Jerome-So whimsical and ghostly! So enchanting & magical. How lucky are those to visit and carry home magic memories. I love visiting and catching the vibes! I love Jerome more and more each time I visit

Cute town. We were on our way to Sedona and decided to stop in Jerome for lunch. We had a great lunch at the Haunted Hamburger. While going through Jerome, we saw scores of cute little shops. After lunch, we stopped at the Historical Society to tour their display. We also went through a couple of shops and ended up buying at one of them. One could spend hours walking around the shopping and art districts of Jerome.

Holy moly! Getting to Jerome is cray cray!! I mean you have to drive some carzzzy switchbacks all the way to the top of the mountain to get there with some heart stopping views of sheer cliffs as you drive on the 2 lane road. Once you get into town it's hard to find parking or turn your car around for that matter. The town was packed when we drove through so we did not stop. Personally I don't think I'd want to make the drive again, yeah man the drive is that scary. But for you adventures people...... go for it, I think it's worth a trip, just drive slow and be patient driving there and in town.

I love how mining town buildings are built and layered. I love Jerome, Bisbee, Auburn, etc. The hills, slopes, walking, and local shops make it beautiful. We loved the art galleries, Haunted Pizano, the views, the greenery, the Amore dress shop, and Made in Jerome Pottery shop.

Parking spaces where they give out tickets.

They give out $25 parking tickets where there is poor or no signage. They shouldn't ding people who visit their town. I wrote to the mayor who responded that the signage exceeds national standards. But it doesn't meet the courtesy of being visible when I'm searching for a parking space in an unfamiliar town. I checked the Town's budget and they budget $355,000 in parking revenue v. $54,000 for Fines and forfeitures. That doesn't sound like it's worth the labor to cruise around and issue tickets at $140/day average.

Great place to visit, we drove in from Prescott on a very windy road. It's a very small mountain mining town with wonderful views, rich history, hilly streets, outdoor artwork, and cute artsy shops. It supposedly is a haunted ghost town, which makes this place very touristy. And there is a haunted cave on the side of the highway we stopped at that was hard to get to. Parking can be limited here, there are small parking lots that you pay $5 for the day to park or you can try to find street parking if you don't mind walking far or uphill. They have a few haunted places to stay at if you're looking for a scary place to stay for the night. They also have ghost tours, a few wineries, restaurants, an awesome fudge shop, and saloon/bars. I did a ghost tour with my husband using a spirit box and found the outside art area to be very active with "spirits" communicating with us, which I thought that was exciting, but was most likely just a tourist trap. If you're looking for a grocery store or gas station here, you won't find any, you will have to drive into the next town. I highly recommend visiting Jerome, also known as "The Wickedest Town in the West."

Great half day trip. A nice mixture of hippie and Sedona vibe. The drive from either the Cottonwood or Prescott side is super pretty .

Review #1200 Jerome always makes for a fun day trip from the Valley. I have been coming up here for many years. For many, Jerome is known as an old mining town. But it is also known for its charm. It is artsy, it is a foodie destination and it has a rich history here in the state of Arizona. It is also haunted (more on that). Jerome is located on a hill called Cleopatra Hill that overlooks the Verde Valley between Prescott and Sedona. Back in its heyday, Jerome was known for copper mining until the 1950's. Today it is a tourist attraction for visitors, artists and photographers from all over the world. I first visited Jerome back in the 90's. My favorite place to eat is the Haunted Hamburger. The food is good and they always have Halloween decorations up. The Flatiron is my favorite place for coffee. You can't miss it because it is housed in a building that looks like NYC's Flatiron building. Jerome's First Saturday Art and Wine Walk takes place every first Saturday of the month and is a nice relaxing evening out. The Christmas Store is a fun place to visit because they sell Christmas items all year round. My favorite places to stay overnight are the Hotel Connor, the Surgeon's House Bed & Breakfast and the Grand Hotel (if you dare!). Jerome is also known as a ghost town. If you love Halloween, this is the place to be. The whole town dresses up for it. During the early days, Jerome was named the "Wickedest Town in the West". Saloons and brothels lined the streets. Gambling was also a big thing. It's believed that many people died in the Jerome Grand Hotel during its previous time as United Verde Hospital. Ghost sightings have been rumored for years at that hotel. Today, the city has fun with the whole haunted thing. Many of the businesses here have a haunted theme to them. There is a book about Jerome's haunted past and they offer ghost tours. One of my favorites things about Jerome is that it is close to many Arizona attractions and towns. Prescott, Sedona and Cottonwood are all nearby. Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot are a couple National Monuments in the area. You can also do some wine tasting at many of the wineries in Oak Creek, Cottonwood or Sedona. I have found the locals in the town of Jerome to be friendly. If you want to plan a fun affordable day away from the Valley, Jerome is a great destination.

