Having not done…read moreany math or standardized tests in over 8 years, Ryan managed to teach me math fundamentals until we were eventually practicing advanced functions. After working with Ryan, my GRE scores went up by over 8 points, which is a huge feat for someone with extreme test anxiety. Not only was Ryan an excellent communicator throughout the process, but I felt like he was fully on my team for making me improve my scores. Ryan created a completely tailored program built especially for me to tackle my weaknesses and give me the best study practices. We also managed to laugh and have some fun throughout a normally grueling process.. I could not recommend working with Ryan highly enough for any and al standardized test needs!

Going into the year, I had no idea whether to take the ACT or the SAT and he helped guide me in a path that lead me to the most success. I ended up primarily studying for the ACT and took the SAT a few times toward the end of the year, and he had great tricks and access to excellent study tools to help me and give me a lot of practice. The workbook that Marks Education has created is so helpful and full of all the information you need for the test. Incredibly well thought out! He also gave me actual ACT and SATs to give me practice so that when I walked into the test I knew what to expect. He also had awesome packets and review materials, as well as previous AP tests to help me prepare for the AP tests I took Ryan gave me confidence in an area that is hard to feel confident about. He always motivated me, and knew how to help me in areas that I was struggling in. Ryan was an amazing tutor, but he also went the extra mile to check in with me and keep up with the other things I had going on in my life. He was a part of my team junior year, and I am so thankful for all of his help.

I am the parent of eight children and have been using the services of Prep Matters for many, many…read moreyears. For all this time, I have been exceptionally pleased with the instruction and the results. I have, most recently utilized the services of Sunhee, an SAT tutor who has singlehandedly enabled my daughter to raise her SAT score by over 200 points. The experience of SAT test prep, which can be grueling, unpleasant and painful, has been actually enjoyable for my daughter. I think this has much to do with the relationship and rapport she has developed with Sunhee. From the first session to the last, he has been responsive, supportive, encouraging, and motivational. Sunhee is not the only tutor who has yielded exceptional results for my children. Both of my sons also used Prep Matters tutors, and I was equally and exceptionally pleased with the academic support and guidance they received. In all cases, my kids reached their target scores as a result of the instructional tips and strategies the tutors provided and were accepted into competitive colleges. I have also known Ned Johnson, the owner, for over two decades. He is an incredible person, dedicated to achieving success for all Prep Matter students. He has called me at home to discuss my kids' progress and has personally met with my kids when they have struggled academically or needed an extra boost of encouragement. He cares about each and every student who walks through his doors, remembering their names and stories long after they have graduated from high school and gone to college. Ned is an extraordinary man and the example he sets is on full display in the staff he employs. His tutors work hard to achieve results, embracing the same values inculcated by Ned. In many ways, Prep Matters feels like a family. This is a personal tutoring experience that adapts strategies specific to a child's needs. This daughter is my youngest and will close this chapter of my life. I will always be grateful to Ned and to Prep Matters for being there for me and my kids--for believing in them and working with them to create the best possible outcomes.

For quite a while, we've worked with math tutor Sharon Kim in the Bethesda office and absolutely LOVE her. She is really great about learning each kid's way of learning and then teaching effectively to that. Also, my son just really enjoys spending time with her and doing all the math they do. I'm super fond of her as well. We also worked very briefly with Moose in the Tenleytown office. He is a physics whiz and the brevity of our working relationship was only because my son had no teacher at school so needed guidance until one was hired. Moose was the perfect interim! I have recommended both him and Sharon many times. We have also worked with PM in the college counseling realm. Full disclosure- I have my own college counseling business, but my son and I didn't want to work together during his application process. So, we interviewed several companies and immediately chose to partner with PM's Maureen Delaney. She is wonderful, and my son loves working with her. Lastly, I'll note that Ned Johnson, founder and leader of PM, is a terrific human who is deeply committed to and knowledgeable about education, development, and adolescent. It's been a pleasure to get to know him, and I highly recommend the books he and Bill Stixrud have authored. The prices aren't low, but honestly, I feel great about paying such a caring, supportive group of people. Their help has been worth every penny!

I can't believe a dishonest business like this operates in our community. Do not give them a dime…read moreof your hard-earned money they are dishonest and know exactly what they are doing. I met the owner/manager Nancy seeking a MBA level tutor. She insisted I pay nearly $5000 to retain this tutor and despite my better judgement to hire someone hourly, I paid that amount. She assured me numerous times that if I disliked anything, had any issues she would issue a refund immediately. It was these false promises that swayed my judgement. After paying that amount, I was reaching out to them, they did not call me. After numerous calls and emails a tutor was still not assigned to me. When they finally did respond they said the tutor was only available once a week on Saturdays 9 am-11am. How would this work with upcoming assignments and finals? When I was finally assigned a tutor I was told after the first and only session he was headed abroad to China? I immediately requested a refund as that is their only MBA level tutor and they have no other alternatives. I have been fighting with them since May to get my money back. Nancy has lied to my face saying she processed a refund. My bank and I have not received a dollar. Please do not be fooled by the google reviews. I have to take them to court to get my money back.

We benefited from solid gains in SAT scores too. However, we are very disappointed in the current team of young women who co-manage the interface with parents and tutoring for our kids. Major communication shortfalls / mistakes over and over again, that have a big impact on us. I receive very infrequent feedback, compared to previous management, on the accurate progress of my child. And after thousands of dollars spent, her SAT text scores have not increased. Disaster! In contrast we saw solid results increases for our other kids. Aside from poor management and communication the young and inexperienced management team has no clue on how to structure students' learning plan and schedule. Other problems that could be easily addressed are: 1. tutoring classes being full and hence limiting our ability to increase tutoring around SAT testing season (late Feb through Early June) to offer tutoring on Fridays or Sunday during the these high testing periods. 2. C2's SAT mock tests for digital have been problematic. Perhaps this is due to it being transition year, but their questions are not reflective with what the kids will be tested on. This is both frustrating for kids and it keeps you in the dark on SAT scoring feedback. 3. Finally, we also bought more sessions hoping to get support on AP classes, but since there is not enough kids doing this those tutoring topics (like NSL, etc), sessions are combined with up to 3 additional kids studying something else. Learningwise this is completely ineffective for our daughter. To top it all off instead of getting regular reports on the number of hours used during the year we got a last minute warning that we only have 4 hours left, one months before the the SAT exam. The offered at 30% discount but only if you buy another huge bundle of hours for $7k. If we had to do it again we would have gone somewhere else. In the end, we will be stuck having paid $8-9k for negligible scores improvement.
