She initially thought she would have the "SMILE" procedure, however because of some eye issues she was not a candidate for that and had to choose PRK and was understandably very nervous about this and the recovery time. Staff was awesome, building was clean, observing social distancing and mask because of COVID. Now we move to the recovery phase but so far the first two phases have been great and highly recommended!

I went to Vold Vision after another facility suggested I look into Lasik or a lens replacement procedure. Like other reviewers, I waited for 30-40 minutes to be called to the back. The tech just marched me to an exam room where she asked me questions and then handed me a case and told me to remove my contacts. There was no sink in the room and she was irritated that I asked to wash my hands. After that, she hurried me from room to room to complete a series of tests without word one about their purpose. I waited in a second waiting room for another 40 minutes. I could hear someone running through a spiel about lens replacement surgery with another patient. I decided to leave because I was getting weak from low blood sugar (now 1.5 hours in), but the optometrist (I guess, no one actually told me that) escorted the other patient out and then took me to yet another room, where she slapped a little antibac gel on her palms and proceeded to exam my eyes with her bare hands. Even in non-Covid times, that would bother me. Lasik wasn't even mentioned. The optometrist (?) really seemed to be selling the lens replacement. She didn't mention Lasik. I asked if I'd be meeting the surgeon and was told no, not until the surgery. That was the final straw for me. Any decent surgeon should take the time to speak to his patients beforehand. On top of that, he is charging $8000 for an *optional* procedure that isn't covered by any insurance company -- it seems wise to invest five minutes in meeting your prospective patients. I respect the OD's education, but the MD is the only one allowed to perform the surgery and should be the one speaking to the patients he proposes to treat. That's standard across the medical profession outside of regular tests, like colonoscopies, etc. Finally, I was then taken to the business manager's office and again given info on lens replacement, this time with a payment plan prefilled with my info. When I asked about Lasik, both people said only that I'd still have to wear readers, as if that was all I needed to know. I couldn't leave fast enough at that point. What a waste of time and energy, and possibly money -- no one mentioned anything about the cost for today. I know this review is long, but so was the appointment.

The doctor was associated with Triad but had since retired and I was pretty sure tracking down the records would be a wild goose chase. I left my information with Tiffany and didn't really expect a call back. To my surprise, she proactively tracked the records down in Muskogee, coordinated the release form, and got the records mailed to me. Communication was fast, professional, and proactive. While I didn't get any service from Triad, the fact that they went to this effort for a non-customer was a welcome surprise. A+ for service. Thank you.

As soon as I walked up and said my name she said we don't take your insurance and proceeds to tell me the name. I said I don't have that insurance and never have. I then proceeded to tell her my insurance and that I called twice about it before driving two hours to this appointment. She is quiet then says sign the signature pad I need two signatures when I asked for what she huffed and I said what am I even signing do I get a copy ? She was very rude and said no then said yeah but it won't have your signature it'll be just an information paper you can read over. Then the manager, Madeline, comes over because I'm asking questions and every time I spoke she spoke over me about insurance and my question was at that time not about that but she wouldn't wait half a second to let me speak! she was even more rude. I can tell this is how they really are; they don't even try to hide the racism and extreme rudeness. I drove over two hours one way to see what I thought was a really great doctor I won't get the chance to find out. After making me wait over 30minutes (keep in mind I had the first appointment of the day) I asked for my money back and decided to leave. There is absolutely no way I'm giving my money to a company that's rude condescending and racist. PLEASE TAKE THIS AS A WARNING.... Your eyesight is extremely important and the people you choose to care for them should treat you just as important.. regardless of your skin color. I wish I could give zero stars but you have to post at least one... this star goes to the doctor I never got to meet at this appointment.