This is our seat at the Haunted Hamburger.

Such an amazing little town tucked the mountains just east of Sedona. We went to miners ghost town, haunted hamburgers and the spirits room. It's definitely worth the trip here. All the locals businesses were friendly and welcoming. Epic views of the Verde Cannon.

This is a planned stop for today, Shopping. We haven't been here for a long time. This is really very tourist oriented. Parking is at a premium, free and paid. There is no gas station in this village. You have to drive to the next town, ten minutes. There are two public bathrooms. A nice one at the Fire Station. Very clean. Mostly shops , Art and saloon type bars.

One of the coolest little towns in the US. There's a lot of history and charm here. Originally a copper mining town, Jerome had a population of over 10,000 people in the 20s. Now, it's more like 400+. You won't find a Starbucks or a McDonald's here. I'm not even sure if there's a gas station in town. I don't recall seeing a grocery store either. It's a lovely place to get away from everything commercial and enjoy its small town magic. A few recommendations from personal experience (see separate reviews): -The Jerome Grand Hotel. Previously a hospital. Creepy and cool. -Audrey Headframe Park. Quick stop where you can stand over glass covering a 1,900 foot mine shaft. Loved it. -Nellie Bly Kaleidoscopes. Unique and friendly kaleidoscope shop. -Sliding Jail. Right in the middle of town. Very quick stop. -Art galleries. Walk around and explore. -Maynard James Keenan fans: he owns Puscifer the Store and Caduceus Cellars (next door to each other). While I really liked Caduceus Cellars, I wasn't a huge fan of the Puscifer store. Either way, both are a must for fans of MJK. There are other activities and restaurants that I didn't get to experience. I encourage you to do your own research. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Jerome if you get a chance.

Jerome is just not the kind of place you find on the East Coast. It's a cute little "ghost town" about 40 minutes from Sedona. I guess it was a big copper mining town 100 years ago; but the population dropped from over 50,000 to about 500. Now it seems to feed on tourism ; but it still has the quaint look & feel of a century ago. All the old buildings have been converted into cute shops and restaurants with a very "artsy" vibe. We visited on a Monday morning in July, and were afraid that not many stores would not be open. We were pleasantly surprised that there were many cute shops with everything from Christmas ornaments, to copper jewelry, to Indian crafts, to local artwork and t-shirts. There was even an amazing store that only sold kaleidoscopes! We found a few things and were really impressed by the work of local artists! Plus all the shop owners/workers were very friendly and I think they all had complimentary hand sanitizer just inside the doors. There were several cute eateries around and we stopped for lunch at Haunted Hamburger on a friend's recommendation. It seems to be an iconic restaurant and was very good. There were many other options too, and the smells of delicious food were wafting all across the town. There was at least one hotel in Jerome. I don't know if it warrants a multiple day stay....but it's worth a visit for a day and it's a definite change of pace from. Sedona or any other nearby big cities.

Great place to spend the day checking out all the local art. Additional info from Wiki: A mining town named Jerome was established on the side of Cleopatra Hill in 1883. It was named for Eugene Murray Jerome, a New York investor who owned the mineral rights and financed mining there. Eugene Jerome never visited his namesake town. Jerome was incorporated as a town on 8 March 1889. Local merchant and rancher William Munds was the first mayor. The town housed the workers in the nearby United Verde Mine, which was to produce over 1 billion dollars in copper, gold and silver over the next 70 years. Jerome became a notorious "wild west" town, a hotbed of prostitution, gambling, and vice. On 5 February 1903, the New York Sun proclaimed Jerome to be "the wickedest town in the West". In 1915 the population of Jerome was estimated at 2,500.

This past November while riding through Jerome I was stopped and harassed by the local police department for failure to follow a traffic control device. Guess what? There was no traffic control device to follow. So after making it clear I would be fighting the ticket, they switch charges to unsafe passing on the left. Wrong again, the road was 3 lanes wide and a one way. Needless to say the crooked judge could not let me get away without a shakedown, so she invented a new charge, noise violation under Town of Jerome Municipal Code. Noise violations are completely arbitrary and without any measure of sound, it's preposterous to make such a charge. Needless to say $127 lighter in the wallet I suggest you DON'T support tourist shakedowns. (This is not the first/only shakedown I know of, just the only one that happened to me - standard line, "It's just a municipal code and there will be no points on your licence, just mail the $200 in.")
