of the articles, it takes me to a signup page for a subscription. I have unsubscribed countless times and even called the subscription department in an attempt to get off their lists, all to no avail. I really wanted an actual Sunday paper to enjoy in my PJ's and bath robe over breakfast with coffee. Ordered the Sunday home delivery option. Sunday comes around.... no paper. Notify them and get an email reply that they'll contact the carrier. Waited several hours and nothing so I emailed them to cancel. A short time later a lady I could hardly understand asked if I would reconsider if the took care of it..... I want to support journalism and I enjoy reading an actual newspaper with a cup of coffee in the morning rather than looking at news on my phone. I have subscribed to the Press Enterprise for over 25 years and this may be my last time. The prices have gotten ridiculous and the paper is mostly ads and other junk. Very little news and they also repeat articles. I pay up front every year for the full year and it's always an argument with them over the price. This year I paid for a year in April, with an end date of 4-10-25. I get a notice that my subscription ended 12-07-24. That's cutting me short 6 months! I called and could barely understand the customer service rep. She tells me that it was cut short six months because they started adding a surcharge to every day my paper is delivered! 18 cents a day additional. Outrageous. That was not the agreement in April. After much discussion and demanding a supervisor, she did correct my subscription to the original agreed date. Use caution if you decide to subscribe with them. They are constantly trying to nickel and dime their customers, and they wonder why newspaper subscriptions are dying. Also, be advised that if you sign up for a subscription, you can not cancel and get your prorated money back. They will not give a refund. One positive is I have had good carriers for several years now. read more

Email doesn't work, even though they emailed me back to clarify. Did no good. Then had to call them three more times. You'd think in this digital age all they'd have to do is press a few buttons. If I could give 0 stars I would for terrible delivery and customer service. My Mo In Law has never had a problem with PE delivery in over 20 years with her Sunday delivery only paper. Now, over the past few months, only an occasional Sunday delivery is received. We've emailed each time before 11:00 around 10 times, called during the week, finally talked to a live person who said they would escalate it and sent message to delivery. Guess what? Terrible communication and no paper again. Only 1 paper in the last month. She paid for a whole year so now they have her $ and customer service said there's no other way to complain! read more

I tried to subscribe. They took the money. Then, when I tried to log in, my password didn't work. Ok. Maybe I did make a mistake. Don't think so... but maybe. So, I use the "Forgot Password" feature. It says "Success" which is funny because... I didn't get the email. So I try again. And again. 8 times over 3 days... it just doesn't work. Ok. So... I send an email to their subscription service department email address. Then another. Then another. About... let's just say more than 10 over about 4 days. Keep in mind that the business hours for that department, posted on their website indicate they are open 7 days a week and on holidays. So... why does no one respond to the email? They took my money and just flaked. Who does this? What is Press Enterprise? Is it a real business? I mean, how does that work? I had been a customer of this paper for many years...My husband & I canceled when his job required him to travel. We then re- subscribed over a year ago. From day 1 we had the poorest service. I had to call daily to get our paper... It was like having a new job " babysitting this newspaper delivery service" ... we finally got fed up ( my husband usually would drive to the store & purchase a 2nd paper) I We ended up canceling, and were due a refund of $22 or close to that. They advised me it would take up to 2 billing cycles & a check would be mailed. I called today & a customer service rep said the refund was October 31, 2018 and to check my bank card... Nope-no credit from the Press Enterprise... She then said... Ohhh it says credit charge off?... Which she explained they don't refund your money & since I never complained... however, in her notes it says " customer canceling service due to calling daily for missed papers???? Well when I asked for a supervisor, they were all gone for the day "3pm?" This is the second week that I have not received a newspaper on Friday. Last weekend I did not get one for Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I was promised a paper for each day and it never showed. I work for the company that actually delivers the Press-Enterprise in Riverside County. The reason the newspapers are late, especially in the Corona area, is that newspaper carriers don't make enough money to pay for gas and other expenses that go along with delivering newspapers. The Distribution Center is located in Moreno Valley, so carriers who live in the Corona area have to drive to Moreno Valley, put their papers together, drive back to Corona, then deliver their papers. And if they live closer to Moreno Valley, but deliver in Corona, they have a 30+ minute drive home. They are usually paid per paper delivered. Depending upon the publication, they are paid between 5 and 15 cents per paper, but some are paid a flat rate for each route. They are also charged for plastic bags and complaints ($5/complaint). With gas prices near $4/gallon, and customers calling in at 6:01 a.m. to complain about a late paper (the carrier still gets fined, even if the paper is 1 minute late). Sundays are usually the day most carriers quit. Some routes go from 80 total papers Monday thru Wednesday to 200 total papers Thursday thru Saturday, then to over 900 papers on Sundays. To try to make more money, carriers take on extra routes, which is do-able during the week, but not on Sundays. I do routes without regular carriers (called "down routes"), and I deliver over 1,300 papers on Sundays. And what people don't understand is that on Sundays the carriers first have to insert all sections of each newspaper, then bag them, then deliver them. I arrive at the DC at 11 PM Saturday night (for Sunday), and work non-stop inserting and bagging my papers. I usually don't finish bagging until 4 AM, then drive 30 minutes to the Corona area to deliver my 1300+ papers. I usually finish around 11 AM, and get 4 or 5 complaints for late papers. And virtually every Sunday, the newspapers are delivered to us late, creating late papers for the subscriber's. Delivering newspapers is a terrible job. 7 nights a week/365 days a year. The mileage alone depreciates the value of your vehicle SIGNIFICANTLY. Oil changes, tires, brakes, shocks, struts, bearings, control arms, etc., come around much more often when you're driving over 100 miles per day. I'm not defending the late and missed deliveries, just explaining the process. read more

