A gentleman was pointing at me and gesturing for me to come in to the testing room. I was given some medication. Then, there was an awkward silence. When, I asked if anyone was still there? And, they explained that they had to wait for the medication to take effect. One of my suggestions would be to let the patient, who is hooked up to giant equipment, to know that in advance. The test itself was pretty quick once it started. Then, the process of getting unhooked from all of the medical equipment and I was on my way. Thanks to my son, Mike, who was waiting for me. I returned a call this morning at 10:09 AM after being told my insurance had denied my claim. When I spoke with the front desk staff, she insisted--incorrectly--that my primary insurance (NALC) was not approved, even though NALC is simply the group name for federal employees and the insurance is administered through Cigna. I tried to explain this, but she repeatedly talked over me, became hostile, and refused to even read the policy numbers back to me. She eventually transferred me to a supervisor, who immediately confirmed what I had been saying all along: the Cigna policy starting with N is my primary, and the one starting with U is secondary. Instead of apologizing for the confusion or the rude behavior from the first representative, the supervisor told me I was "wrong" and suggested I "go somewhere else." So I did. No patient should be treated disrespectfully for trying to clarify their own insurance, especially when the staff is the one misunderstanding it. The lack of professionalism, the refusal to listen, and the dismissive attitude from both the staff member and supervisor were unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I recommend other patients be prepared for poor customer service and inaccurate insurance handling.

However, after my appointment, I stepped up to the receptionist's counter to ask about the results timeline, obtaining a CD, and any follow-up steps I might need. One of the receptionists was quite rude. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name, and it's possible she was having a difficult morning, but the interaction left a negative impression. Because of that experience, I would prefer not to return to the Bethesda location. It was disappointing, especially since first impressions matter, and it made me concerned about how patients are treated throughout the day.

Called countless times, told them exactly what they need to do as I work on the insurance side of several different clinics over the past 12 years. Either out of stubbornness or ignorance they refuse to make the correction (withdraw the 2 codes, resubmit for the bilateral code). Oh and they also said that I saw two providers, which I absolutely didn't. I reported this to the inspector general as suspected fraud.

I did have a bit of trouble finding the right person to speak to on the phone. I'll say that the two women women working at the receptionist desk during my visit were extremely nice. Setting an appointment was a breeze, and CRA provides an option to complete all of your paperwork online before your visit. Checking in was also a breeze. Although I arrived about 20 minutes before my check in time (just as a just in case since I was a 1st time patient), they let me start my MRI a bit early, which was great. Just like the women at reception, the MRI team were super nice too. The facilities were quite clean and looked maintained. However, I was a little concerned that the warm water in the restroom was white even after running the water for a couple of minutes. CRA/medical park has a decent number of free parking spaces, which is becoming more rare these days, so that's one less thing to worry about. Actually, the parking situation is why I arrived earlier than my check in time, because it seems impossible to find free parking in this area. Fortunately, you will not have that problem at CRA.

Five days later when I still hadn't heard from them, I called back and was told they didn't forget about me, they had a very long list of people to call back. They required me to give them a copious amount of information before scheduling the appointment. One of the first questions they asked was what insurance my husband would be using. After giving them a metric ton of information, scanning and emailing and faxing, as well as numerous phone calls we were told they could not help us because they did not take his insurance. Out of sheer desperation, I said fine, we will self pay, (knowing that I could not possibly afford that) and then I was told no you cannot self-pay because you have insurance. I truly have no words for that absolute inane customer service. I will give them one star because I have a great story to tell about ineptitude and the state of American healthcare.

Unfortunately, about a month later I was diagnosed with cancer when my symptoms got worse. I did not have any expectations that this was the same as a diagnostic CT and my cancer was not a solid tumor type so I was not surprised nothing was found on the Virtual Physical. However, when deciding on whether to spend such a large amount of money, people should know that this type of scan won't catch certain physical problems.

So it doesn't matter to those with appointments regardless if they are late they will still get in. Someone was waiting for 2 hours and they kept getting pushed by down by appointments people who are late and even those with appointments getting pushed down as well. Be prepared to wait for hours if you don't have an appointment and sadly even if you make an appointment they are Booked for making an appointment. Which is why I had to do walk in. This place needs to have more staff available. Having one person work can be stressful on them. It's extremely unfair to those who are walk-in and can't schedule because of being booked out and they wait hours.