Dr Mengarelli diagnosed me with Macular Degeneration (AMD) in July…read more During the visit, he didn't show me the images of my eye nor the dursen that causes AMD. He did show me a chart. In discussions with other medical professionals about the lack of information provided during my office visit, I was urged to get a second opinion. I did go to another ophthalmologist for a second opinion, and it was confirmed, I had no signs of the disease. When I spoke to Theresa Pittman in the business office at McDonald, I told her I didn't feel I should have to pay the $140 owed after insurance, since I had to seek a second opinion to get a correct diagnosis. She became very defensive and told me that I had better listen to Dr Mengarelli, because he was a retina specialist and the other doctor I saw wasn't. She proceeded to read my chart over the phone to me. Theresa asked me how long it took for me to get an appointment with the second doctor, as if to indicate he wasn't busy nor a good doctor. Theresa told me if I didn't pay my bill, she will turn me over to collections and I replied I was fine with that because I didn't feel I should pay for a misdiagnosis. I have never in my life been turned over to collections and this will be a first. I've never even been late on a payment in my life but it's the principle of the matter. During our conversation Theresa told me Dr Mengarelli and the second doctor both work in the same eye surgery clinic. A soon as I got off the phone with Theresa, I called the second doctor's office and asked if he and Dr Mengarelli could confer and give me a consistent diagnosis since they worked together and knew each other. The two doctors did confer, and they are on the same page that I was misdiagnosed, and I DO NOT have Macular Degeneration, for which I am thankful. The second doctor's office was the one to relay this information to me I have received no communication from Dr Mengarelli concerning him misdiagnosing me. In a second phone call to Theresa, she did confirm that Dr Mengarelli did tell her that I did not have the disease but would still need to pay him. Two days ago I canceled my future appointments with Dr Mengarelli due to the misdiagnosis of a disease that causes blindness and there is no cure. Those days of thinking I was going to go blind were devastating. Had I not gotten a second opinion, I would have gone through life expecting to go blind. Today I got a certified letter in the mail from Theresa that they had dismissed me as a patient. I was hoping the packet would be from the doctor letting me know he made a mistake. However, I didn't intend on returning to him as a doctor so the dismissal is mute. The entire debacle has been handled unprofessionally with the diagnosis and the unprofessional response from the office employee. Theresa has denied she said the things she said over the phone, which doesn't surprise me at all due to how defensive she became and her abrasive nature. I hadn't planned on returning to a doctor that gives out wrong diagnosis but her letter of dismal was most likely Theresa's way of protecting herself from me having a future conversation with Dr Mengarelli and informing him of her actions and what she said about the other doctor and her reading my chart over the phone and telling me Dr Mengarelli was a retina specialist and the other doctor was not. (the other doctor is a retinal specialist) I caution any one who uses Dr Mengarelli to ensure he shows you your scans and explains the diagnosis in detail. I felt he had one hand on the door knob the entire time I was in his office. He was very hurried. When I told Theresa this, she said it was because he is busy. The other staff at McDonald have always been wonderful and I highly recommend Dr Coats and Bob in the optical department. My husband and I have spent over $3000 with them in the last year on glasses alone. I have always been treated with respect and care until this recent incident.

I specifically requested my optometrist to set up a referral for eye lens replacement. After a…read moreweek I called McDonald Eye Associares asking if they received the referral. The girl on the phone said they had and it was noted in my file they tried to call me to set up the appointment. I told her I had no missed calls from them and she pretty much insinuated I was a liar and instructed me to call back. I have yet to receive a call to schedule the appointment. This is a $7,000 - $9,000 surgery. My guess is they don't need my business. if this is how they run their office I can only imagine how they treat patients post-op. Now any trust I had in finding the best for someone dealing with my eyesight is null and void in regards to this business. They definitely need new office staff.

When I entered, they quickly took care of it, diagnosed what type it was, gave me the necessary medications, and got my eye patch. The gentlemen that helped me was extremely professional and I felt he knew exactly what he was doing. My parents have also utilized this place before and were happy at that time. Then there was my recent eye exam for contact lenses. I find out that they have recently separated the medical issues/nonroutine eye exams from the routine exams. Nurses of course seemed to have great bedside manner. Their receptionists though are another story. But two crucial things made me question things a little bit. I also am a loyal client at New England Eye Commonwealth in Boston, MA, but figured since this place handled my emergency with karatitis fairly well, their eye exams are the same, during my visit to Tulsa, OK, why not take of this here? Once my exam was done, it was time to try the new lenses. I look down...its the exact same lenses that I use to wear despite my numbers changing. I find out the doctor forgot to put the new numbers in my record, mind you my record was being typed up on the computer as we were doing the exam. Whatever, I can live with that mistakes happen. But I've NEVER in my 6+ years wearing lenses and getting my new lenses (usually with a number correction) had a dilation done, and then lenses put in right afterwards. Usually its 1. Find out new numbers. 2. Wear new lenses to confirm. 3. Take out lenses, then do dilation. And usually thats because your eyes are not in the best mode to be judging how the new lenses allow you to see. I later find out from my uncle the poor experience he had their just picking up a prescription for my mom's lenses. Apparently my mom called in for a prescription for contact lenses. She then asked if my uncle could pick it up, and they said yes. Uncle goes in, not only wasn't it ready but apparently he got a big attitude from the receptionist about their policy on sharing records, and almost didn't print it for him. AND when she did print it, it was a completely different person's. Well so much for enforcing your own privacy of records policy. I will say this, their wait times are short, so I would still recommend this place. Just be alert and don't give them your complete trust.

For that appointment I showed early at presumably building A and gave them all my information. I was then redirected to building B where I had to again give them all of my information and have my picture taken. I then waited for over one hour in the building B lobby and was never called back. At that point I gave up and walked back to building A to talk with the office manager. The office manager wait added another ten or so minutes. Finally I was able to politely talk to the office manager. She mentioned that the previous office manager left last year. More importantly she said that they have had to reduce appointments by one half due to starting a new computer system from scratch. Dr. Langley proved to be a skilled surgeon for my cataracts. His office computer system, currently, is not ready for prime time. My only regret was I made a wrong choice by letting him to inject the recovery medicine into the first eye which caused a black wavy curtain to appear in that eye for some time. I should have selected drops for after the surgeries and did so for my second eye.