Horrible customer service!! We live in a senior citizen community. Do they think we don't look at our bills? We have automatic payments and three times now they have raised our bill $30 higher. When we called they said they sent us a notice which is a total lie. This last and final time after we never received a refund we called and the girl knew nothing about it. She connected us, after a 20 minute wait to John, a supervisor. We were very frustrated and told him to cancel the paper. He said that he couldn't do it, we would have to e-mail the finance department. Well, we will wait and see! Evidently customer service doesn't know what they're doing and neither do the supervisors. I've had a digital subscription, and it's an OK source of local news. In particular, I thought they did a really good job of COVID reporting early in the pandemic, and deserve credit for that. Now that I'm over out of the area, though, I have a warning: heavens help you when you want to cancel. They won't let you do it on line (even though it was an online subscription only), and the poor phone/chat agents are required to make repeated efforts to sell you a continuation, even though all you want to do is cancel. Not the agents' fault: but when I say, "I've moved away, please cancel" it is just wasting my time to read me two or three retention scripts! Just cancel. read more

I had been a subscriber for years but last year there were so many issues with delivery of my paper (not delivered, late, etc ) that I cancelled my service. I decided to give them another shot and it was worse this go round. For three days in a row no paper was delivered. I called and used automated system and still nothing. Called back again and talked to customer service. Each time I was told that a paper would be delivered that day. One rep acknowledged that they were having delivery issues with the company they hired but if you are aware of problems and 1-don't advise customers and 2-promise to correct it and don't, what am I supposed to think? The paper is the best we have out here in Murrieta for local news. Since the Californian went the way of the dinosaur , this is all we have. My issue is with our LAZY ASS delivery lady. After many attempts at calling the circulation dept to ask their driver to toss the paper up onto the driveway closer to the garage door instead of the sidewalk failed, I decided to try something. At Christmas time, she sends out a Christmas card with a self-addressed envelope, so, I gave her a $15 tip with a note asking her to please get it closer to the garage door. It seemed to work for awhile. She would pull up onto the driveway and toss the paper up towards the door, didn't even have to leave her car, just put it in reverse and go. Now she's back at her LAZY ASS way just driving by at slinging it out the window onto the sidewalk!! A MONKEY could do a better job!!! This being a grown woman, one would expect her to have a lot better work ethic!! But I think not. Now I know where today's lazy ass kids come from, from examples like her!!! I don't normally spend time writing reviews on something as mundane as a newspaper, but..... I like the content and coverage, editorials and so forth. Delivery has been very spotty over the years so switched to all digital a year or so ago. It's ok, a little odd at times, but generally, - ok! Got my subscription renewal notice today and went to the website to pay. Filled out all of the info, clicked "submit" and nothing happened. No error message - nothing! Clicked it again, - same result. Triple checked that all data fields were filled in, or that I missed an error message - everything looked good. But... no way I'm clicking again.... Called the subscriber services number. Screen said a wait of 1.1 minutes, but it took 5. After I explained to the clerk that I would have renewed but websites that don't work result in me discontinuing the product or service, he hung up on me. We all need to stand firm against this kind of edgy service that wastes our time when we want to spend money with an entity. Endless phone menus and long waits don't get it done. I would give a lower rating if possible. I've have been calling for over two months about a delivery issue. This is for my elderly parents who have asked that the paper be placed on their porch so that they can get their paper every morning, but it continually is being thrown in the driveway, where it is difficult for my parents to walk outside and get it. Worst customer service. I got suckered into the $1.00 deal to help out a school and they told me it would NOT be an automatic renewal, just a 1 year subscription. After 4 weeks, I didn't get the paper delivered and they told me they would attempt delivery again. 2 weeks later and still nothing. I finally just called to cancel and they said they could only give me a cancellation # as proof that I cancelled the paper. I requested a note and they mailed me a handwritten note. Now, 1 year later I get an invoice for automatic renewal??!!! I don't know why they didn't remove my name from their system. I'm not getting the paper delivered and I don't want it. If you do subscribe to Press Enterprises, which I would advise you to NOT DO, at least, DO NOT enroll in "EZ-Pay" Two months ago, They jacked my mom and dad's credit card charge up from about $36 to $56. I called immediately and was assured that the price would be restored to $36. I asked for a refund and they said they don't do refunds, but that they do add $20 worth of time to the subscription. In other words, move the billing date from the 11th of each month to the 24th to account for the increased price and charge the lower price going forward. Same net effect, right? This month, I look at mom and dad's statement and it's still charged for $56 and it's still charged on the 11th. I called customer service, told them to cancel the subscription, effective immediately and and to credit their card for the remaining time. I'm waiting to see whether that happens. I'm not confident that it will happen as was discussed. Will keep you posted. read more

