The library staff here is always very friendly and knowledgeable. I don't think I've ever had a question the first person I've encountered at the desk couldn't answer. They have plenty of quiet rooms you can utilize for privacy when on video calls or to quarantine from distraction. The re are larger conference rooms for groups that tend to be very accessible with a prior reservation. If you're a guest patron or you forget your library card they often will provide a one-time access code for computer use. You can tell they do their best to accommodate. Some features I've never seen before such as the charging tower with small code secured lockers for phones/tablets. A seed library. They have a small book resale corner where I've found some gems for a couple bucks. Finally, the third floor is an intimate ultra quiet study space with several cubicles that are great for reading and studying- very peaceful. I honestly hesitate to post this review because I feel like Prescott Public Library is a best kept secret - but the establishment deserves to be recognized. read more

Awesome - been looking for a book over 6 months. They located it at 6 libraries nationwide and arranged to get it shipped here so I can read it!!! I have been a patron of PPL for many years and depend on it for the books and movies that I wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to read and view. And I will always be grateful to them for providing materials during Covid. Sadly, the quality of service has since really deteriorated. Most of the older, experienced folks who worked there for years have left. The replacements often do not know what they are doing, and instead of taking responsibility or apologizing, they are rude and blame the patron. There are still some really kind, helpful people there, and PPL still does a good job of acquiring new material. Unfortunately, some bad apples are spoiling the barrel. read more

Our library is the greatest. It's always clean and the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful, always. They will go out of their way to help you find what you want and assist you in obtaining it from the library system if need be. There are many special services available. I especially appreciate the catalog app which is informative, handy and easy to you. This library functioned beautifully during the Covid pandemic thanks to the staff and I consider it to be a great asset to our community. read more

First of all, I am a retired public reference librarian with 21 years of working in that role in various public libraries in California and AZ. I m giving this library 2 stars because first of all, i was looking to sit here for a long time to do necessary business things on my laptop while camping in this area. I came here to use their WiFi Sat May 28, 2022. I did't like the furniture here, because I am skinny with no bun, and they have hard wooden chairs to torment my bun. I had to sit at a table with electrical plug ins. Well the tables rocked from side'to-side, like swaying. that was annoying too, cos the table rocked sideways like rocking a baby, when you took notes and wrote things on paper. I am going tocall t hem and report it. maybe it is just tightening some bolts where the legs are attached. Another thing, is when I first walked in and asked where I could sit at a table and plug in my laptop . I asked if the WiFi was "OPEN". To ME, "OPEN" means that you just get on, you don't need a security key or password. Lady at the counter said yes. But when i got to the table and set up and found the Prescott Public Library WiFi, it required a security key. So i had to walk back to the counter, which is not a short distance, and ask the same lady. i told her "i thought you said it was open". She didn't answer, just pointed to a sign that said what the paswword was. Doesn't the word "open" mean to you, that you won't need a security key or password.?????? The views are nice from the windows, lotsa natural light. Another thing i like about this library, is thay haave a free scanner, that you could scan documents to poeple through email. i called my Scottsdale library, but their scanner is so old, you have t download your scanned document to a thumb drive, which they loan you, then take it to a public computer, in order to email it to yourself or someone else. I also appreciated that the library had the money to be open on Sunday, which when i was a librarian, Sunday was the busiest day of all the 7. . But, I am giving my experience on Sat. May 28, 2022, 2 stars, because the shortcomings of the furniture and being misunderstood about what "open WiFi" was was such a major part of my experience on this day. If I had small children and partook in what the library has to offer them, I might have given 5 stars. read more

I used to love this library and I've known some of the staff members or did know some of the staff members for many years, a few retired and others moved on.. I won't mention names here but there's a couple of ladies that work in this building who should not be in customer service whatsoever! When I phone they make it so that it's a complete inconvenience for what I'm asking and they try and give you some speech which makes you feel even more guilty about asking what you're asking for to begin with. Two of these female staff members are very very unprofessional and in my opinion should not be in customer service at all. It's s certainly changed the vibe of a place that I used to enjoy going to and sadly dislike immensely now. This is not a reflection on the other staff members there or the building itself but in my opinion the approach could be completely opposite and it's not that difficult to make someone feel welcomed on the phone opposed to treating you like a piece of garbage. read more

My son and I love this library. There are always plenty of computer to log on for activities and internet. The staff is professional and very friendly. Time and time again I've seen them take that extra minute or two to help out one of the patrons. There are tons of great programming for young and old alike. I like bringing my son here for their storytime and he loves going. We stop in there at least once or twice a week. The library is large, new, has a coffee kiosk, plenty of reading areas for you to stop in and enjoy a book Plenty of parking~ stop in to enjoy reading a book or spend some quality time with your little one. read more

