I am writing this review because my recent experience with Dr. Little was extremely disappointing…read moreand, ultimately, very painful. I had an appointment on August 3 for a double crown procedure. During the appointment, Dr. Little worked on one tooth and was about to leave the room when the technician reminded him that there was another tooth that also needed to be prepared. I found this unsettling because it made me question whether my treatment plan had been reviewed beforehand. As a patient, I would expect my dentist to know what work was scheduled before beginning treatment. After preparing the tooth, Dr. Little told me I was in good hands and left while the temporary was installed. He did not return to check the temporary or my bite. The following week, August 11, I had to return because the temporary was too high and my bite needed to be adjusted. I was informed at that appointment that a student had performed the work. This raised an important concern for me: shouldn't a supervising dentist check a student's work before the patient leaves? Dr. Little drilled down the temporary to adjust my bite and sent me home. Over the following weekend, my gums began bleeding profusely, so I returned on August 17. I was told that the technician had placed a single crown over two teeth, which had caused my gums to become smashed and irritated. I had not been informed that this was how the temporary had been placed or that it could cause this type of problem. The most difficult part of the experience occurred on August 17. I was not informed beforehand that my permanent crowns were going to be installed that day. Because of the pain and sensitivity I had already experienced, I specifically requested numbing. Although I was given anesthetic, Dr. Little began working before it had sufficient time to take effect. The pain was so severe that I had tears streaming down my face while he was working on my teeth. I was then told that I should have said something if I was in pain. I was shocked by this response. If a patient specifically requests numbing, I believe sufficient time should be allowed for it to work before treatment begins. The pain I experienced was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire life. Following the procedure, I continued to have significant pain and sensitivity. From August 17 through September 3, I relied on over-the-counter ibuprofen and acetaminophen to manage the pain. I continue to experience hot and cold sensitivity in both teeth that were treated. My concerns are not simply about experiencing discomfort after dental work. They are about the overall lack of communication, the problems with the temporary crown, the gum bleeding and irritation, the apparent lack of oversight of the student's work, and the extreme pain I experienced during the permanent crown placement. I understand that dental procedures can have unexpected complications and that patients can respond differently to treatment. However, I expected to be informed about my treatment, to know who was performing the work, to have the work properly checked, and to have my pain taken seriously. Because of this experience, I have decided not to return to Dr. Little. I will be finding another dentist in my area to take over my care and address the ongoing sensitivity. I am sharing my experience so other patients can make an informed decision about their dental care. I believe patients deserve to feel informed, heard, and comfortable asking questions about their treatment.