NO customer service. I missed a paper delivery 3 days in row this week. Few days a week ago. When calling to report they tell you will be delivered in 69 minutes. I called 3 times yesterday. The person who takes the calls didn't even know who the CEO of company was, or the editors name. There was no one above him to call or contact. He said he'd put a message through. Said that last time too. No one has EVER called me back. If you want to stay in business, CUSTOMER SERVICE would be a way to start. I called the number listed in a previous paper for the editor. Left a message. Again today no paper. Can't call til 8am. Looking forward to seeing how long, if ever , it takes to get a paper. I have been a loyal customer of the Press Enterprise for over 20 years! In June of this year they decided to "improve" customer service. Well it was the beginning of the end. The last 5 days I have not received a newspaper in spite of calling every single day and being reassured the problem would be corrected. If they only want on-line people then they should not take the money from those of us who actually like the feel of having a newspaper in our hands to read! This year in February, I received a promotional offer for a year's Sunday subscription to the newspaper. The offer was to pay $40 first and the paper will send you a $20 Amazon gift certificate thus the total cost for the yearly subscription would be $20. I sent PE the check for $20 on February 24. The subscription started shortly, however, no $20 as of today. I called PE twice. Both times the email came from them saying they will send the complaint to the Promo Department. Who ever the delivery person is for Estancia Del Sol Senior living in Corona is horribly unprofessional, lazy and ignorant! My mother has used P.E. For over 30 years and recently moved to E.D.S. Two weeks ago. I canceled her service 9/3/19 to her new address and she has received her paper only twice in this time. So every freaking day!! I am calling for a simple fix to this problem with no change, sure the people on the phone always tell me "I guarantee your mother will get her paper tomorrow!" YEAH RIGHT! Your prices are way to high already & you can't even hire a person with a brain to deliver a paper. At E.D.S. All the delivery person has to do is drop off X amount of papers to their subscribers at the front desk and the employee at the front desk deliver the paper to the subscribers door. So tell me..... if the delivery person already knows they have X amount of papers to deliver to E.D.S and they have "under X amount of papers" they their dropping off that morning to the front desk, isn't that a clue your forgetting someone! Not to mention if you call and complain after 10:00am "the so called cut off time" they will not deliver your paper that day! So your just S.O.L.! 6 weeks ago I called PE to cancel my subscription. I had paid into November 2018. I asked for a refund, and was told I would receive one. Six week later and I still have not received the refund. I called them today, and was told they do not give refunds! The person was VERY RUDE...a real jerk. He finally said he would submit my request, and they would respond to me in a few weeks.