Oh how I love libraries. This one especially! It is very large & spread out well, with an outstanding amount of resources available. It doesn't take long to get here from Yavapai College which is perfect when I have a couple hours between classes & want to study here. Upstairs there are tables set up so that you can have several students up with their laptops studying together, or you can spread out on one of them for yourself. There are large windows that give you a nice view of Goodwin Street & a few chairs in front of them to lounge in as well. The chairs are quite comfortable as well which is a plus. The library also offers free WiFi, or you can use some of their computers located upstairs, beyond the front desk on the right. There are various tables throughout the upstairs to settle in at as well as a cafe. I haven't been able to try the cafe yet because usually when I get there they are already closed (I believe they close at 4). Next to the cafe, there is a small used book store so if you want you can go in and shop around a bit. read more

This place is one of the best libraries (if you have kids) I have ever visited. Since moving to the Prescott Valley area, I have been an avid visitor of libraries. At this library the basement has an area in the back corner meant for toddlers. The area consists of a play kitchen, a big comfy chair for parents, shelves full of all kinds of toys. I think after a few month the Yavapai County Libraries rotates the toys or the Prescott Library rotates them. Since going here (for about a year and a half) they have rotated toy dinosaurs, Thomas the Tank engine trains and tracks, wooden doll houses, and wooden farms. On Tuesday's they have toddler time at 10am. It is usually done by a gentleman known as "Mr. Steve." He's great! He kind of follows a schedule; he starts with the ABCs, then reads a story. Next he starts to interact with the kids by asking them questions or singing a song. He doesn't get upset if there is talking or straight up calamity, he just goes with the flow. At least for Halloween and Easter, the library (Youth Services) goes out of their way to entertain the kids. The Tuesday before Halloween they let the kids "trick or treat" around the entire library, after toddler time. On the Tuesday before Easter, they give the kids hand made Easter baskets and let them search for eggs in a little grass area outside. They color code the eggs so it discourages the kids from being super greedy and keeping extra eggs. On the main floor, they have a little book store that is a great bargin. It comes from books donate by others. There is actually a decent selection of books. Parking is interesting, you can park in front of the basement, drive around to the back, or park on the street next to the Prescott Police Station. It is only a block from the courthouse (and block and a half from Whiskey Row) and it has beautiful views of the surrounding areas. Another thing that blows me away about this place is the entire Yavapai County Library system. It is amazing that they are interconnected with every library in the county to the point you can almost get any book your heart desires. read more

The only reason a star is missing is that I wish the city budget would allow for longer and later hours and for the un-library-like social atmosphere during peak times. But that also goes to show you how popular and well-utilized this community hub is. It can get noisy, especially when the middle school kids run amok daily after school has let out. There is a "vibrate only or quiet" cell phone policy, but it's not enforced. Positives: The librarians are plentiful and always helpful. Computers fill up a third of the main floor. Wi-fi is free and a library card is not required (no login of any kind) to access it from your own device. You can log on as a guest to use the library computers if you're from out of town. It has a coffee shop beside a large sale area for cheap used books and magazines. The sunny atrium has a door to an open air secluded patio with a garden, sculptures, and tables. Escape there as most of the kids (when they're also outside and not inside) stick to the lawn behind the patio walls. There used to be monthly foreign film nights with unique and hard to find selections. I'm not sure those are still happening. I've often gone to Embry Riddle's campus library to study after Prescott's closes. It's open to the public until midnight Sun-Thurs. and is quieter. The free wi-fi at Embry Riddle can be spotty and slow during peak times if you're not accessing it as a student from the local network. Both libraries have a marvelous view of the mountains out their picture windows. read more

I take my daughter to the weekly story time held at the downtown location and have found such a lovely community at this library. I've lived in a few smaller towns and I've never lived anywhere with such a terrific collection of books -- adult and children's -- as well as such fantastically nice staff. I took off a star because there are frequently bedraggled people there, so you witness things maybe you don't want to. But maybe they should have their star back because they let them be there and don't make a fuss, like a good public building should. I'm torn. I guess since I'm not bedraggled, I keeping the star. read more

This is a great place to go for kids, in fact they have a whole section of just kids books and a very helpful librarian that will personally help you find exactly what you are looking for. The paring is a bit lacking, but the friendly service more than makes up for it. read more
